  1. Is it onboard ? If yes, you could try resetting the Bios to default.
  2. If I do, the printer is next to you at home but the files and applications you want to print from are running on a pc in your office. Right ?
  3. If it was that simple to check a "VLK" box in nLite and get an activated XP, ... It's the "K" in VLK that sets it, you do have to enter the key.
  4. No but you can move your files to that one location. I think 98seSP2 sets that path.

    dual boot

So what partition is active now ? This is important because that one becomes C once you boot. From there on any boot manager will do.
  6. You need to boot ONCE from DVD to start install. So -either the disc offers the choice "Hit any key to boot from CD/DVD" and you hit a key the 1st time only (this doesn't seem to be your problem) -either you set the PC'BIOS to boot from CD and after 1st reboot you reset it to HDD first -either you set the PC to boot HDD first and use the "F12" key to boot once from CD/DVD.
  7. Is your XP including SP1 or SP2 ? It is needed to manage partitions that big.
  8. There's a program called ReplayAV that does record (also) .flv movies. This does work for modems and ethernet, I did not get it to work with USB adsl modem and I cannot remember wether it was a demo version or if it had (time ?) limitations. You end up with your flv file which is not very convenient.

    OS IMAGE

    Add "Power Quest Drive Image".
  10. Until you set it manually, then it's moved to the root.

    winxp sp3 ?

    NT4 was out in 96, its sp6 was out in 99 ! ...That's 3 years later !
  12. did you... remove OOBE ?
  13. I don't see why you go mad and say your problem is not fake. It is not specified in your first post that you format the whole HDD and that there is no other partition. Also if your source CDs are..."from the Internet", there might be a fault in your media. If you really installed all of those OSs on the same machine, there might be some junk left in your MBR. If you can, whipe it (with for instance Ranish Partition Manager, booting from DOS).

    98 to ME

    Hide Partition

Check the last post here I haven't tried it but it looks very simple. I don't know if it will modify your boot manager's behaviour.
  16. And please use ponctuation, your sentences are very hard to understand (no offence).
  17. one more stupid question then (sorry): did you check that on the same machine ?

    qs

Before you get flamed, I'll try to answer your questions. Users are ... users of the computer, that will be setup automatically. Those accounts will exist when the installation is finished without needing to create them afterwards. --> you don't "need" to specify a value, you can create a user. --> if you don't specify, no additional user will be created -"adminisrator" and "guest" are MS buid-in accounts. You can also deactivate any of them if you want. OOBE is the "Out of the Box Experience, it's the part where you create the users and set an Internet connection to register and activate your XP. If you use "skip OOBE", no activation possible, even later. The list of installed "Language Groups" controls which user locales, input locales, and system locales are available. These resources include code pages and fonts. Localization will define things like how numbers are shown, money units and other. If you ever installed any flavour of Windows, you might probably vaguely remember about all these formalities you have to fulfill. It's not hard for him, he just assumes people wanting to tweak a Windows Install CD know about that Windows installation at first. And as the program is free, he might as well concentrate on the work it does.
  19. Stupid question, but... does the key work for the original CD (before updates) ?
  20. nLite has an option to disable requirement. With your specs, I'd use nLite at a maximum (surely to gain HDD space), but you'll still end up with an unusable machine. If it's for the scientific side of it, you can do it, if it's with hope to use the pc in the real world... I think you are wasting your time.

    WinXpProOEMSP2?

download sp2 from microsoft take your xp sp1 cd and slipstream sp2 into it with nlite and u will get a brand new cd with sp 2. Send it by post to yourself. Forget about it for one day then check the letter box. Problem solved.
  22. I think you do need SP1 with XP.
  23. Yes you can... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303661 ... "start a session as administrator..." He can't.
  24. Or an easier way is to disable the multiboot; right-click My Computer, Property/Advanced / Startup and Recovery Setings and untick the 1st box.
