  1. Your network should have been mosly setup already because of the router, if all your pc's are in the same workgroup, assuming you don't use AD @ home, on the host, just right click the printer share, choose all applicable options. Now on the other machines, just go through the My Network icon to the pc with the printer on it, now you should see the shared folders, printers, etc. If you double click the printer it shoud ask you if you want to add this printer and then hit yes, this should automap the printer for you, I know it does for me.
  2. Most of the time I have to install printer drivers for the shared printer.
  3. This is my favorite.
  4. Good point Datalore, this looks like a typical Microsoft way to make "everyday users" have to keep these folders. As for thier actual use, that one is up in the air, one would assume that they wanted to keep them in the same dir's for somesort of refference or something along those lines.
  5. Very good info SCP, welcome.
  6. have you tried to build it from 2003 yet? I know that I can build from a XP SP2 RC1 disc with my 1.2 WinPE.
  7. So far as I know no, but in the release coming with SP2 it will have it built in.
  8. Add a RAM Drive This has to done before you run MKIMG.CMD. Download the Microsoft Ramdisk.sys Sample Driver for Windows 2000 (Q257405) and install it per the Q article instructions in a Windows XP VM or on your machine. Set the drive letter to B:. The maximum size is 30.9MB. NEW If you'd like a better alternative (and no error) try the AR RAM Disk or Christiaan Ghijselinck's RAMDisk (also based on the MS code). The basic instructions provided below should work with little modification for these products as well. Note: If you do not have at least 192MB RAM the RAMDisk will probably not be created at runtime. Copy RAMDRIVE.SYS to C:\WinPE\DRIVERS Copy RAMDISK.INF to C:\WinPE\INF Open Regedit and Export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Ramdisk to C:\WinPE\SFW\SCRIPTS\RAMDISK.REG Using Load Hive in RegEdit load the C:\WinPE\SetupReg.hiv as HKEY_USERS\SetupRegHiv Edit C:\WinPE\SFW\SCRIPTS\RAMDISK.REG search and replace HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM for HKEY_USERS\SetupRegHiv and save the file. Run REGEDIT /S C:\WinPE\SFW\SCRIPTS\RAMDISK.REG (You can delete RAMDISK.REG or keep it) Using Unload Hive in RegEdit unload HKEY_USERS\SetupRegHiv The RAMDISK settings should now be in C:\WinPE\SetupReg.hiv Unfortunately there seems to be an issue (for me anyway). I get Incorrect Function when I try to use the RAMDisk. In order to get around the problem do the following: Create a text file at C:\WinPE\SFW\SCRIPTS\N.TXT containing N and a Carriage Return/Line Feed Add the following line to the beginning of the STARTNET.CMD FORMAT B: /FS:NTFS /V:RAMDisk < \SFW\N.TXT >NUL Run C:\WinPE\BUILDIMG.CMD taken from: http://tjb.xgameservers.com/WindowsPE.html
  9. I know that Drive Image was able to do this because for a little while Compaq and HP, before the merger, were both using it. In different ways though. HP would give you the disc(s) which restored, and compaq used to hide it on thier HD's, and that is where, if you opened up the cd files, the install looked for it.

  11. I would wait for SP2 to get released before buying OPK cd, they are releasing a new version with it.
  12. Talk about Six degrees of seperation.
  13. Yeah mine too, I was like where did it all go?
  14. I say: d:\FORMAT.exe c: These problems are more than not caused by malware on your system I know of one other person who had a similiar problem and got so frustrated trying to find out what it was that she just formatted and started over. And in your case this sounds like a good option to me. I personally like to do that about once a month.
  15. NT 4 Machines at work, damned US government is so far behind!
  16. You can try manually entering the info in the .INF
  17. I am assuming this is not allowed on this board. That is just flat out cheating.
  18. That is a nice find, but my question is why not do it when you istall your OS?
  19. What kind of search? Is it saying it is looking for the folder or is it bringing up a search assistant in the left pane?
  20. Try using Diskpart to set the disk as active.
  21. Ok I found it in the registry, but when I disabled it it killed the V5 update site my installs failed. So if you want to disable it is in HKLM/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/SECURITY CENTER <-- this is the monitoring what it display in the security center. //EDIT// I changed them all from 0 to 1 but this also killed the installing of windows V5 updates, so my guess is for now just hide it always and see if Microsoft allows us to turn it off in RC2 or the RTM. Here is a pic of it in the registry:
  22. No problem man, I am working on slipping it in to my network share so I can build a new WinPE recovery CD. Spheris if you are reading this can you suggest to them to incorporate a way to turnoff the windows security alerts. I amcurrently looking for the Reg entry to try it that way.
  23. Just remember anything before 98 doesn't support USB, so you have to use serial or paralell for everything. Just FYI.
  24. So it worked I guess?
  25. nice find
