  1. Those that are smart enough to crack the (extremely simple) activation would probably just crack this too...I'm more concerned about what Microsoft knows about its users
  2. No it doesn't...
  3. Tape? If it's the protective covering film on the connector you need to remove it first...
  4. My PSU squeaks sometimes... it also makes a wierd squishing noise when I scroll quickly with the scrollbar. I don't think it's anything to worry about if it's not too loud. Try scrolling through a PDF with Acrobat Reader. It'll make the noise as well.
  5. Boot into DOS, delete the shelliconcache in \WINDOWS, and run WIN to get back into Windows.
  6. chkdsk the driv3. The directory entry may b3 invalid.
  7. Loose mouse button?
  8. What voltage does it say in the BIOS?
  9. You don't need to adjust it, it's automatic.
  10. Impossible. Even the other security settings can be overridden with the right software
  11. for %a in ( *.cab ) do extract /d %a >> dirlist.txt find /I "explorer.exe" dirlist.txt
  12. You may have noticed "unmovable files" displayed in the defrag window, those won't be moved. Set the system and read-only attributes on files that you don't want moved.
  13. Just a porndialer shouldn't be too hard to get rid of... see Malware Removal forum in Networking/Security forum. Virus = attaches itself to other program files, spreads itself Malware = malicious program that does not spread itself.
  14. Check the time and date of the system files?
  15. Are you sure about that? I haven't seen core voltages of nearly 3 volts since the Pentium 233... according to http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_ty...pec_Rev_ENG.pdf the standard core voltage is only 1.40v !
  16. Decrease frequency setting in BIOS setup.
  17. Use PCI IDE adapter card.
  18. Partitions are enumerated at boottime, i.e. drive letters are assigned dynamically. Just boot and copy the files over from within Windows will work, otherwise if you want to use DOS then research XCOPY command.
  19. I use a different generic USB driver (UMSS) that doesn't even have the Safely Remove Icon, all I need to do is unplug it. I think having to eject the device manually is a moot point, since Windows won't write-cache removable devices. Just don't pull it out while it's writing/reading.
  20. Yet more misinformation... I clearly remembering using DOS 4.01 with a 300Mb hard disk... the actual maximum limit is 2Gb. Isn't it 128Gb?
  21. Use a resource editor. The icons are located in one of the files...
  22. Check shell= line in system.ini, make sure it's set to explorer.exe
  23. I don't think there is... but if you put those installers on a CD then you can "optimise" the ISO which basically performs the function you're seeking. +Instmsia and Instmsiw? Those are MSI installers, you only need one copy of each - your machine probably has those files already, all you need to do is run the .MSI file to install. Try installing without them; if it works, you can delete those files to free some space.
  24. You want a text capture? Choose Edit -> Mark from the system menu and select as much as you want, then choose Edit -> Copy. Now you have a text capture of the DOS window.
  25. That doesn't even look like 98se. It looks like a combination of Vista + XP I see we can get more NT-only programs to run, but I personally wouldn't use any version of Acrobat Reader beyond 5.0 - they started getting bigger and more sluggish at that point.
