  1. If you really want to show off the maximum wattage of your PSU, there are 1200+ watt server PSUs...
  2. Be aware of the fact that quite a few of Logitech and other manufacturer's webcams that claim 640x480 or higher resolutions actually contain 320x240 sensors, but use hardware scaling (better than software, but still nowhere near as good as real sensor pixels). I've disassembled a few of these that say "640x480 sensor" in their specifications, but upon checking the sensor chip part #, it turns out to be actually 320x240 but with hardware scaling. Explains why the unscaled output of a cheap 320x240 webcam can look more clear than the scaled 640x480 of a name-brand one.
  3. Quite common for USB hardware to be detected by the BIOS and emulated as their standard equivalent. There is a "Legacy USB Emulation" or similar option in most BIOSes (Award 6.00PG, for example)
  4. If REG IMPORT is too easy for you, learn to use a scripting editor - they're very powerful (but difficult to learn...). Examples include sed and awk (almost a programming -I mean, scripting- language)
  5. Have you examined the exports of the DLL with a PE editor? Sometimes the function names are either self-descriptive (and a bit of reversing and experimentation should reveal the parameters etc.) or make good search terms for further exploration.
  6. Please, let's keep the discussion in this thread relevant to the manipulation of files over 2Gb in size under Windows 9x...
  7. Does the drive itself have an auxillary power connector? Do they even spin up when connected? It seems you may be experiencing a power problem. Physical disk drives need considerably more power than those based on flash RAM.
  8. Put the hard drive in another computer as a secondary (laptop HDDs are smaller, but you can get adapter to connect it to a standard IDE 40-pin interface) and retrieve all needed files, then format and reinstall OS and programs. Restore backed-up files (ensure any executables are not infected.) Don't forget to be more careful, or you may have to repeat the procedure again.
  9. Delete the directory containing the Win98 files. By default it's \WINDOWS, although it can be different (you'll know if you changed it, since it's a definite decision done at install time.)
  10. Better to make an image of the drive with e.g. Norton Ghost onto another drive, since a failing hard drive can fail completely at any time.
  11. BTW standard "Windows Classic" option uses slightly less RAM and may improve response time. This is because the Windows XP Style UI is consisted of all bitmaps, while the previous Classic style uses vector descriptions (lines/rectangles).
  12. Open any folder, configure its view to what you prefer, then Tools -> Folder Options -> View There is an Apply to All Folders button which applies the current view style to all the other folders when you open them. Click it, then try opening the CD files again.
  13. Ensure the following is checked (right-click taskbar, select Properties). It also happens sometimes even despite the above setting, in the case recommended it to restart Explorer.exe.
  14. Win98SE has problems with files > 2Gb. See Copy2Gb thread in 98SE unofficial fix subforum for more information.
  15. This looks remarkably like the graphics of the game Habbo Hotel (www.habbo.com)
  16. You spelled it wrong, what'd you expect I even tried w32.bacardi
  17. A thousand watts? How much overclocking are you planning on doing?
  18. Your hard drive might be dying.

  20. Cache
  21. Bad hard drive.
  22. Some of the cheap no-name Chinese ones are surprisingly good... 320x240 @ 30fps from a $15 webcam I had (gave it away since I didn't need it).
  23. Some ultra-small embedded systems computers only have USB ports. As far as I know, all standard PC mobos still contain standard PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports.
  24. Yes, if you have a look at http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/ you'll find hundred of reports of "smart" people buying LARGE sticks from "occasional" sources, like some e-bay auctions, for a SMALL price and later find that the stick is a fake one. But I thought that the smallest was 16 Mb, not 8Mb, so maybe this is not the case. jaclaz From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive
  25. WMP can play streams. I forget, but there are many sites with various free TV streams that can watch in WMP.
