HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
Kurt : Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) x64 Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) (32bit version) I'm going to take the x64 version only, and do a real reinstall today i think. Would want 8.7 official ati drivers but it will have to be done later. Also: As you may or may not be aware of, there has been announced new ATI driver support for PHYSX, more or less OpenPHYSX, or such. It is currently boosting benchmarks, and there is no need for a dedicated physx card in computer. I dont know how it is going to be released officially yet, but hoping it will be driver integration, but in the option it doesnt, a installer program, i'm hoping you may considering at least trying it out. Free performance benefits is a winner in my book. -
My mom, who had never touched a computer before, let alone not used to reading english, understood the concept of nlite, within a minute. Point and click she said. I guess you should just take the time it needs for you to understand what to do. I myself cannot even begin to fathom how one can not be able to put together a simple xp cd/dvd with updates SP, drivers, and few simple programs. Perhaps you should investigate just finding some packages, where updates are already made, so you only have to integrate one pack, instead of several individual updates for xp f.ex.

HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)

I found one thing interesting, the microsoft usb port drivers. As far as i could see it was only 2003 versions updated, but ANYWAY, if that is indeed updated usb drivers that also work perfect for xp x64, it should be permanently included. I didnt found any download atm. The version of usbport.sys i have is 5.2.3790.3959 and in that fix (copy&paste) Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, x64-based versions File name File version File size Date Time Platform SP requirement Usbehci.sys 5.2.3790.4189 52,224 14-Nov-2007 14:30 x64 SP2 Usbohci.sys 5.2.3790.4189 26,880 14-Nov-2007 14:31 x64 SP2 Usbport.sys 5.2.3790.4189 214,016 14-Nov-2007 14:31 x64 SP2 Usbuhci.sys 5.2.3790.4189 32,896 14-Nov-2007 14:31 x64 SP2 I have however never had a problem with black screen etc when turning off pc, that i know of. Anyway, i totally like having drivers updated. Let's get down on this driver and test it in any case, if this does work or not. Looking forward to this. Edit: just got it downloaded, and installed. Had to go through that e-mail me hotfix ordeal. Works great. The driver is about 1kb larger. Now for some further testing =D -

I just got word from developers of punkbuster that future version of punkbuster installer will not show error messages is previouvly here mentioned was shown if windows firewall was removed, even if installer is launched with no prompts/no display command lines. Basically this just made my day. Hopefully new version will be released soon. This just goes to show that telling people what doesnt work/or dislike etc, can sometimes actually be done something about. Total silent windows install with everything ready on first login? Yes thank you very much. -
HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
I would just like to add that i like this approach Kurt has, and as i always used anyway before i came across it , the single hotfixes integration i mean instead of packs. The pack is nice tho, but sometimes i am doing installs without IE at all, then it becomes excessive baggage, as i have my presets and similar, that keeps the install IE free, as close as anyway. Imho the pack would be better off, if IE and outlook f.ex updates were in a separate pack/s. -
XP64 vs XP32 vs Vista64 vs Vista32
TranceEnergy replied to iceangel89's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Care to back up that claim? Like I said, I have plenty of reasons NOT to... I'm already well aware of those things, but it's not practical/possible to run it on my system for various reasons. Besides, RAM disks wouldn't help very much for encoding AV, the total disk I/O speed is quite low: under 1MB/sec for xvid (which already flies, about 150fps), and MUCH lower for x264. It's really a CPU bound process -- that's by FAR the biggest bottleneck (both cores pegged at 100%). The one thing that would speed it up a lot, is a faster/quad core processor. vmware's already plenty fast, no worries there. Security stuff... non-issue. It's been years since the last virus or spyware, on any of our boxes. Lack of 64 bit drivers, lack of crucial apps for that platform (that wouldn't run or run well under WOW64) and such is however a big show stopper. Just look into group policy editor on vista, it says so there. Im not in vista so cant do a copy & paste. All i'm saying is that there's no valid reason to not choose x64 over x86 today. If one already has a 32bit os, sure that's fine, but i wouldnt advise anyone to buy a 32bit os for a new computer, given how cheap memory is alone. IF a program doesnt work under x64, it's most likely because it's outdated or the creators don't care or don't have access to a 64bit os, imho. I'm yet to have a single program that doesnt work under x64 which works under 32bit. -
Hello folks! I have this punkbuster program install "silently", which works great if i have NOT removed the windows firewall in xp. However, as most of you know, that firewall is more or less useless nowadays. So i like to have it removed as i have with many other things. The problem is: When firewall is removed, and the installer runs at the pre login stage(gui run once, as in nlite), the punkbuster program will come up with a error message, 2 actually, if firewall is removed OR inactive-not functioning. So question becomes: How can i bypass this, if possible, so i dont have to click OK on the 2 error boxes? It's a trivial ordeal, but it's just one of the few things, if not the only thing that is left for me to fix in my xp x64 unattended dvd.

