You missed the part about Mozilla and JRE6 u37/u38, didn't you? PLEASE read the links I gave - "Erring on the side of caution"... What is a Java Applet. Also here and here If you RUN an infected one, THEN you "get bit". I thought I made that clear. AND if you look in the LINKS I gave there is ALSO something called "Click To Play" which can be Enabled in Firefox Configuration. Again, go ahead and disable - have fun playing Runescape. edit - and this will explain how this exploit "could" happen. edit2 - does this help a thirst for more information (re - settings and the Applet executions)? This whole "dire warning" thing is about simple common sense.
-
(heh-heh...) Looks like installing that will open the exploit as well. Guess I should disable my version-38 too? Yep, the "sky is falling".
-
Nope, the Version 7.x series and RUMORS of the 6.x series. This news is several days old with the same dire warning of "disable it". If you research it, it is a "hole" in a specific part of Java that most users don't install (search for "MBEANS") BUT may be affected by accessing a... SERVER that has it AND is "infected". edit - Here is the specific US-CERT KB just so you know that this "dire warning" is going viral and the "news" websites are misleading. The KB says absolutely nothing of anything other than Java 7.x. JMX docs (Java Management Extensions) also Netbeans (MBEANS-related). Here is a fairly clear definition of JMX and what its purpose is and who might have it installed. Bottom line - This has to do with the JDK on a Server Machine and Untrusted Applets downloaded and run on a Client Machine.

Yes, it is a practical solution. Epoxy doesn't come in jars. Autozone - Plastic Epoxy (2-part tube) $5.95 1/2 PartA, 1/2 PartB - the container has a "plunger" that allows both parts to be dispensed onto (e.g.) Cardboard and any stick (e.g. toothpick) can be used to stir well., at which time it can be carefully and evenly spread thus filling the imperfection and ensuring (to soothe your irrational paranoia) that there will be no "bare metal" (or whatever). Epoxy can be purchased at any Retail Auto Parts Outlet, Hardware Store, or even probably Kroger's. I do believe you can find it at (OMG!) Dollar Stores. I've used it many a time in Autobody Repair (yep, and I can paint them too). I've also used it to repair a (OMG!) Home Appliance (dryer). Your buckets of arguments still leak... Are you relation to Piers Morgan? -

Electronics Forum... Get some, mix it, smear flat with a piece of paper and let dry. DONE! Problem solved!Go ahead, keep it up, ignore practical solutions. BTW, yes, I DO know more than you, as well as most other long-time knowledgeable members. P.S. Liquid Fiberglass works the same way (non-conductive). -
NO!!! Your posts will be what's called "off-topic" since THAT OTHER topic was specifically about getting a LIST. First post in that topic asked Get my drift? You have already said you have installed at least one Update in THIS topic, so let's not cause disjointed conversations. Stay here...

BWAHAHAHAH!!! That's STILL correct even if UPSIDE-DOWN! 1-2-3-4 (pinouts.ru) 4-3-2-1 (yours upside-down) Mine are "sideways" - does that make them all "1-1-1-1" or would that be "4-4-4-4"? If a Commercial Jet flips over, does the Pilot/Copilot Seats magically "reverse" (or "mirror")? Care to play a game of Star Trek 3-D Chess with me? Have you ever dated Lindsay Lohan? [/snarks] Ennyhoo, you've been specifically answered. I'm betting it's a "coloration bubble" from when the plastic part of the component was molded over the contacts. Same thing can happen when Fiberglass is mixed and spread (check out some aftermarket fiberglass automobile products). Indeed (from another of your topics - CPU Upgrade) Move on, please... -
I want you to bear in mind that Patches will be applied to ONLY those items selected during Offive2000 Install. If you selected EVERYTHING ("Custom), it will ALL be up-to-date. AFAICR, if you ADD another item ("Add/Remove Programs" then "Change" then during O2K Change, you select "Custom"), you MAY have to rerun the Updates. Just look ate the ".log" files you SHOULD find for each Update you apply. It should tell you what it did/didn't apply. (I believe they should be in you TEMP folder within your "Documents And Settings/YourUserProfile/Local Settings" folder.) HTH... (and STAY in this Topic if any problems/concerns, please...)

