  1. You can do that by editing the "ntldr" file. It is not very straightforward as you need to change the bmp file aswell as the color palette. Google for "change XP boot screen", there are even some programs that will do it for you. Edited:... damned, I'm slower than sleepy.
  2. Erpdude8 is talking OS option, you are talking "Win95 built in 3rd party" (??) or Bios feature. You can LOL if you want .
  3. Usually, the fan goes full speed at startup untill the CPU takes control of it. If that noise now is different than it was before, it is a dirt/dust/hardware problem. If the noise is just the same but happens more frequently during normal use, then it's a heating problem. Or no problem at all.

    Integrating language

The linked thread is about "removed language" also. Check the link in the link (the last post).

  6. Could also be an add-blocking setting in the Firewall, if any.
  7. 630Meg compressed files on a desktop that's on a network share ? I'd say this is a display refresh problem and a bad idea because this will slow everything. Your antivirus for instance will be scanning these files constantly.
  8. If Windows was installed to something else than the C drive, I'm afraid there is no easy way to change that. Did you mean that or do you mean there is no C drive ( ???) or C is a CD rom or what ?

  10. Hi Greg, You could try nLite and its numerous addons, maybe the free applications you are talking about are already listed and ready to integrate (check the addon section of the nLite forums).
  11. If you have the Synaptic driver (it's on Acer's site for sure) installed, there is one more pane in the mouse properties in Conntrol Panel (in case the Synaptic icon is not on the taskbar already. The options you are looking for are in the "Tap Zones"part that you first need to enable (Settings / Tapping / Tap Zones).
  12. Was there any failure notice in the end repport ? (there is also a chkdsk option in the System/Storage menu)
  13. Welcome screen does not revert to default keyboard like classic log on. Make sure none of the accounts changes the keyboard layout.
  14. I guess he boots from a cd with PM on it after the install has completed ?
  15. Excuse me if I'm wrong but from the first attachement, it looks like autoUpdate is (greyed but) enabled. Even if the question is about "enabling" it, maybe rauphelhunter needs to be clearer about wether he wants to disable it or reenable the choice.
  16. I think -with all due respect also- that when common sense applies, other persons know what one means. That's leads to communication, as opposed to monologue.
  17. What do you mean by saying that FAT has partitions ? It does not make any sense, does it ? He obviously meant "FAT was designed for systems having single primary partition..." and he also meant FAT as OS from the times they only could read FAT and there for Win9X, as this is the Win9X forum. And may I remind both of you that this is a thread from november 06 and it's been answered since a long time .
  18. Yes. Are you sceptical ?
  19. Check this thread on nLite's forum.
  20. Idontwantdiggingupoldthreads.
  21. Was it 800x600 with your 266MHz laptop or with an other computer ? +Design on 13 inch What has this 17" reference screen to do with the problem ? What screen are you actually having problem with ? You'd need a 15inch screen on the laptop for that.
  22. Autofill entries are in a file in the user's profile. The file is called "outlook.nk2" or something like that and is hidden in the Application Data folder. If the local file is deleted, Outlook restarts with a blank file, and thus autofill only appears on the second time you use same adress. That's all I can say now.
  23. Enable "legacy USB" in Bios and check the "halt on error" section if applicable. Does it stop in XP or before Windows even starts.
  24. Welcome to the forums, andywrob. Maybe read the entire thread before posting ? Or if you were replying to someone other than the thread starter, maybe let us know. Surely you were not replying to any of the last posts that say that all is summed up and finished after those 3 pages...
  25. ME doesn't do that (thanks Bill). There is a patch for the boot files allowing it though. You can search for it, or see here for instance.