XP64 vs XP32 vs Vista64 vs Vista32
TranceEnergy replied to iceangel89's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Well kind of problem here is i am comparing against x64 versions, while you are defending the x86-32bit point of view on matters which are not equal nor can be because of their nature. So it's funny =) Seeing that you have 38 processes on 32bit is way more then i had anticipated for 32bit, all tho u have some apps running. It's a good estimate for x64 still, but then again you wouldnt know seemingly. So this was like talking to the wall. FYI vista does read drives every 30 second as i stated there. I dont just say things for fun, i only write what i have seen and experienced. I'm still putting my money on that you're a much more patient and tolerant man not too keen on responses, so vista is what would suit you just fine. This is no offence, but it's a pretty clear line of who can thrive with vista and who can not. It's like coffee, sugar or milk. Everyone's taste is ultimately different. I would however like to point out that if you indeed do a lot of encoding, you should seriously look into what benefits x64 can give you. Using huge memory ram disks as temporary storage, for encoding temp space, for vmware test installs, for instant disk load gaming (always first on servers, as long as gfx/cpu can keep up), Huge system cache at your disposal (again taking strain of drives(increasing i/o performance), x64 browsing/security measures in clean x64 enviroments, advanced write features with x64 xp, not to mention all the specs of running with a x64 cpu system. -
XP64 vs XP32 vs Vista64 vs Vista32
TranceEnergy replied to iceangel89's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Herein is the problem. People ARE different. I've already stated *my* opinion on that..Having said that, so are computers - different. However, if it's true you are running system with 12 harddrives, you are bound to have several impacts on your system simply because of that. On vista ultimate group policies are updated every bloody 30 seconds, then all drives are read, and sorry to be blunt here, but either your computer is fantastic much better then anyone else's (which it aint, you have 8500gt etc), or you are simply way to tolerant and patient human being that can be quite happy with vista the way it is. And as you say you do a lot of encoding, which can take much time, im inclined to believe you are the kind of user who can be happy with vista. I am not thinking of xp 32bit, or doing comparisons to that, i am thinking of xp x64 vs my experiences with vista x64. All of this tho, i am confident that nuhi will make vlite much more like nlite in the near future, so we can perhaps give it another go. But if you can't both see and feel that vista is sluggish, then that kind of sensitivity simply does not apply to you. With over at least 40, probably between 50-60 processes running on a default vista, vs about 20-30 on xp x64, it is mathematically and logically total both within reason and result absolutely without a shadow of a doubt crystal clear that there is no chance in hell that vista would ever get down to the response time that xp then runs with. Then the argument come down to how everyone can adjust their vista or xp as they see fit, tweak things, remove things from startup and so on. I did this, to some great length, proving services and things can be disabled on vista. But i have on the other hand done so for years with various systems. To me, it is the simple truth that it will as it is today, be impossible to get vista to be as responsive as xp. It's just not possible. I tried literally every tweak known to man and some crazy stuff of my own. Even with vista running at same amount of services as xp at bare minimum, that is 4 (xp can work without any actually, but it aint recommendable), i just couldnt be satisfied. But remember, we are all different. -
create directory systemroot\resources\themes\yourtheme\ copy wallpaper, cursors and whatever you like into yourtheme. Customize cursors select wallpaper etc. Save theme as systemroot\resources\themes\yourtheme\mytheme.theme Select theme with nlite. done. You could also reside to a simply registry setting, but at some point you still need to copy the wallpaper. Better just make a theme imho. Nope. It didn't work for me. Then you did some step wrong.

Select "blank password". See your computer bios for power managment options and configure as desired. You can select minimal power tweak in nlite, so again, there is such option. Perhaps not exactly the same thing, but it does the job. I usually just set it to automatic there, which will let windows decide if i'm in the single kernel or multi kernel apartment. It also allows windows to set OEM power settings, if the ACPI is detected, that is used on laptops, mostly if not all.

The word "compability" means that in order for something else to work, you also need that component.

HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
I think we know about it. Slight problems with it tho, it approaches updating only updates, not also IE to 7 (or newest). Whether we like it or not, IE is integral part of windows. Currently Nlite does a kick a** job of integrating updates individually, so it's more suited to one's system. If the maker of the update pack would either delete IE6 updates, or start using IE7 updates, it might be the better alternative. As it is now, it aint, imho. -
XP64 vs XP32 vs Vista64 vs Vista32
TranceEnergy replied to iceangel89's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
What conclusive benchmarks have you run to show this "slow" behavior? Every benchmark i've runned gives xp pro x64 2-3% to as much as 50% faster then vista x64. Ran every thing from 3dmark to performance test. Ran Crysis tests, Mass Effect, Quake games and so forth. Especially 2d Performance, as well as memory latency test is faster for me in x64 xp. However, FORGET benchmarks, they will tell you absolutely nada about how in-game responsiveness, movement, the feeling over all. Just simple desktop tasks feels slower. Vista not only feels sluggish to me, it also performs that few milliseconds slower, enough to make me go crazy. Some people can tell if there is things as input lag, others couldn't even if their lives depended on it. Goto humanbenchmark.com, i constantly press below 100ms, which doesnt count, as that's humanily so-called impossible so it gets counted as cheating. I didnt stand a chance at doing that on vista. There was just no way in hell. Vista is good for lazy days, where needs are tv-media centers, and office programs. In my book, not even that. -
HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)

Kurt: As you say Win XP X64 doesnt need the x86 side of directx, yet it is shipped with it is it not? But that x64 cant use x86 drivers i know of course. I am just merely curious at this. I am sure that the people releasing these packs know what they are doing, but i would just like to see it confirmed somehow that it is indeed correct. -
HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
John, i have to say, i looked at that thread you linked to, my jaw simply dropped to the floor of some of the responses there. I really don't understand this attitude some people have, when you have a piece of great software, and there is a obvious way to make it even faster and simpler to manage, and then the seemingly refusal to do so. I mean come on, it would take probably like a good 10 minutes, while sipping coffee, to repackage the program into a installer with msi to have silent switches and more. I somehow suspect that there are corporate things which someone like me cannot understand, that has hindered the process, on again a level i dont fathom, as it anyways in the end goes against user requests, and then ultimately making the software reflect poor in some way it shouldnt be. If people are to buy a product (tho it is a free version of it), i think its little to ask that i have simple silent install possibilities and such. As to your Prime95 situation, which runs single core, i would recommend Orthos which is a dual core program if that is what you have. You will need to check affinity's of program if you have more then 2 cpu cores present in system. One question: I know there are several directx packages where the commercial goes only 32bit or only 64bit files included. Being windows xp 64bit, would one not need to have both 32&64bit directx pack? I at least think so and dont quite see the point here. Because even if you did just update 64bit directx side, you would then be stuck with non-updated 32bit directx. Or is this just totally wrong? -
[RELEASE] Boooggy's WMP 11 direct integration solution
TranceEnergy replied to boooggy's topic in Application Add-Ons
That is awesome!!! I just realized i dont need any of the files in wmp11.cab, so deleted it, stupid thing is i then also have more to update in txtsetup file. This made my day, i'm getting a beer, wish i could pass one along. Cheers! -
GrofLuigi, i know since i've asked nuhi, who is very smart, that some of these system files for dhcp/windows updates are still there, but they are for stability. I found that some of them can actually be deleted, but delete the wrong one's, and you will reboot into a bluescreen. However, i did that as an experiment, and JV16, reported over 2000 different registry entries (had already cleaned system, i rescanned it after deleting some system32 files, not many either), at its extreme settings, that could be deleted. So there is definitively room for further optimization, as i doubt so much is needed for things to just "work". I think the problem with getting more optimization done, is the time it takes to test things, and more importantly knowing what to test, to see if removing that extra system32 file breaks some functionality or not.

