  1. You obviously did not do the math correctly. More like 10 times those figures. Now, how would the factory process be cheaper for 16/9 than 4/3 ?
  2. That's because you have less pixels as well so it costs less to produce. The further from the "square" shape, the less surface for the same diagonal.
  3. Not very intuitive, but yes, there is: Set option to "No Paging File" when C: is selected, then select the partition you want to move it to and set it to your choice. As stated by Yzöwl, for optimal performance (never did it but I can understand why), move it to the 1st partition of an other physical HDD.
  4. People replied to his idea of starting the install trough Network PXE boot, I assumed there was no floppy drive either on his laptop. If not, maybe read Jaclaz's guide and create a bootable USB stick ? ... wating for Jaclaz to come by and post 5 link in a row ...
  5. It's an AMI Bios from 2002 and there is no such option to enable or disable. XP version is SP2(FR) + update pack (french equivalent of Ryan)+Windows updates. Thanks anyway.
  6. I think he'll need help booting into DOS without working cdrom.
  7. Or check your Last_Session.ini instead of running the program.
  8. I did install the drivers (it's a "VIA4in1" and I rechecked I downloaded the good one). As I said, I swapped the cable with the one from the other computer as well, no difference. I tested with PC-Check under DOS and see exactly the same problem. HDDs are quite recent 30 and 40Gig so way beyond ATA66. I wish you were right. I'll check for the capacitors when I go back over there. Is "PIO 4" good or bad ?
  9. Hi, I spent my sunday reinstalling my sister's old computer, all drivers, all updates etc... From ME to XP. added some megs, updated Bios, almost perfect, waiting for the kids to trash it. What bothers me is that the HDD is slow as hell, the mobo claims "Dual bus Master IDE Ultra DMA33/66 /100" but the disks is exactly twice as fast when I run it on an other DMA 66 mobo. I think the mobo is bad but you never know, maybe any of you knows better. Mobo is MSI-6309 v2, PIII800MHz, last Biosv3.8, optimized default loaded, tried with older Bios versions also (flashed 6 times !!!). Triple checked jumpers, tried with other HDD same problem, drive is alone on the right end of the cable, tried with other cable (both 80 wires), also tried on secondary IDE, still same problem. Drive is detected as "UltraDMA4 capable" on boot screen, then "running mode PIO 4" on the next screen. Anyone an idea ?
  10. If you keep the disk for yourself, there is really no need for any "zero fill" or "secure erase" whatever. Deleting all partitions and erasing the Master Boot Record will get you a HDD as empty as you can get for any sort of install. I mean the only remaining info would have to be found with special tools. I use a DOS boot CD or floppy with Ranish Partition Manager. Press E on the MBR and everything is gone. You can also "erase" the full disk with it but what for ?
  11. Just run nLite with a fresh set of files, load the last_session.ini and untick the items you did not want to delete.
  12. A BartPE CD would allow you to copy available files to an USB stick for instance but if as the tech said the drive is unmountable, there is little chance you can get anything. Still if you see the Windows logo, it must be accessible, or at least for a while. Either the drive becomes unusable because it heats after few seconds, either there is something really strange. Or the tech didn't really try.
  13. ...maybe because that's what Lite stands for.
  14. I don't really get your problem. All fields are independants. You want to have two languages and keyboards from the start ? If yes I don't think nLite can do that.
  15. You mean you've redone the whole process ? Readded the same drivers a second time and recreated the iso just to see what you had done the 1st time ?
  16. SP2 does contain all previous updates for all XP versions so there is no need to keep those. I guess that's ~2/3 gone.
  17. Default Language and Keyboard are on the same page of Unattended section, you can't miss them. I think the reg key you're looking for is user/default/Contrl Panel/International/sLanguage For the keyboard, it'a lso there (/locale). The keyboards before login are in Users/Default/keyboard layout/preload.
  18. You'd get more help in the nLite forum, that question has been replied to numerous times. I think it is caused by missing files in the root of the cd + You "found a a post but still get the message", fine, but what have you done in between ?
  19. If you've come so far as integrating drivers, you must have noticed an step to integrate Addons, just before. Well you put those all in nLite in tat AddOns section. nLite will take Ryan's pack as first (I think Nuhi once said that), for the rest you can sort the order of integration with little arrows on the side of the box. At what point of the installation procedure do all these things get installed? Everything gets integrated in the install files at the end of the nLite process. Once you got your cd made, most of them you won't notice in the Windows install process. "Vanilla" means Windows files from version before any Service Pack. For your chipset drivers, it depends on the sort of files you got at first.
  20. There must be some config to be done in your graphic card driver. Display Properties /Settings / Advanced...
  21. If you've been opening the case recently, recheck the IDE and power cables on the HDD (check IDE at both sides).
  22. Is the drive formatted FAT32 ?
  23. Then maybe IcemanND had the explanation. The option is "Components/ Operating System Options / Manual Install and Upgrade" You 'd have to redo the CD with a fresh set of XP files, this time not removing the option. Depending on the fact the cd was made by yourself or not and if it was made in one pass or more and if you have the last_session.ini and all addons and drivers used... it might be easy or not.
  24. So you tested your install CD on an other PC but maybe files needed to install your notebook are not on the cd and thus not on the (MD5 checked directory) hard disk. + I don't think Winnt32 is inteded to be started under Win98 (could be wrong here but I think I have a point in my first statement ).
  25. I've never opened an Philips notebook ( I can't even find a trace of them on Philips site ) but the HDD is usually (after the battery of course) the easiest part to remove in a laptop. It should be a matter of 2 or 3 screws. Search for a cylinder sign on the case. Good luck.
