[Solved] Customize Toolbar doesn't "Stick" in Word 2003
submix8c replied to mitchsc's topic in Microsoft Office
Yes, you must always change and save the template (in this case normal.dot). AFAICR, use the "edit" on the FIRST post to change the Title of the thread. Try to use same Title with "Solved" so it doesn't alter the original Title much. HTH -

Trying to get a 7200.11 to work

Or a Windows Guest on a Linux Host? edit - more info - http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9449 How are you "accessing" it under Windows? -
http://msi.com/service/biosupdate/ Running BIOS Updates under Windows is never a good idea due to Processes Running (e.g. some Real-Time Antivirus Scanners) that cause failures (including corrupted BIOS Downloads). I would suggest to you that you NOT tell them you tried the "tricK" when you RMA it and ONLY tell them the Live Update messed it up (play "dumb"). If you tell them, they MAY give you a hard time.

Running Norton_Removal_Tool_9x.exe for Dummies: (it must be Version: 2007.2.0.14, MD5: 316B61CE6F827A8EE48944E5B076F37C, SHA-1: BC6F1C1EB7DCD4FA88A2F8C861A492F36A73C047, CRC32: 5FB68354, Digitally Signed by Symantec Corporation, with a VeriSign Class 3 Certificate valid from 10/30/2007 to 11/24/2010) 1 - Disconnect the machine physically from the internet. 2 - Run REGEDIT and delete (if exists) "HKLM\Software\SYMNRT" 3 - Reset the machine date to some day (e.g. 19) in January, 2009. 4 - Shut Down/Turn Off the machine. Note: This is an "insurance" step to enusre everything "sticks". 5 - Turn the machine on. 6 - Boot Win9x. Note: If it runs Scandisk or NDD, abort the scan or it'll find many "wrong dated" files. 7 - Once at the desktop, run Norton_Removal_Tool_9x.exe. 8 - Reset Date to Current. 9 - Repeat Steps #4 thru #6 Note: Ignore #6 Note as the Date has been Reset (#8). Done! Nothing will be installed. The Norton_Removal_Tool_9x.exe is stand-alone. It removes all Norton products except Norton CrashGuard, which it didn't touch. Additional Notes: Step #3 may be instead performed after #5 in the BIOS. ==== Does the above cover it? Odd that it doesn't self-clean (ref. "all.cpr") and has the NERVE to insert REG Keys/Values. Still, that file DOES have everything listed that it performs/cleans.

This "trick"? - http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0 And a post over here by you? http://www.overclock.net/t/1352278/bios-not-wotking-msi-p67s-c43-motherboard http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-BIOS-problems?pid=53781 Based on this one, I'd say you won't be back here - http://www.computerforum.com/219594-bios-not-booting.html Two different versions - http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67S-C43.html http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67S-C43--B3-.html BIOS is probably NOT compatible between the two, in particular (AFAICT), the latest B3 BIOS (v51/v53)is ONLY for the B3. WHICH BIOS did you use??? Nasty little thread here - http://www.overclock.net/t/1264587/msi-just-drop-the-bomb-dead Did you read this? - http://www.msi.com/service/biosupdate/ If the Boot Block in the BIOS is hosed, the BIOS is hosed - bad Boot Block = no Boot. What do you mean by that? Video Card "turns on"? I'm confused...edit - see above...

Looks like (nearly identical) to what's available on the FTP - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/ Linked to from here - https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?ct=us&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&docid=20080710133024EN For NOT from Service Provider - https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?ct=us&lg=en&product=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&docid=20080710133834EN You must pick a product... - same products though... and gives same link. There's a comment here as well (would prevent services/processes from running) - http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Can-t-remove-Norton/td-p/109722/page/2 Norton_Removal_Tool_9x.exe 2007.2.0.14 Here's something interesting though... Unpacked with WinRAR/UniExtract, it gives a file named "all.cpr" that lists everything that it deletes/services/etc-etc. Be aware that it appears that some fields are "<stringvalue>". Sadly, you would have to manually perform all of the operations within (stop services/processes/etc). edit - also found this with a different set of procedures and files (BAT/REG/Manual Delete) to "get rid of" Norton/Symantec (the links inside work as well) - http://filesharingtalk.com/threads/111599-Remove-Norton-*completely*-safely HTH

