Personally never tried it, but if you used nLite I know a few people used it without any issues. I would how ever take a fresh one and SP2 CD and rebuild. As stated I have not tried it, but if the PE build process went alright I would assume that the CD should work fine, note assume. Best way is to try it and see for yourself.

I tried looking into this also, as far as I got was to get it to copy to standard windows folders which were in a sourcedisknames section of another file, i believe it was shell.inf that had a fairly good set, but I have yet to find a way to make it copy files to directories other than those. like %SystemRoot%\programs etc. I too would love to learn more about this.

They are just re-applying an image to the machine, to the best of my knowledge of HP. Last time I had my hands on one it was PowerQuest, which is now Symantec. ?? I am confused as to what you are trying to do, if you are trying to do the whole install from PE only, that so far as i know won't work. Because the installation needs to have direct access to the disc among other things. So the reboot is needed at the end of the file copy phase.

You can build 2003 PE from 1.5 but no guarantees on if it will work, and it is unsupported by MS. If you look at the make inage command you can negate the version check, i think it is something like /ver but don't quote me as I have not tried it. The next version of PE will be out in 2005 with SP1 for 2003/XP64. Also did you use driverinst in 2004, and if so were there any errors?

I think to help you out we need more information, what do you mean by more suited for a client, I have not seen an issue with workstation versus server deployments with PE. What are you looking to inject into the build of PE?

For those who Pm'd and replied, a quick question, woud you rather have the Batch pull the files from the CD to the HD or leave them on the CD and start setup from the disk?

yes just copy ghost32.exe to your distro, and edit your menu to include it.

Are you sure that your diskpart script is running? try running it with @ECHO on and don't exit the script. If it is running have you included the "clean" command in your diskpart script? I remembe correctly CLEAN is what writes the disk to all Zero's and then rewrites a new MBR. Also maybe post the diskpart script for us to look at? HTH

I am missing what you are asking, do you want to build a winpe disk from 2003 or are you asking if you can run a server off of it? If the latter no you can't. Well easily anyways.

I am in the process of writing a new one and it has taken me about 3 days. I am looking for some volunteers to test it out. This is not complete!! I am just looking for some takers to test it out from winPE, as I am looking for some other inputs to this. I use Geoshell for a tskbar with Nu2Menu. I enjoy it, I have not tried it's start bar but as I said I do like its taskbar functions.

So far I have not seen much on PE 1.6 (2005) but i do know that you cannot build a Server 2003 SP1 PE based disk with 2004. As stated in the .chm, fyi it will not pass the media test in the initial build. //EDITTED FOR A TYPO// is now

This happened as soon as we loaded the OC.bat, also the custom background would also seem to disapear not completely but partialy wherever the menu was loaded. I wish I still had a build to show you. Anyhow attached is a text version of a sample that should work. Run it from a ram drive.

Which version of PE do you use it on, and what version of BB4win, we ran into severe issues with it, i.e. VBS scripting onload would crash the shell.

Ok quick synopsis; 1.)Nu2menu - comes with BPE, easy to configure many nice options, but not the shell you are looking for if you are trying to emulate the windows feel. As in it's lack of a taskbar clock etc. <I use this one> 2.) XPE - for BPE only, as is my understanding, loads alot slower than Nu2menu, but has that windows like feel, uses registry entries instead of XML file for menu layout. 3.) Explorer - adds a ton of files to your disk, makes it kinda bloated, in order to get it to work right it takes a TON of tweaking. 4.) BS Explorer - Written by a Russian gentleman, supposedly very nicely laid out, I used it a while ago so I am rusty but does emulate the Windows feel in PE fairly well without the added bloat and speed decrease. Please if someone has anymore info post it up. 5. Kinda) BB4Win <-- used to use it but don't recommend it.
