The given websites will have a server streaming the file directly into WMP. MS tossed the MediaGuide (free) and instituted Groove ($$$). Did you note that Groove is also available for non-Windows OS Media Players as well? Again, it was about the $. Good luck in your search for an alternative "free" media guide. So, you installed dotNETv1.1 (and the NDPSP.EXE, which was v1.1-SP1), which WAS correct. Now, the UR2 would be Emerald and SHOULD have been a little bit less than 30mb. The procedure you used was confirmed against my Dell MCE2005+UR2 DVD (it has extra "goodies" in the OEM folder). Anyhow, SP3 should have been the very next thing, aside from any dotNet updates. Currently do *not* have MCE2005 (Dell-branded) installed, so I'm afraid I won't be able to make heads/tails of your "problem". Directly download IE8 and install it as well. If you'd have gotten the Ven/Dev for it, we could have pointed you at it. AFAIK, I have all the "Live" drivers and may be able to pount you to where you can get them. Run from MS-DOS Prompt -or- from "Run" in Start Menu "REGEDIT.EXE". Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\PCI and you'll see the VEN/DEV and under that will be BUS/DEV with descriptions (etc).. VEN is the Vendor and DEV is the Device. Look for "PCI Multimedia card" and the corresponding VEN/DEV will (should) be the value above it. According to this, the VEN value should be 1102 (e.g. VEN_1102&DEV_nnnn). Confirmed (looked in a Creative INF) so we just need the DEV part. http://pcidatabase.com/vendors.php?sort=id HTH

Um... you might want to pop that in there. That's the Drivers for the PC, They aren't integrated into the Reinstall CD. If that board has SATA (instead of PATA/IDE) drives, chances are that those drivers are integrated. But not any of the others. And yes, that "PCI" one is part of the Modem (Conexant - see link below). Also not there's several variations of the ATI Video, and AFAICR, the original Built-In connector is still right there (under the COM port, to the right of the PRT port). Methinks you don't have "matching sets". OEM's will "strip" and/or modify the WIMs, leaving only the Edition they installed. The only difference between Retail and OEM is the EI.CFG, otherwise they're exactly the same. Enterprise is Volume License and the EI.CFG is also different. XP x64 is a subset of Server2k3 x64, the same as the 32-bit variation, so no, you're understanding is backwards. This is the case for all Server products - always "more", not "less". As for a "slim version image" somewhere, no, and even if there were we aren't allowed to link to it. Start from unaltered and nLite/slim it as you wish. Riptides were commonly used in HP OEM machines. You may or may not have a good driver for it, noting that several variations of Riptide existed. (Note - I have one or two of them myself.) They're not really that good. And that buzzing/crackling sound like it may be kaput, i.e. the outputs are bad and/or simply extremely dirty (riptides are old).

JFYI, the VHD has MS-specific OEMBIOS.xxx (and MS-key), the same as any other OEM and if the pseudo-BIOS doesn't contain the correct character string, you'll have to "mod" the BIOS. AFAICT, both VirtualBox and VMWare allow for that (somehow), basically "inserting" it in. I've read about this before. You'll have to "activate" it within 30 days (AFAIK). You can run XP-Mode in MS-VirtualPC also but the same applies. Windows7 has the "built-in" (the Pro/Ultimate?) but there's also the Windows VirtualPC that has that "built-in" to it as well (AFAICR) and I believe I tried it in my Win7 machine.
