  1. Did you take into account hidden/system files? NTFS alternate data streams (if using NTFS)? You may also want to CHKDSK/SCANDISK to see if the free space is being reported incorrectly.

  7. Depends on your metalworking skills Mount a fan on the side panel blowing directly over the CPU cooler. Put baffles inside the case to direct the air so that it doesn't create a short-circuit loop in the CPU cooler.
  8. That's symptomatic of a faulty CPU voltage regulator or damper capacitor(s).Does it even beep, flash the keyboard LEDs, or attempt to read from the hard drive? If it does, then the problem lies with the video subsystem. Otherwise, the mobo or CPU is at fault.
  9. Use a download manager like FlashGet. Much more versatile than the browser's built-in downloader.
  10. Has the following question ever occurred to any one of you above? He specifies the destination filenames, but what about the source filenames? ...how are you going to ensure that the renaming takes place in the intended order? I think an actual program instead of a batch file is in order here.

  12. What you're talking about is essentially hardware protection i.e. d0ngles which have been around since the 1980s. Read some more information about software copy-protection systems.
  13. It's alright to get 64-bit hardware, since it's getting more and more common. It will support 16,32,and 64-bit software. As for the software, 64-bit software seems to have not reached its stable stage yet. Expect compatibility problems. Also, 16-bit software unfortunately does *not* run on 64-bit Windows (yet?). This is particularly of importance if you have many years worth of old software that you still use.

  24. No LLXX. Editing any one of the INI files does not work with any version of Win98 setup. Worked okay with Win95 SR2 setup but not with Win98/ME setup. Please read carefully http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=53927 and pay particular attention to "ProductType".
  25. All CPUs are backwards compatible; the Intel 64-bit CPUs (Celeron and Pentium Ds) can run 16,32,and 64-bit code.
