  1. For those who don't want to spoil CDs, nor have DVD-writers, the only option is to install VMware (home page) and mount the ISO as a CD-drive within one of the virtual machines, and install LongHorn - and it will be just as fine as always.
  2. Oh goddamn crap! (no offense meant, I'm just amazed) I came across the quicklaunch shortcut finally, and guess where the MSI had created it? "E:\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\" The mystery of the QuickLaunch shortcut not showing up is solved, eh? ha ha ha....... Alanoll, you need some sleep buddy, don't work on this in a late night.
  3. Just use winimage to make a floppy-disk image of a win98 emergency boot-disk. Then use that as the boot-sector for a CD, and copy over your installed folder of PartitionMagic8 onto your CD. Can do all this in Nero, and then burn the CD.
  4. I use this registry tweak at GUIrunonce (because I restart once after that finishes). Copy it into your existing .reg file. ; Disable irritating Security Center notifications [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center] "AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000001 "UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
  5. Yes, you can do it like that. I also have a similar requirement, and I made a multi-boot CD using the guide here. Just remember that for your purpose, you won't need 2 different Install sources, just 2 BOOT folders, and a different winnt.sif in each. Hoping this helps.
  6. Yes, the method of doing it is the same as for a CD.
  7. Maybe visiting the Official MSFN Unattended guide here will help.
  8. Ladies and gentlemen, we hereby announce the "Guinea Diamond Rush", LOL
  9. When I installed my RAID drivers (for Promise 378 fasttrak-200 integrated), what you describe used to happen to me. I solved that problem by not installing the RAID drivers the next timeI did a format/re-install.
  10. It makes a log in the folder from where it is run. So try copying it away to "C:\temp" or some other path that you want, and running it with just a plain "/l" (without specifying path).
  11. ummmm..... 0.0002% ? Yup! that would be about the right odds.
  12. ok then, we are waiting excitedly with bated breath..... ( atleast I know that I am ) You have truly been maintaining huge lists of device driver categories, huh? (sound, LAN, etc.) Nice. All the best!
  13. Well, I delete that one too. I haven't come across a single app that wanted managedDX to run (managed DX will only really take-off with the release of longhorn) in all these years of running a zillion things of all sorts! You can delete that CAB if you're sure you won't run dxsetup.exe with the "/manageddx" switch - and that switch is something I haven't ever used, and everything has been fine and normal.
  14. Is it possible for you to get these switches to advertise themselves (like in windows Pre-SP hot-fixes) when you run "winamp.msi /?"
  15. If the drivers folder is inside the "Win98" folder (which contains .CABs) - then you need to keep it, otherwise you can delete it. It also has DRIVER1.cab all through DRIVER20.cab in the Win98 folder. Now, these are crucial files. Don't even dream of deleting these!
  16. That's true, but I do know that, and checked in that exact location (%Userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch), but the shortcut wasn't created. And I use a plain US English version of winXP with default regional settings (so no multi-language issues). Maybe the problem is that you need to wrap that path with a <""> (i mean, double-quotes)? I'm sure of the absence of user-error in this case. Maybe if you set the MSI to not write anything to registry if that property is left unspecified, the issue will get resolved? And for the positioning of the media library, it normally gets positioned properly if you run it after installing from the normal installer - but now the MSI doesn't do the same. So, maybe you haven't checked if you have any remnants of not-understood settings in "winamp.ini" (which is where window-positions are remembered) ?
  17. That's nice. Good for all of us, I think!Welcome to the forums (as a member). i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod i-Pod..........
  18. Maybe the below will help you (for more purposes than what you asked, as well): X-Setup The X-teq X-Setup is a tool where you can record the tweaks you made, and then save them to a .reg - and the tweak you desired is there as well - ain't it cool?
  19. True, and you've done a good job of it - congrats!@all: Here's where you can get Alanoll's MSI: cool!!
  20. Yes! Exactly. You got the concept right. Anything else? Oh, and welcome to the MSFN forums!
  21. Well, so I did it now, and here's what happened:Running the below from a command-line: Winamp_5.0.4.msi xfull=1 xquicklaunch=1 /QB did install all shortcuts and all components, but no quicklaunch shortcut! Instead, the desktop lnk (which is =1 by default, according to you) did get installed; and <StartMenu\Programs> links got installed properly. Winamp started in modern skin despite me not choosing to do so, and I also found that the media Library was positioned in front of winamp_main_window, therefore obscuring the view of it (at 1024x768, did not test at other resolutions). Before I tested it (as you wanted), I uninstalled winamp, deleted all related registry entries and re-booted. So all settings would be at the defaults you made it with. All of this was on a clean system (not nLite'd, SP2 build2162). Also, I had registered the Pro version (using a .reg) just before using your .MSI, so I did not specify those options - but it surprised me to see that the registration info was wiped out after running the install. Hoping this helps...
  22. If you locate your pagefile onto any other partition, you actually lose performance. Set your pagefile to be on a different *DRIVE* (i.e., HDD) and it is beneficial. Now, about deleting the pagefile.sys on drive C: 1. Windows necessarily wants a minimum of 2 MB swap-space (viz. page-file) on the system drive. 2. That is in order to be able to make a memory dump (when it crashes). 3. But you can still dis-regard the above directive & altogether eliminate a pagefile from C: drive.
  23. Yes, possible - and it works perfectly! Go here and have a look: using JS for UI actions
  24. Exactly what are you trying to do? Make a backup copy of your original? Slip-streaming a ServicePack and then re-making a bootable installation source? Putting w2kserver as a mult-boot option alongside other OSes? If you don't give details of what you want, you'll only get vague/guesses/approximate responses - and those who would know exactly what to do will not reply simply because there are too many possible answers, and it would be a waste of time to list out 10,000 possibilities.
  25. Are the switches (for selecting individual components) case-sensitive? @Alanoll- I carried out a makecab on your initial (5.07 MB) release of wa5.04, and was amazed to see that it compressed down to 4.47 MB! (which is close to the size of the original installer). Using that, and maybe some optimizations, you might be able to bring down installer size to below 4 MB............ (hopefully)