Capped (clipped, whatever) sound with Audigy sound card
submix8c replied to Phaenius's topic in Hardware Hangout
http://fx-rate.net/EUR/USD/ How do you pay your ISP bill? My, my, how we love to dance... Do you NOT have Radio Shack there? Seriously, there is NO WAY around paying roughly 3-euro for a can of ANY cleaner! Look here - EXCELLENT cleaners but EXPENSIVE! I revived a Fender Super-Twin Reverb Amp with this brand that had been in a fire - now THAT was nasty! Google yourself a bit of "crc electronic parts cleaner"... YOU WILL PAY! 90% Isopropyl (rubbing) Alcohol - 4-USD at any Pharmacy. Primary task is - CLEAN it and ensure RESIDUE is gone. CHEAPEST High-Alcohol content AND a CHEAP Paint Brush - It's the NASTY that has to go!!!! Or, follow jaclaz' recommendation - AFAICR, you spoke of purchasing ANOTHER Card and you complain about "deep pockets"? (WOwwwwwwww, dude! You CAN'T be married or have a girlfriend - only one moaner per household...) -
Even if "Original", the point remains WHICH version? You're referring to the COA Key "Sticker" when you speak of "serial #" I "assume"? An OEM PC (what you bought) should have that on it. To "hack" that properly to work will require some other resources not available on MSFN (a big no-no). There ARE threads on the subject on MSFN -and- information on the WWW provided you search hard enough. Hints (re - your "CD") - posts #25, #28, #32 (ignore "dross") As Fernando1 said, if it won't work with the Drivers integrated, it's perhaps not a "clean" "CD" and has some additional mods in it. I believe he ALSO said that you NEED to ensure that it has SP2/SP3 Integrated and Driver Integration would be unnecessary. I believe that's IF you don't have SATA controller listed (which you DO have listed). Now, going BACK to the Post #1 of this topic Are you following the Instructions TO THE LETTER? You might ALSO note the explanation of AHCI/RAID (SATA) vs IDE (PATA) in the BIOS (if changeable).Look here and pick your version of GX250. then look in "Advanced Features" (BIOS settings) - the SETUP portion indicates So this is (apparently) how you obtained the VEN_DEV info. Now, go BACK (again) to Post#1 and select the CORRECT DriverSet - and notice that Dell has a slew of Drivers listed here -http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/optiplex-gx520 Finally, you're touching on a subject (the "no-no") that violates MSFN rules ("downloaded"). We CANNOT confirm/deny your "CD" accordingly. Be forewarned!

(heh-heh...) If it's Alcohol you want to use, why don't you get something with High Alcohol Content? Warning! Use first before consumption of remainder! -
Huh? Really? Hot dates? Ennyhoo, I appreciate the "hey, did it occur to you?" about using it because - I haven't used it for some time now. It appears that I'm running 9x sans-AV but using Outpost (the free one)...
-
@Andromeda43 - it's all good. It's the reason for using XP in VM. The Good? "XP Mode" is a free XP VHD to work on specific hardware - and Drivers are available within Win8. The Bad? The Software/Drives for that function appears to ONLY work for below Vista, so XP in VM it is... Semi-painless and free. After all, the need for a Vista Work-around was necessary (assume it's good for Win7/2k8?) as stated but Win8 is WAY too new. Possibly drivers will come out sooner or later for that particular function (OP said it didn't work on Win8).
-
Glad to be of help. And your deductive reasoning is very good, considering that I didn't detail the printer's "Network Share Name". Congratulations and more than likely this will help others. BTW, welcome to MSFN.
-
(I think you forgot to click the Attach button...) (edit - never mind - maybe it's my ISP lag...)
-
Misunderstanding on my part? You're referring to Windows 8?In my VM (XP) to the Network Printer (USB) the Port is Network Share Name for the Printer in question. So.... I'm confused that yours is LPT1. Is your Printer Shared via Network and basic functionality. If so, then we revert back to the "CD/DVD Printer" function, correct? How is your VM locally connected to the Windows8?

Are people's expectations of software too low?
submix8c replied to Windashnet's topic in General Discussion
EDIT (just to bump - REALLY!!!) Just had a close look at the GOOOOGLE I provided in my previous post! Have a look-see here (re - XRumer methodology) http://www.stopforumspam.com/ipcheck/49.145.23.80 Spammer User-ID found. Side note - exact same comment made on another website with a different back-link. Aren't spam prevention websites wonderful? -
I will NOT swear to this, having not tried it OR have Win8, BUT... It MIGHT be possible to run the EXE on your VM-XP instead. The EXE files USUALLY have the appropriate files embedded (and can be extracted by various means) BUT (generally) most Printer Driver EXE instructions say to Install BEFORE connecting the Hardware. AFAIKR, Older-Than-Win8 (less than Vista specifically) put a set of "Drivers For Network Installation" into "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers" - had to share it (AFAIKR) to get access to it (to install the Drivers for Network Printing). Worth a shot... and HTH
-
Care to read this? (re: Activation) Same concept, different methodology. If Drivers aren't present (if new MotherBoard) that will tend to complicate matters. Otherwise, you PROBABLY will be OK (but see above) but may need additional Drivers (NOT MotherBoard). HTH

submix8c replied to Windashnet's topic in General Discussion
Not really - notice that there's a link to... What??? Looks kind of "spammy" to me...Otherwise, I'm fine with the topic. Notice that was the ONLY comment I made? Otherwise, I wouldn't have said diddly. Now YOU enlighten ME! 1 - "Not interested in" - I'm a "helper" (i.e. "giver", not a "taker") 2 - "Posting negative comments" - Which ones? The ones correcting erroneous information? Google dyentrushhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XRumer My comment stands... -

NOW you see what we've all been going through - "dis-and/or-mis-and/or-lackof-information"... "Move that good connection to the Monitor Amp, would you? O crap! It's making NOISE now!" I rest my case Your Honor! (edit to fix descriptive example) -
"Recovery Media on USB"? NOW you say you HAVE no CD/DVD for it (you insisted you did before). This is NOT an "installable media". So... you DO potentially need to construct one AND need the key. Question - what happens when that USB fails? Hmmmm???? Start looking for some paddles...
