You can start Windows from a MS-DOS 7.1 boot disk, ensure WinBootDir and WinDir are set correctly in MSDOS.SYS. Boot to the prompt, change to the windows directory, and enter WIN command.

I've found that Window's standard PS/2 compatible Mouse Driver is usually better than any drivers the mouse might come with. Try reinstalling the standard driver and see if it helps.

This agrees with my experience, "RAM optimiser" programs rarely work as intended. Most are purely cosmetic.

Bad idea, flash RAM has a limited number of write cycles (much less than magnetic media). Several million writes (which I believe is the current standard of reliability) to the same location seems much, but for an application like a pagefile that number will be reached very easily.
