  1. Agreed. They're very sturdy and... business-like.
  2. 5Kb of code that does nothing? That's... a whole lot of nothing Try setting the options to not include any libraries to be linked in except for ExitProcess in kernel32.dll.
  3. You're looking for the LE/LX file format? http://www.textfiles.com/programming/FORMATS/lxexe.txt
  4. I have 98se Chinese and French, PM me for further information.
  5. I'm not worried about this. Seriously.
  6. ffdshow.
  7. I use two main OSs, one highly customised 98SE and another highly customised XP (original). On the XP system I have turned off almost all the services and secured the IE. I tend to wander into rather questionable websites (I've given links to others which have resulted in their machines getting pwned with spyware, while nothing happens with mine - they blame it on me, but in fact it's their machine that's not secured properly) and I do download a lot of software, but it seems that both the XP and the 98SE are completely clean of any malware after several years (98SE: 6 XP: 2)
  8. Asus P5P800SE + any recent 775 socket CPU. All the 800-series Intel chipsets work well with Win98. You will encounter problems with 900-series until we can get some universal drivers written.
  9. Have you tried to save the stream as a file and then play it back?

    sdcc.exe

No. If you never even heard of a "small device c compiler" (and you should know if you installed it), then it's probably malware. If you upload the file I can do an inspection of it.
  11. He's already tried that... I think you might be having problems with your hard drive. What exactly are the error messages?
  12. Save twice.
  13. Remove all that HP bloatware crap and install the standard PCL printer driver that comes with Windows.
  14. and @ the post below that one, I figured it out - it's a registry key called PaintDesktopVersion.

    DirectX Died

LOL, 2 gigabytes of video RAM on a GeForce4?
  16. Could you add the MD5 of the EXE itself? The RAR MD5 matches, but...

Eh... I'll do it the "normal way": 4850. It's also worth noting that from an estimate of the time and the distance traveled, the ball is being kicked at a velocity of approximately 200m/s and the monkey is over 50m tall
  18. Overheating. Heatsink not in good contact with the CPU. Get some thermal compound and apply a thin layer, and also make sure the heatsink is seated squarely on the CPU top.
  19. It was probably not attached well to the case (or the case itself didn't get cooled well) which explains why it got so hot (and also likely why it died - of overheating). They do get hot when isolated with no airflow, one time I was formatting a 120Gb 7200RPM WD, and it got hot enough to slightly melt the plastic coating of the tabletop it was sitting on.
  20. VirtualDub.
  21. Small and doesn't need .NET, but... "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." EXE doesn't look corrupted... BTW, would using another do-nothing program (maybe even a 1-byte COM file that just returns) have the same effect? I don't use WLM... Example 1-byte do-nothing program attached (not a ZIP, forum doesn't like COM extension for some reason). (It would've probably been easier to just say it's a single byte Alt+195... ) Nothing.com.zip
  22. Open a command prompt and type "format /?" and read through the options. In particular, /Q.
  23. Search this forum for "maxfilecache" and look through those threads for the solution.
  24. Most likely the modem drivers. Try installing newer versions.