Tweak causes broken Network Connection Status
TranceEnergy replied to electronJunkie's topic in nLite
It took me a while to understand what you meant, man i need coffee now. But yes , CONFIRMED! Tho i havent checked that tweak, i use a different settings for it. Good job finding this nuisance, i never really need to check status on NICS but having thing work, is always nice. I am not going to explain it in detail, coz that would take a good page of text, but that settings along with /timeres in boot.ini and some other things, impact how windows perform. It might be that there is something at a wrong setting, not that running explorer in separate processes is wrong. I'm going to investigate this to be short.. Here is what i did. Went to network connections (control panel kind), Rightclicked on my internet connection and select STATUS. Nothing happens. Then I enable the icon in system tray. Then i rightclick on the icon, not taking any action , just right clicking on it. Immidiately STATUS shows, without me selecting to display it. So there is some kind of weird thing going on. Not going to assume any theories more at this time. Perhaps nuhi can "fix" this, if possible. I am using Windows XP 64bit. -
Windows XP pro x64 sp2, nothing added, only select to remove everything + options + sfc disabled. In order to not have a really long post, i've removed things that shouldnt be removed, and it not of interest. This post is tho only a mere peek into what seems like loose ends. According to txtsetup.sif, seems like a good place to start as any. ISO is US language. options was: [Options] ClassicSetup BlackSetupBack DisableFreereq DisableMinMem NoKeepCp RemoveMUI CleanBiosInfo ["Keyboard Layout"] 00010C0C = "Canadian French (Multilingual)" 00010C1A = "Serbian Latin" 00000409 = "US" [Files.KeyboardLayout] 00000409 = KBDUS.DLL,2 00010C0C = KBDCA.DLL,2 00010C1A = KBDYCL.DLL,2 Don't know if nuhi is partial to serbian, but i dont want the french on my system , lol =) [Mouse] msps2 = "Microsoft Mouse Port Mouse (includes BallPoint)",files.i8042,i8042prt lgps2 = "Logitech Mouse Port Mouse",files.i8042,i8042prt msbpser = "Microsoft BallPoint Serial Mouse",files.sermouse, sermouse lgser = "Logitech Serial Mouse",files.sermouse, sermouse none = "No Mouse or Other Pointing Device",files.none,"" msser = "Microsoft Serial Mouse",files.sermouse, sermouse ps2 = "Mouse Port Mouse",files.i8042,i8042prt sermouse = "Serial Mouse",files.sermouse, sermouse [Map.Mouse] msps2 = "*MICROSOFT PS2 MOUSE" lgps2 = "LOGITECH PS2 MOUSE" msbpser = "MICROSOFT BALLPOINT SERIAL MOUSE" lgser = "LOGITECH SERIAL MOUSE" none = "NO MOUSE" msser = "*MICROSOFT SERIAL MOUSE" Serial mouse? And who does not use a 'pointing device'. I guess perhaps compability reasons or something might be in effect here? Also under here, even though windows sounds are removed: [strings] MyPicturesScreenSaver = "My Pictures Screen Saver.scr" ViewChannelsSCF = "View Channels.scf" ShowDesktopSCF = "Show Desktop.scf" mqtgsvccfg= "mqtgsvc.exe.cfg" srgb = "sRGB Color Space Profile.icm" XPBalln = "Windows XP Balloon.wav" XPBatCrt = "Windows XP Battery Critical.wav" ... And so on.. There are also a ton of empty .nls entries example: wc_1142.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1143.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1144.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1145.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1146.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1147.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1148.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 wc_1149.nls = 55,,,,,,,,3,3 Also Luna theme directory and many sub directories are created, but there are no files inside of them. Same goes for MS Agent, and many others.

[RELEASE] Boooggy's WMP 11 direct integration solution
TranceEnergy replied to boooggy's topic in Application Add-Ons
Looking at the changelog most of it tells me, who isnt a programmer, absolutely nothing. I've just spent quite some time fixing the files to not install portable devices/drm/network sharing service. Is there any chance such tweak/removal options will ever be added to this program? -
Probably, good job mind-reading that one =) Having said that, shouldnt Nlite be capable of detecting whether or not to ask for cd2, if the original windows product is of that nature? Like 2003 R2 is also 2cd's as i recall. (r2 d(isc)2, lol)

HOWTO create a fully up to date XP x64 DVD (EoL Feb 2016)
TranceEnergy replied to Kurt_Aust's topic in nLite
Kurt, while talking about firewalls, is there any alternative that will effectively replace windows firewall and sort of can act is it was it? I'm trying to add windows firewall back in my preset, but it's been so long since i've used it i have forgotten all its dependencies. I have ALG with it, but Punkbuster silent install still doesnt go silently, so i am missing some components, I am working on it now tho. Have also contacted EvenBalance who makes punkbuster, so hopefully it can be made truly silent, when - only time will tell. The other alternative i see is if i had a program which could automatically click OK on the two error boxes, when windows firewall is not operational/missing. But i know of no such program that can do such a task via command line interface. -
- Disable automatic search for network folders and printers does that means i wont see my networks priners and....hmm....folders? O_o also, would it surely cancel the search for scheduled tasks? All your printers and networks will still work, it's just that windows will not immidiately try to access them, look for where they are and what the status is, is it online or operational etc. In short, if you don't have much of a hurry when rebooting you might as well leave the tweak, if you would like to go more for faster reboots and startup times, enable the tweak. Speeds gain could be absolutely impossible to detect, to a slow delay upon booting while windows waits for your printer to tell whether it's sleeping or not. For most people just enable the tweak. Computers and devices are fast enough anyway.

Are you thinking of 1 iso split in 2, or 2 different iso's?