You never said that you said this Now, look AGAIN at YOUR Picture - DID YOU SAY THE PIN# REVERSED? No! And THAT, sir is... IMPOSSIBLE (that they are reversed)! MAYBE you are CONFUSING the MOBO PimOut Pin#1-4 (which has NO BEARING on the Front Connector) - see attached (YOUR MOBO). See how the OTHER ONE is Pin#2??? 1-3-5-7-KEY and 2-4-6-8-NC - "A NOT= B" !!! Good Glory! SURELY you're not as dumb as a bag of rocks and this is some kind of joke!edit - Try disconnecting the Front Cable and do a Continuity Test between contact and the cable connector - bet you're WRONG! HUMOR ME!!! DO IT! ----------- Did you even THINK of something like this? Electronics Forum... Get some, mix it, smear flat with a piece of paper and let dry. DONE! Problem solved! The horse is dead! Long live the new horse! Move on to something useful and quit bugging people... -

DUDE, you are a JACKWAGON!!! THIS Image is from the LINK pinouts.ru - WHERE is it different from YOURS? LOOK AT YOUR FREAKIN' THUMBNAIL! COMPARE TO THE BELOW IMAGE! FOUR PINS ON THE BOTTOM! It is EXACTLY correct!!! DAY-UM!!!AS I SAID, It is IRRELEVANT as it's in the FACING!!! YOU tell ME how you can "short" a CABLE when you INSERT IT - NO FREAKIN' WAY! Why don't you do a CONTINUITY CHECK for GND if you wish OR with a Multimeter PROPERLY SET for +VDC (red="bare spot" black=metal casing) while ON to PROVE whether its "plastic" or not!!! It COULD be a "hole" in the FACING where the CONTACT is MOLDED INTO THE PLASTIC! AND IS IRRELEVANT!!! TEAR UP YOUR OLD CASE'S PORTS (it's empty, RIGHT?)!!! I refuse to tear up MINE!!! My last nerve!!! You just LOVE to argue, don't you??? Done!!! You'll not get ONE SINGLE RESPONSE from me... ANYWHERE!!! If I get chewed for being RUDE, then SO BE IT!!! EDIT!!! Starting to believe you're maybe one of the SPAMMERS! -

SATA to IDE adapters: which/what/why?
submix8c replied to dencorso's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
OK, I won't disagree with the rationale of keeping the topic where it is or the Summary (keeps relevant material up-front, like many other topics). HOWEVER, would it be possible to - 1 - Change the Topic's "sub"-description (for want of a better term) to indicate "Applies to any OS" or some such? 2 - Make it Stickied so it won't disappear "down the tubes"? 3 - Perhaps make a new "locked" Sticky topic in this sub-forum with a quick explanation of "what it be about" and put a link to THIS topic? After all, it DOES apply to Hardware (specifically HDD Connectivity) and seems rather "important". -

First, my apologies on the Pinout "on left/on right" - the LEFT one is the "cable" and the RIGHT one is the "jack" (on the PC). Your picture exactly matches. If you use a magnifying glass to look inside a cable connector (like I just did) you'll note that it's all plastic EXCEPT the four contacts. You picture indicates that there apparently IS a "defect" but it's in the FACE and will butt right up against the rear of the cable connector (which BETTER be plastic). I see no real problem here and doubt you could even cause a failure when plugging into it even if you tried as a cable slips INTO the jack and not ONTO it. SO... if it indeed HAS +5v at the "defect" you'll never be able to "short" anything anyway. Does this satisfy your concerns? -
Well, it's certainly nice that a List of Official Updates has been provided. It "might" be the same list as found in the ULZ listed here and WUD referenced here (jcarle utility). Care to confirm that? Not interested ATM since I haven't yet bothered with Test Installing Win7. (note - currently running REAL LOW on disk space...)

