  1. IE6 causes problems when large amounts of files are copied, moved, or deleted. BROWSEUI.DLL and BROWSELC.DLL have to be replaced with earlier versions from 5.5 to stop this from happening.
  2. Next time save it as a PNG. That'll stop it from getting blurry and straining the eyes. Certainly an interesting screenshot. Win9x appears to be using moar than 32 bits internally for filesize calculations, or something similar... I'd say the cluster chain was damaged and enlongated, so you should do a scandisk, but still...
  3. Use an older version of WMP. I've heard from other users that 6.4 is probably the best for 9x systems.
  4. 4,572,612,608?? Since when did FAT32 support files over 4Gb? A screenshot of the properties page is much appreciated. The maximum size of a file is supposed to be 4,294,967,294 bytes. I just checked the FAT32 directory entry format, and the file size field is indeed 4 bytes and there don't seem to be any more places for hiding an additional extension to the file size, except for the 1 byte at 0C titled 'Reserved for use by Windows NT'... Notice the little "NT" right above the file size byte? If FAT32 actually stored 5-byte filesizes, the maximum limit would theoretically be extended to 1Tb-2 (1,099,511,627,774 bytes)!! B)
  5. Those are idling temperatures, they'll be much higher under load. I'm thinking it's overheating, especially when I read Also, does it make a strange sound (much like a high-pitched squealing or whine) when it turns off? If so, the shutoff was due to something shorting out and activating the overload protection of the PSU.
  6. That's not very clever really. I have seen that Mr Loew, who is registered on this forum, has been around the 137GB patch thread recently. I guess he has inspected your patches and has been satisfied that his work has not been simply copied by you, otherwise I guess he would have said something. So why this tease LLXX ? Can you tell me what is the point of it ? Noone is going to pay for his patch when there's a free (and better-performing, too) alternative available. I wouldn't even watn to copy his code, because it simply isn't that great. 4.25? The maximum filesize of FAT32 is only 4Gb - 2 bytes...
  7. Windows has built-in FTP utility named, not surprisingly, ftp.exe. With some echo commands in a batch file to create a script for it and then redirect ftp.exe's input from the script, it is possible to automate FTP'ing.
  8. http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/D/6/3D626581-734B-406D-B625-D3D92B950CF4/wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exeFound via http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...p;qstechnology= The "real" download page gives a "Operating System Not Supported" message (I'm on Win98... don't feel like changing the user-agent either), so I just searched the downloads and found the above link.
  9. Nothing strange at all, just physically damaged media. Google 'file recovery' or similar queries if you want to try to recover the contents of that file.
  10. I'm not sure why, but MDGx is the only one here to say that Make2Gb didn't work with my patched 2226 kernel. All others, and confirmed testing on my own (virtual and real) machines show otherwise. Perhaps that is his reason for release the one he thinks to be working? Much of this site goes against M$ EULA anyway - nLite, some unattended setup files, etc. Also, remember that M$ provides no support for Win9x anymore. If they were to complain about the contents of this site, the projects in these subforums definitely won't be their first target. I'd say http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=23719 is more vulnerable to legal threat....although a certain Mr. Loew might be a bit irritated by Enable48bitLBA
  11. no, it can't damage your motherboard. if it could, the motherboard would have to have loose diodes or whatever already, and you'd know about that. Actually, if it was air from a compressor if can, because there may be moisture in the air.... There's always moisture in the air. If there's enough humidity for water droplets to start forming on surfaces, your environment is unsuitable for any sort of electronic equipment. Besides, small amounts of water will evaporate quickly.
  12. I believe you're looking for a codec called MJPG (Motion JPG).
  13. 60 gigabytes??? Even so, I doubt most of those 200MB are going to be codecs.
  14. Actually, I read somewhere that an EULA is not a legal document... something to do with it not being negotiable and not signed by both parties.
  15. Good luck remembering where you put them, and where the real bad clusters are.
  16. It depends what method is being used for submitting the data. It may be simple HTTP POST or GET, or a proprietary binary protocol. Read RFC2616 "HTTP/1.1" for more information (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2616.html)
  17. Thread ressurection... Even if the OP isn't going to reply any more, the problem is most likely a shell hook in the desktop.ini in the My Pictures folder.
  18. Actually 260w is the entire system, not just the CPU. CPU is consuming ~150W at 4GHz. Yours probably will run stable 4GHz on air cooling, but even if it doesn't, 3.x GHz is still good. I don't know about you, but power is cheap here. Also, you don't need to run it at full overclock all the time, many of the newer Asus mobos can change clock frequency from within Windows with no reboot.
  19. Vista, on a 1.1GHz machine? That's not going to perform well.
  20. CRT? The tube's dying. You can try adjusting the focus, but it won't last much longer.
  21. You will always lose quality in reencoding.
  22. LLXX, please rethink what you are saying. You can always say "use an older version", to any piece of software. That's not what this is about. Not to mention the newer versions have various features that the old ones don't, and some hubs now do not accept users with 0.4x versions of DC++ anymore. The point is various applications implement MSLU correctly (including, for example, the recent VLC Media Player 0.8.5, or Microsoft's own Windows Media Player, etc.), but there are some bugs in the newer versions of DC++ that cause problems on Windows 98. These are bugs which by all means should be fixed - if someone can figure out why the problems are happening. This is why I posted the links to the source code - I was hoping one of you capable programmers could look into the issues, and perhaps figure out what needs to be changed. The developers of DC++ have pretty much given up on fixing the issues with Windows 9x, therefore the only way things are gonna get fixed is if someone else can do it! Thanks for your consideration, Ivan Simple change the version number of an older version so it identifies itself as a newer version, that should work... I did the same thing with my eMule 0.46b. Still works fine.I'm not a programmer either, more of a reverser. Maybe I'll code my own DC++ client when I have the need to, but I doubt that's going to happen.
  23. The Recycle Bin is NOT for storing your files! Maybe this behavior will teach you to be a little more careful with the Delete command.
  24. Different programs use the CPU in different ways. Maybe the more bloated IE code is just not stressing the CPU enough for it to overheat and slow down.
