  1. I think this book might interest you. It is a CCNA book and approaches many topics "the way Cisco sees it," but the writer, Todd Lammle, does a great job of laying out the basics in an interesting and humorous manner. This is the only geek book I have that actually made me laugh. I find that a good dose of humor helps me stay interested/focused
  2. Incorrect MIME type was my first idea but I thought IIS handled that stuff pretty well by default. Any time I've had MIME issues it has been on Apache. It worked by default in IIS5, right?
  3. RE: my comment about the other forum? Not a big deal, really. People do it. It isn't against any rules (here, at least). But I've seen some people express their unhappiness about people doing that. I think it lends to the idea that a person might be "using" the community instead of participating in it.Don't sweat it
  4. Maybe he used some canned reg tweaks.
  5. It is generally considered poor form to cross-post with different forums. I love The Google! First hit.
  6. Oooooooh, mama! Laser networking gets me all excited! "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have routers with frickin' laser beams attached to their ports!"
  7. Are you getting an error from the server or your browser? It can be tough to tell sometimes. Please tell us exactly what that error is and describe how it is presented to you. Have you tested the file to ensure that it works without the server as a variable?
  8. I never met a Maxtor that I liked. Had lots of good luck with WD; Seagate to a lesser extent.
  9. If it really is XML then you should open it with with a text editor/viewer or a web browser. Not excel. May require some nifty importing/exporting to get what you need. Sorry, I don't have ISA running right now to confirm what you want.
  10. Glad to hear you are having better luck now. You can find updated software at the vendor's website: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG602v2.asp Remember: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  11. What kind of connection are you using? Could be lots of things such as service provider maintenance or something in the environment disrupting wireless. The more you can tell us about your network the better we can help.
  12. Encrypted wireless with directional antennas should do the trick. Or you could get cosmic with something like microwave or having lines installed. An expensive good time!
  13. You could do a little dance...
  14. Good point. Could also be a loose connector or a short/break in his cabling somewhere. Those are a real pain to troubleshoot, but don't tend to be as intermittent as this.
  15. You are probably better off with the NetGear. I don't understand your most recent post/question. What can't finish?
  16. Very nice! Good use of color.
  17. That is one of the things I love about our community: very high signal to noise ratio.

    UT 2007?

No, I haven't played online much at all really. I played ONS a lot while I was in Korea. A buddy of mine lived down the hall so we had a powerline LAN going and murdered a good number of bots. Since I've been back to the states, we've played online a couple times (he is in another state) but life is just so busy these days. The point is that most of my recent shooter experience has been versus bots so I won't be joining you guys with your boasting and grandstanding I am just average these days...but I used to rip people up on the original Team Fortress!
  19. @DL: Slightly OT, but valuable discourse nonetheless. Not like we ran away with the thread and started telling dirty jokes. I've had similar luck as jcarle: wrt*+thibor is good stuff. But I've had other, less awesome consumer routers go to their knees quickly as crahak noted. But I don't run the same traffic as either of them. So....you know any dirty jokes? j/k

  23. That will display your LAN IP. This topic is about the WAN IP. That should net the proper DNS info as long as he isn't running a DNS server.
