  1. they put a hot plate under the keyboard so you can cook your meals on your laptop.
  2. You have to boot from the CD to format the hard drive, if you start the install from within an OS it will not allow you to format the booted partition.
  3. Finger works for those fans you cn get your finger to. Just press on the center hub, careful though some systems will shut down as a safety measure if they sense the fan(s) have stopped so don't have apps opened. For PSU fans I've used toothpicks, something NON conductive.
  4. well since you blacked out the bottom of regedit I can't tell for sure but my guess would be you are in HKEY_Local_User not HKEY_Local_MACHINE. As I have never seen explorer listed there in the Local Machine key, only in Local user.
  5. Launch regedit goto HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings in the right pane (sorry had the wrong one before) find the KEY calue select it and delete it.
  6. First thing that came to mind for me was the hard drive heads, but this is normally heard as the "Click-O-Death" and your machine won't boot cause the drive is dead. Could still be a fan issue, when the noise occurs try stopping each of the fans to see if that stops the noise. If that doesn't do it the only other moving parts in a normal system are drives.
  7. 40 of 69, some I knew but it didn't like how I type in the names
  8. you don't have to resintall, unless of course you want to start of fresh. You could just image the old drive to the new drive and then everything is the same only with more space.

    Word 2007

why word? openoffice is already available as an encapsulated package as part of the portableapps suite. http://portableapps.com/apps/office/openoffice_portable
  10. I'm not overly familiar with Toshibas (thank heaven) but the general procedure is to turn the machine on and while the machine does it's initial POST start up (before the OS loads) you press a certain key to get into the BIOS, usually F1, F2, or DEL. Once in the BIOS you will have to look through the various screens and settings for the Audio device and verify it is set to enabled.

    Lost Echo.

Search for a file on your machine named Echo, it may or may not have an extension. But will likely reside within one of the folders listed in the PATH variable.
  12. Why not open the PST in Outlook with no account configured? Then make the desired chnages/adjustments and then put it back on the machine or into the users Outlook profile. No outlook profile has to be configured to open a PST.
  13. Did you check in the BIOS and see if it is disabled there?
  14. If the audio device has a red x on it in the device manager then it has been disabled.
  15. how much RAM memory does the system have
  16. actually you don't HAVE to sysprep. But you do have to install the drivers. Replacing the existing mass stroage drivers with the new drivers usually works. Sometimes all you need to do is load them by preinstalling them all depends upon the hardware. If neither of these work then you get to use sysprep.
  17. Harmful to the computer, no. Using an illegal copy of windows has it's issues. During the install just delete andy partitions on the drive and reformat and Vista will be gone. No further discussion of r pirated software will be discussed. CLOSED.
  18. Remove the -quiet and if there is an error then you will see it.
  19. If you are not installing them manually before joining the machine to the domain then for some reason it appears the network drivers are not being installed until later in the setup process. How are you supplying drivers? Where are you supplying the driver path?
  20. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Ratings Delete the KEY setting in the left pane. System reset may be required.
  21. is the network initialized at that point? maybe the network drivers are not yet loaded. Press Shift-F10 at the error message, to open a command and see what ipconfig returns.
  22. I've never sen a BSOD because of an incompatible HAL, usually it just won't boot. If you are getting a BSOD, it is usually 0x0000007b bsod which has to do with the mass storage controller not the HAL.
  23. the exe likely expands ot into something else. Check out the software installation section of the unattended guide (http://unattended.msfn.org/) and see if you can determine which installer was used to create it.
  24. You need to preinstall the SATA drivers in your OS before moving the image from the IDE to the SATA drive.
  25. it will depend upon the installation file type, MSI, NSIS, etc.
