  1. Not risk free, but the chances of it proceding as expected is rather high. I recommend you stay with FAT32 unless you need the extra features of NTFS e.g. security permission options.
  2. I don't even have OLS, TOUR is only 16.6Mb but if you want you can delete it... it's just the Tour of Windows 98. There's another thread somewhere in this forum that has more information on how to customise a 98se install. Edit: found it at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53927
  3. You don't really need to reformat ... just install XP over your previous installation.
  4. There is a fixboot command that writes a boot sector to the drive. If you already have a boot sector that you want to use, there are some small programs that will read/write the boot sector - they're meant to be run in pure DOS, so I'm not sure if they'll work under XP command prompt. Google should find them, if not I can quickly write one for you
  5. Now I know how to boot XP from a floppy Use the floppy to boot into Command Prompt mode, then run fixboot command to restore the boot sector. That is what's missing from your drive. Set it as a Primary Master device using the configuration jumper and make sure the BIOS detects it as such. You might also need to disable the IDE controller as well, so SATA gets priority (or set SATA controller as primary). C is assigned to the first fixed disk in the system.
  6. It's normally done via FTP or SSH...
  7. Seagate's own bootdisk probably contains diagnostic programs so you can check your drive for any dead sectors etc. before using it.
  8. It might be a flaw in the program itself, as it is supposed to read the license file. I don't think this is a file extension association problem.
  9. What is the manufacturer and model of the USB controller?
  10. I think he likes that one, why else would it come with XP?
  11. PSU might be faulty and sensitive to the temperature.
  12. Find the drive in the Device Manager, select Properties, and uncheck Removeable option under one of the tabs.
  13. A single DLL with all the icons will take less space in total if you plan to have a large number of icons. (The DLL itself is larger than the filesizes of all the iconfiles combined, but it only takes one directory entry whereas the separate files will themselves take up one directory entry each (32 bytes minimum + entries for long filenames).
  14. You need dual-layer disks and burner. Singleside/singlelayer DVDs only hold 4.7Gb. Does the DVD player have the ability to read from DVD±R media? It could also be because you're missing the second half of the data!
  15. You have a duplicate APPWIZ.CPL. Go to windows\system, sort the files by Type, and look at all the .CPL files. Two of them will have exactly the same filesize and produce the same results if you right-click and choose Open with Control Panel. Delete one.
  16. Hmm.... IPF in the kernel. PM3 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7a138. Registers: EAX=0be30768 CS=016f EIP=bff7a138 EFLGS=00010216 EBX=004683f4 SS=0177 ESP=0064f048 EBP=0064f07c ECX=bfe6a09d DS=0177 ESI=004682bc FS=1887 EDX=d11b6e38 ES=0177 EDI=0be308a0 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 89 51 08 8b 53 08 8b 43 04 89 42 04 8d 93 0b 10 Stack dump: 0064f07c 004682c4 00420000 0042002c bff7b31d 00420000 004682bc 00000138 00000200 bff94645 0064f178 00000000 004682bc 0064f1d4 7ff214db 00420000Certainly looks like CopyMemory caused it. VB isn't really designed for such intensive tasks as matrix manipulation... it is Visual Basic after all
  17. I suppose it depends a bit on the resolution and the input sensitivity... your projector might have better sensitivity so that it can handle a lower voltage signal and the lower resolution means the frequency effects of a long cable are less noticeable. I've tried 1600x1200 through three 8ft cables connected together (24ft) and the result is a lot of noise and blurring on the screen.
  18. CloneDVD.
  19. Go ahead... log file are not really needed.
  20. You can try disabling DEP in BIOS...
  21. Firewall will alert you if anything is trying to send keylogs out through the network. You also have to be careful of what you download and run.
  22. Keyboard and mouse cables are not recommended to be over 6ft. Monitor cables are not recommended to be over 8ft. Even if you could connect such long cables, it probably wouldn't work at all. Best solution would be to add more fans to your computer and get air conditioner. Watercooling might also work well.
  23. Impressive results for only 2.4GHz! BTW, another Intel beat AMD in a small test here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=71251
  24. DVD-RAM is better protected due to its extra case.
  25. There are low-profile NICs? Strange... all the ones I've ever bought were rather shorter than full-height. It must be some manufacturers always using the low-profile design.
