  1. if this is so easy to reverse, please 'reveal' the true values where the 'x' are. I have not done anything else to the exe its made using the defaults in Aut2Exe. I accept your challenge... RunAsSet("administrator", "cpu", "msfn")" RunWait("ImgBurn.exe")...and here are the entire contents of the script ; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ; <AUT2EXE INCLUDE-START: D:\Program Files\AutoIT3\RunAs.au3> ; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ; Set the RunAs parameters to use local adminstrator account ; Run registry editor as admin ; Reset user's permissions RunAsSet("administrator", "cpu", "msfn") RunWait("ImgBurn.exe") RunAsSet() ; ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ; <AUT2EXE INCLUDE-END: D:\Program Files\AutoIT3\RunAs.au3> ; ----------------------------------------------------------------------------Do you believe it's safe now?
  2. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm Free. External PSU? What's the wattage?
  3. Norton Ghost?
  4. No Azureus for me because I absolutely hate Java. It's slow and bloated. BitComet and uTorrent are my favorite. BitComet only because it can rename the files in multi-file torrents while downloading (I've searched everywhere and am surprised it is the only non-Java client to have this feature, since apparently someone likes to put wierd and long filenames in the torrent...), and uTorrent for it's minimal resource consumption - necessary, since P2P clients like these are normally left alone in the background to download while the user goes on with other work.
  5. Just get the full one, unpack it, rip out the toolbar crap, and repack it.
  6. I know that... other filters will give you different property pages. Another thing to try - a tiny Media Player built into Windows itself - Start -> Run, run RUNDLL c:\windows\system\amovie.ocx,RunDll You'll get a file->open dialog, pick a media file, and start playing. For easier use, create a shortcut with that command line. I can play 5 AVIs at a time with these, and CPU usage still stays below 50%. One WMP already takes more than that!
  7. The CPU die has only a small amount of mass so it can change temperatures very quickly. It might seem fine in the BIOS, since in those few seconds between the reboot and you entering BIOS setup the temperatures have already dropped significantly. E.g. on my machine, at full load with Prime95 the CPU reaches ~60°, but after stopped the testing for a few seconds it goes back down to the low 30s. A realtime temperature monitor is the best way to monitor the temperatures. That only means that your memory is fine. Memtest86 doesn't stress the CPU much. Run Prime95 to check the stability of the CPU.I'm thinking it might be more of a CPU overheating problem than a PSU one, since CPUs change temperatures very quickly and you can't really check afterwards in the BIOS - it will have cooled off to idling by then, unless your heatsink and fan are really weak.
  8. ...also, when automated recovery programs are unable to recovery anything, using a disk editor directly will work, providing you have a good understanding of the filesystem structure. Photos stored by digital cameras don't tend to be fragmented but instead stored contiguously, and almost all of them are JPG which have easily identifiable headers, so even if the filesystem structure is corrupt or entirely missing it should still be relatively easy to identify the start and end of each file. Just don't let the recovery program attempt to write to the volume being recovered, otherwise it could make things worse, especially if you plan to try several different recovery programs.
  9. It depends how much power the rest of the hardware needs. What are your system specs?
  10. "If there's a will, there's a way"
  11. Most likely. At least 350 is recommended, 400 is even better.
  12. I'd take the third one. 550 watts for $1 less than the 500...
  13. Ghost is quite good... I'd say it's the only decent software that Norton make.
  14. Yes, I believe they're the same. See the multiboot CD/DVD forum I think there is a download of the bootfile there.
  15. I think that chip must be the spindle motor controller, as that is one of the only high-current ICs on the PCB. Their design must be running it outside of its specifications so it overheated and burned.
  16. The HDD is a WD1200JB and it's a write-through cache (i.e. only caches reads) so I don't see there being a need to "flush" it. Why this problem occurs if the HDD is only "more than 25% full" is also rather suspicious. I also wait for all disk activity to cease before shutting down, and so far haven't had any problems with it. I've disabled the disk scanning on startup, but I run scandisk once in a while and it never finds any problem with the filesystem. I think this problem depends mainly on the hard drive model and manufacturer.
  17. Memtest86 loops repeatedly, so let it run overnight. Prime95 you can just do the standard test.
  18. You can't get the exact location, and of course if they're using a proxy you'll get the location of their proxy instead. I've tried the whois services on my own IP, and (unproxied) it reports the location as ~500km away from my real location.
  19. Problem with your FTP server? Since you mentioned you've tried 4 different clients already, I doubt it's a client problem.
  20. Try some of the data recovery programs mentioned here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=67728
  21. It looks like a vacuum cleaner It'd certainly attract some attention
  22. The BIOS provides preliminary microcode updates at boottime, but the OS will also update the microcode to a newer version with its pseudodriver (UPDATE.SYS for Intels, K6/K7.SYS for AMDs).
  23. Haven't reached 800mb with my Liteon burner and generic media, but close... 782. I think it's the media, since there are read errors near the end and they are intermittent. From what I've heard others say, this one can read up to 870mb. There is also 800, 850, and 900mb media available.
  24. Program's file itself is corrupted?
  25. Copy all the files from the floppies to your hard drive, then burn those to the CD.
