I check majorgeeks every day. Why do you say "other than Neowin"? It may be popular, but it is hardly a default. I've visited that site maybe a few times total. Why isn't MSFN.org on the list?

I'm still not sure you need to implement a software solution. It sounds like physical security is your first problem. Not sure if we are talking about humans at all here, but if they can access the PC want to turn it off then they can always hit the power button or unplug the machine unless you do something to stop that. Perhaps you just need to use a screensaver to lock the screen with a password after x minutes?

With physical access to the PC, the door is wide open to what he might be doing that you could not detect. And if he wired up your entire house then you are in the same boat. Rogue net admins are the worst. Sounds like there isn't much you can do from a technical perspective. Human engineering is your answer here. You mean Wireshark

I'm not sure exactly what the problem here is. Your first post sounded like you needed to use FTP to upload files or Ultr@VNC to admin the headless box. If xampp is running (you have to run it after it is installed) then you should be able to access Apache by visiting the IP address of that server with a web browser.

You are probably looking for something like http://www.2hotspot.com/ but it sounds like you are going to open up the corporate network at your job. Make sure it is OK for you to do that or you could get in lots of trouble.

Sounds like the best solution there is to put a sign on the monitor that says PLEASE DON'T TURN THIS OFF.

Yeah Sunbird is good stuff. There is an addon version that integrates with Thunderbird, too.

Setup the two devices to connect in Ad Hoc wireless mode instead of Infrastructure. Or install a wireless Access Point on. You problably have a spare port on that switch and you can find APs pretty cheap these days.

In a domain, Windows already has this ability. View a user's properties and go to the Account tab. About halfway down there is a "Logon Hours..." button which allows you to do this.

There are lots of ways to redirect. How are you trying to do it? SMF shouldn't be doing anything that would break redirects.

That was why I pointed you over there. To see that there are issues with making it the default shell without human intervention. Yeah. Litestep is essentially portable once installed. I haven't "installed" it in years; I just move the directory over to my new OS as appropriate and keep going. So you could just set it up the way you want, have that directory copied over during install and then perhaps also install a shell switcher or just put the shell switching link on the desktop.

That is HTML that should automatically redirect you. Perhaps it was sent with the wrong MIME type so it wasn't parsed properly by the browser.

I think the other services use that term for some IR systems on their tanks and boats. Pretty flexible acronym, really. Just means Foward Looking InfraRed so it can me applied to many things even though I think it was marketed under that name, perhaps as a brand, at one time.

Ya, but not Flash 9 or whatever it is that an increasing number of sites want me to install lately. Flash's ubiquity and rabidly upgrading fanbase scare me. Yeah. I'm paranoid. Call it the Battlestar Galactica defense. The video is fake. You can tell because the display says WHITE (indicating white=hot mode) and his arm is white (hot) along with other things that are hot like the people's hands and feet. So that gas is probably an aerosol in his obscured hand since the gas would be quite cold coming from the can. Plus it looks like the fingers on his right hand are colder than they should be when you compare them to the person that walks past. That could indicate that he was recently holding something in that hand that was cold...such as a can of aerosol. Or he just doesn't get good blood flow to his fingers. Who knew analyzing farts could be so much fun?

I'm not saying it is real or fake, but warm does not always = light. Many IR systems can switch from "white hot" to "black hot" depending on the target and surroundings to provide greater contrast or to highlight something. This becomes more difficult if IR crossover is an issue.