I know of NO "black coating" that you refer to. It's Plastic and adheres to the PINOUT link I gave. Did you LOOK at it? Does yours look like it? Are the Contacts (per the Pinout) STRAIGHT? Is the "Problem Area" you speak of going to "touch" the contacts in a cable plugged into it? Can you SPECIFY whether it's on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the 4-contact side? I don't know... WILL IT interfere or damage? YOU answer some straight-forward questions or you're on your own! You have a nasty habit of avoiding specifics and that cause US (all of us) to NOT want to assist! BE CLEAR! How about (maybe) you use PAINT or some-such and MAKE a picture? Four Contacts as seen on LEFT on the "Receptacle", Four Contacts as seen on the RIGHT on a Cable (see link given). Is the "piece of the black coating is worn and appears a clear or silver color" anywhere NEAR those Contacts? Is it REALLY a "worn" spot or is it part of PACKAGING that needs cleaned out? DISCONNECT from inside and check it! Please SPECIFY with some DETAILS DETAILS DETAILS! (IOW, A-N-S-W-E-R!) "Something doesn't look right... is there a problem with it?"... GET REAL! DUDE!!!! FOUR PAGES AND ONLY REAL PROBLEM IS HEADER FOR AUDIO! Rule #12 applies to individual POSTS as well! (sheesh!!! shouting now... wonder why?) -
Animation Software and Drawing Application for Win 9x?
submix8c replied to Bracamonte's topic in Windows 9x/ME
re - Adobe CS2 (and other Adobe software) - Better read this. Just signing up appears to NOT "give" it to you. You had to have a Legitimate Key given in the first place for the "special key". Of course, I could be wrong, but Forbes appears to have provided some insight. -
SATA to IDE adapters: which/what/why?

Hmmm - re - "where this thread should go"... IMHO, maybe in Hardware with a specific link given to it from the "Sticky Topics" in the Win9x Subforum. Would that suit? After all, it had interest to me in regards to "other than 9x" in the first place... -
Any way of using Windows 2000 with 11GB of RAM?
submix8c replied to Bakuchris's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Simply put... NO! Period! The Design does NOT allow it! ...and you MUST be referring to the "GA-MA785GMT-UD2H" (up to 16gb) that you listed here. Bet you can't get your Win98 to work on it either. Does your XP Home run with that much ? This MoBo was more designed for Windows 7 x64, don't you think? Memory Limits (AGAIN!)... MAYBE with some kind of "hack" using DataCenter but I seriously doubt it!!! The whole thing about >4GB is that it MUST be a 64-bit OS or it flat will NOT work! There WAS an IA64 version (Itanium). See this (PAE switch) and it shows SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS for each Win2000 Edition. P.S. Unless you have Software (other than the OS) that's capable of running above the limit (~4gb) it's kind of pointless, isn't it? -
First Sir Peter, go back to this thread and read my reply to your totally unnecessary post (could have been put in your post above). Second, read this and this and this and this and this. THIS also has some info in regards to updating O2K that's already installed. Note that there are POST-SP3 Updates as well (see this, you know - the one you "don't trust and want Hashes"). You should REALLY check your CD to see if it already HAS SR1 (yes, they do exist). Please stick to this topic for further assistance. I HATE skipping around!!!

1 - What exactly do you MEAN "from a different OS"? You mean from a "different WEBSITE"???2 - The file you downloaded (oddly) has an ADDITIONAL hex-0D0A (CR/LF or Carriage-Return + Line-Feed). Why that should be there, I have NO clue! Mine came DIRECTLY from MS in (downloaded in 2009 when it was still accessible). I believe that it has NO relevance (more than likely IGNORED) and those LAST TWO BYTES cold be DELETED in a Hex Editor and the Checksums will match! BTW, did you even use the Google Search I provided in your OTHER THREAD? The FIRST ONE in the Google Search Results was EXACTLY the one (dated May 2000). Couldn't you have stuck to that thread and posted your "results and question" in the SAME POST you just made over THERE? TWO posts, SAME SUBJECT! Stop Bumping Post Counts!!!! See rules #2a and #10. For anyone ELSE reading this, the INSTRUCTIONS to find a GOOD one (and there are BAD ones out there as well, or maybe REPACKS due to LANGUAGE - do NOT use REPACKS!) are this - Google "o2ksr1adl.exe" intitle:index.of Info on Changing Language.

(sigh...) Inside MINE is a "vertical" (since mine is obviously Up-Down instead of Left-Right - YOU GAVE NO PHOTO IMAGE) Black Strip with FOUR contacts and on the OPPOSITE side there are TWO "contacts" that MAY be (and obviously ARE) for the Shield/CaseGround. See this Pinout (both Male and Female) and this Mobo Pinout? I have NO CLUE what you're talking about... P-I-C-T-U-R-E!!! -

submix8c replied to Bakuchris's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
? If you already know, why are you asking? Looking for a way to "hack"? -
Found this and links are no longer valid. Other sources are not necessarily "legit", therefore unknown about MSI vs EXE. Interesting that you ask that question here as well.
