  1. for now - "Rise of Nations : Thrones and Patriots" waiting in the long-term - "Age of Empires 4 - whatever it is called"
  2. Welcome to MSFN forums! Yup, hopefully this site will provide the information that you're looking for.
  3. Either you can try those methods outlined above (for full automation), or make a multi-boot CD which you will manually choose what PC's configuration you want to install.
  4. If my memory serves me right, it seems like only a few Pioneer and Plextor drives support that technology. It sure would be nice if the market base for that standard widened. BTW, would a standard CD-ROM drive (read-only) be able to read from a "HD-Burn"ed CD?
  5. There actually is an interesting prospect with post-SP2 hotfixes - you'll be able to slip-stream even the hotfixes into your windows CD. I'm all excited and waiting for it! @edmoncu- Well, those scenarios you describe are a bit complex to explain. You'll have to carry out a trial-and-error method yourself (to succeed). Or, you can stick to the tried-and-tested methods, and save yourself some pain.
  6. mmmm..... just the normal whatever-you-do, I would think? BTW, it might be quicker for you if flyakite sent you his initial drafts of the content, so you would be ready with the translations pretty soon! Howzzat?
  7. If you have a Windows Server 2003 Standard/Enterprise license, and need to stream Windows Media - check out its Streaming Media capabilities.
  8. Just try a google for more detailed guides. Keep playing around with it, and you'll hit the sweet-spot of performance/stability.
  9. Yes.And it works just fine. SuSe is commercially the most successful Linux distro maker (after RedHat), and has a very good reason for it. Go ahead, it is good to use. Just remember one thing - don't expect things to happen in the same way as in the windows world - and you'll be saved lots of disappointments/frustrations. The way of doing things is different in Linux, and if you remember your college days with Unix well enough, you're up and running in no time! The UI is sufficiently easy to use. On the whole, speed of operation is quicker than windows on the same system Spec. It is suitably crash-proof (rock-solid, actually, if you get used to it) for work-a-day usage in offices. Lots of apps are available, whose counter-parts you'd use for parallel purposes on windows (XMMS for winamp, GIMP for photoshop). Configuration (tools/extent-of-reach) is one area where SuSE blows away competing distributions. It is compatible with TCP/IP based MS-LANs, support for Active Directory (ADS) domains should be considered experimental. It has OpenOffice/StarOffice suite (bundled), which can work with MS Office file-formats (all of them) - just remember that OpenOffice's native format is something else, so if you want to save to MS-Office compatible format by default, you'll have to go into its options and say so (instead of complaining about any office suite's native-format-by-default behaviour). Hmmmm..... This is all you asked for (I don't have the ability to carry on-and-on about abstract philosophy about open source). Any other questions, and I'd be glad to help out.
  10. Hello there! Welcome to MSFN forums, I hope you'll have an enjoyable time here while learning about things.
  11. not really, i got my 98 machine to work really easily I believe gamehead is referring to the fact that win98 wants a reboot for any change you make. @ArmyDoc- Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the NetBEUI protocol?
  12. That's true. Also, check that the CD-writer on which you do this is 89-minute (a standard for the capability to write 800 MB onto media) compatible.
  13. Have a nice time.I'd like to let you know, that your multi-boot CD guide here has been mighty helpful to me (and probably lots more people). It seems to have become the point of reference in its niche.
  14. What I'd like to know, is if the poor miner was compensated anything at all by the government. :-|
  15. hmmm....... Your blatant self-promotion (that too, with your first-post) wouldn't have been nearly so bad if the link was active - your site seems to be down, check it up.
  16. And also, you'd be well-prepared if you spent some time being around in the forums - and familiarising yourself with MSFN.
  17. Here's an idea: Would it be possible to pre-mod your XP install sources with the files from this distribution? That would be a great thing to do.
  18. No, the current release will not be compatible with SP2 as the FAQ on the home-page states: It replaces the relevant system files (not only resources), in order to get the desired effect. You will run it without troubles *ONLY* with SP1. If you use the gold-release (SP0/RTM) of XP, you will not be able to run it properly. As for more details, questions, please check the home-page instead of asking about known issues here.
  19. Screenshots for the hard-core gamers who can't wait to have it in their hands: Mirror 1 Mirror 2 Mirror 3 Mirror 4 Album More good-news: A quick tweak guide for DOOM 3 A futuremark forum's discussion thread for all those who might find the game too hard - DOOM III Cheats
  20. Here you go : HardOCP - Benchmarks Enjoy!
  21. Quite possible. Remember that they need to have a stress-test run with it prior to release (MS calls it "dog-fooding"). Also, remember the build dates of RC1/RC2 were about 3 days before the day they were released. Same was the story with LongHorn (build 4051) as well - it's build date was 5 days earlier than when it got released at the PDC 2003 (october of that year).
  22. That's really cool! I remember when I used to use your OSX transform for WinXPSP1. Now, if it could be compatible with SP2 (due for release in a day or two), that would be fantastic.
  23. Ah, so there you are! (caught the error - I think) 1. Extract the downloaded executable using winrar. 2. You will find some .CABs and a "dxsetup.exe" inside. 3. Now copy this folder to your CD/HDD and run dxsetup.exe with the "/silent" switch.
  24. LOL, we'd rather help you stay sane.BTW, scp's post above says all that there is to be said. I add one step to his instructions, which is - confirm that you are using an original winXP or XPSP1 CD.
  25. If you had read the guide here closely, you would have found the above info, and lots more too! Do go ahead, give it a try. It will save you a lot of "re-inventing the wheel", and asking questions as well.
