  1. The way Windows was licensed to him made him pay less when he bought his pc.
  2. You cannot use your previously nLited cd to restart. Use the Last_session.ini on that CD if there is any and import it at the beginning of the new nLite process but use a clean source of XP files for start. Be aware that if the nLite version is different, you'll have to recheck most settings anyway.
  3. From what I know, the orientation of the drive should not be an issue.
  4. There is no such thing as a standard sound driver (as the standard VGA). So I think it is not possible. Even with Bart PE you can't have sound without ading your own drivers. + the sound would have to come from somewhere (100Meg on the cd ?) and you'd get borred of it quickly. + it would slow down the install 20%.
  5. I confirm my Compaq portable (166MHz) had hibernate function under Win95. The idea was to spare the battery. I'm not sure the option was available "when plugged on main". But I don't think this was a Compaq added feature (it was Windows).
  6. Search in the separate addon forum.
  7. Yes, there are a lot of addons. http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/plugins/.
  8. What is possible is that on an older motherboard, a big HDD is not recognized with its full capacity. If this is what you're talking about... geniusguy? Updating the Bios might solve this problem. But it does NOT make the HDD look bigger than it actually is and even less let you use more than you got. As for a Bios update solving the same problem with RAM, I can't remember seing any case. But again, you'll never have it seing more than there is. Whoever told you that got you pwned.
  9. Was the PC not under warranty anymore ? I'm afraid the XP license was linked to that PC and particularly to that motherboard but now you replaced it by an other brand's... You can try to get a hold on an other XP OEM disk and see if your serial works with that one. That would be legally on the (good side of the) edge.
  10. Get "part244.exe" from Ranish Partition Manager and see what it says about your drives and where's the 90% lost free space you're not using.
  11. Maybe people don't consider this as "news" ? I think I read about it 4 years ago. B)
  12. You obviously know more than yopu want to say, so if you want help, tell us why not Ryan which is the perfect solution ?
  13. I guess the idea was "1 primary partition, 1 OS, Microsoft's, stick to it". Ranish Partition Manager and Boot Manager for instance can make and handle up to 31 primary partitions, but once you've booted, you only get 4 of them visible (could be including an extended and all it's logicals). I also agree this is a strange reason to dig up a 5 months old thread.
  14. LOL, That's a good one ! Here a big revelation; nLite is even worse than you think. After you're finish, you have to boot from the CD it created and it has you installing WINDOWS XP (created by Micro$oft) !!! sometimes UNATTENDED ! Aint that evil ?
  15. Yes.

Cars do crash in trees, the maker is rarely the cause though.
  17. Yes, your new virtual machine is like a new PC, you need to "boot it" from a CD/DVD (you'll have to find out how to, I've only ever used VirtualBox which boots the CD by default) and install Windows on it. As said before, you can use XP long enough to take your screen shots before you have to activate.
  18. I might be wrong but this is not creating a user, this is tampering with the standard "Guest" account that doesn't appear in the Welcome Screen at first.
  19. If it's not in Disk Manager, it might be a hardware problem. Try hooking it directly to an IDE cable if possible and hope for the best.

Maybe something worth mentioning: did you bother to install SP2 ? If not, that would be a good start (and a reazsonable recommendation ).I've been using free (or even no) AV and firewalls and I've had maybe 6 viruses in 10 yearssince more than 10 years now, with IE. I think most people really wonder how you get up to 2963 viruses (and I guess you reinstall quite often). Again, no offence, but this must be linked to user's behaviour.

    Help please

Looks like -you haven't tried nLite -you haven't searched the forum -you haven't even read the posting rules see you later.
  22. I'm curious how you were able to make 4 partitions but you don't know how to reformat. What tool did you use ? What's the exact message when you try to recover ? Maybe making the 1st partition big enough for XP to be installed could solve your problem.
  23. Unfortunately, RyanVM's pack is intended for english versions only and there is no swedish translation yet.
  24. 1) How do you "get past that"? 2) are you using a standard or modded WinXP disk ? 3) it is clearly a video driver or setting problem. Try to lower resolution (starting in safe mode would be a good start) and check if there is an update for SP2 for your video card's driver.
  25. I think I did That's what we all want and do. That's where you are wrong, nLite and Ryan's pack are way easier That's where you need to read my answer.
