  1. OK, change your subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 (I am assuming you are running Class C). Where is your DNS server actually running at? You may want to doublecheck that the gateway address is correct for your network.
  2. Active Directory survives on DNS, and your DNS needs work. So we'll start there. First, are you running a DNS server on that machine? If not, you need to start one or point your DNS at a DNS server. Second, DNS: 255.0.0.0? That is wrong. Your other two DNS entries are valid but both point at the local machine...you only need one of them if the DNS server is running locally.
  3. Samurize does everything I could ask for. For free. It is quite lean despite its extensive capabilities. Screenshots.
  4. Most people here use MS Virtual PC or VMWare.
  5. It is working fine for now so I'll just leave it alone. Plus I'll keep this topic bookmarked for reference in case the device breaks. Thanks for the info!
  6. I've never used that but there are several posts on this board that reveal it to be warez. We cannot help you with warez.
  7. There is a slight rattling sound inside my WRTSL54GS when I shake it gently. It doesn't sound like a loose screw; more like a component might be a little loose. I've never had this problem with any of my other solid state boxes. What is the most likely culprit? What is the most likely impact on the performance/lifespan of the device? (Assuming that I stop shaking it around )
  8. HD Tune is a good all-around HDD tool. It reports S.M.A.R.T., but not as elegantly as some other tools.
  9. *cough* Running a beta OS is risky *cough*
  10. Your post is pretty dramatic, but I agree with you to a point. I am a long time Opera fan and I've noticed that recent versions have slowdown issues. Seems to be poor connection or memory management.
  11. Run some S.M.A.R.T. tests and CHKDSK to ensure that the drive is OK. Personally, I don't trust a drive that gives me *any* trouble. They are just too inexpensive and easy to replace (by manufacturer, even) to store valuable data on one that might be going bad.

    Codec slipstreaming

Each version of windows comes with different codecs installed by default. Some of these codecs may be redundant for your version but that doesn't hurt anything. If people want stuff to be removed from the pack, such as the redundant MP3 and Indeo codecs, please post your request and the reason why you want it removed. More details at these links:http://www.jmcgowan.com/avicodecs.html http://www.codecguide.com/install_default_..._Windows_XP.htm http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992/ Angry? I am quite the nice guy, if you ask my mom Yes, wmfdist is useful for other players as well. Be careful if you are using nLite though. From the first post:

    Codec slipstreaming

Some codecs do get updated frequently. Does that mean you need to use the update? Rarely. The only time you need to update codecs are when a version comes out that fixes some sort of security problem or adds new features in such a way that the currently installed codec cannot play the latest version. These things rarely happen with codecs. If you want to update your codecs every time a new version comes out that has some sort of minor optimization or bugfix then codec slipstreaming is not for you. We don't talk about it here because this thread is about slipstreaming codecs and I have never read that CCCP supports slipstreaming. It is a good pack and you might want to use it if you prefer to update you codecs frequently. I agree...the HFSLIP community rules!

    Hello!

The programming forum has actually picked up speed noticeably this week. What a nice coincidence that another programmer joins the community right now Welcome

    Hi

Welcome! We've had need of SATCOM expertise before. Keep an eye on the networking forum...more questions that you could answer are bound to come up. Supreme Sponsor on your first day!? That certainly counts as contributing
  17. Just because you answered your own question doesn't mean that nobody else will ever need to find the answer you posted. You could post the answer to your second question as well
  18. I am confused about whether this poll is meant to find out about community security practices or if it is just for people to brag that they have admin rights somewhere... Or am I thinking too much?
  19. Sounds like these are just what you need then. Plus, even having just one of these lets you legitimately say "I'm Microsoft Certified!" But don't try to brag about these to your geek buddies...
  20. Good call. You can't get a 403 back unless the server was actually contacted. Could also be a local content-filtering proxy sending bad outbound packets/headers.
  21. Since you don't know what is causing the error you need to look through all three of those logs. You can make it easier by noting the time on your system before you reboot. When the system comes back up look for messages around that time. Look in all three logs.
  22. I don't have a copy of 2k3 handy to list the steps for you, but IE on 2k3 has an extra security feature. Can't remember what it is called. It always pops up automatically for me by default unless I change a setting. Try creating a new user and then use that user to access the net...hopefully you'll get the security prompt and that will help you find the option to add sites or disable it. Sorry for the cryptic advice
  23. Try turning off Autosave. I've heard that it can be responsible, or at least contribute to, this behavior.
  24. Not sure about 97, but on more recent versions you can just right-click on the slide and choose "Background" and change the setting there. Use "Apply", not "Apply to all."
