  1. http://www.halfdone.com/Development/UnknownDevices/ UnknownDevices - (Stable v1.2, Beta v1.4.18) www.driveragent.com This site can scan you computer for windows drivers. It checks whether you have a driver or not and if it's up to date. It's not free ($30/year for all your computers) but it does work. You can try it out to see if it can find your drivers before signing up. I signed up since I needed to find WinXP drivers for a laptop that only came with Vista drivers. Hope this info helps, SomeoneElse
  2. This is based on my Everex StepNote XT5000T Laptop (3 weeks old, re-imaged 2 nights ago, stock setup except for RAM) 4.6 - CPU (AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50) 5.2 - RAM (2GB DDR667 2x1GB) 4.8 - Graphics (Nvidia GeForce 7600 Go) 4.7 - Gaming (Nvidia GeForce 7600 Go) 4.4 - HDD (100GB Seagate 5400RPM) 4.4 = Overall Not bad for a $699 laptop
  3. www.newegg.com They usually have the best prices and ship quick. I usually use the standard three day shipping, but most stuff gets to me within a day or two. I've even gotten a few shipments in under 22 hours without spending extra for overnight. I've never had any issues aside from getting broken cases every now and then (which they took care of by sending me another one free of charge). I probably spend between $1,000 to $3,000 per month there (home/work). www.zipzoomfly.com I use them once in a while when they can beat newegg's prices plus they usually have free shipping. A few months ago I needed 8 500GB WD5000YS drives and zipzoomfly had newegg beat by $20 per drive. They also had newegg beat on some 2GB memory kits by $40 not too long ago (two months ago I think). www.frozencpu.com Cables and coolers. Price Shopping www.pricegrabber.com www.pricewatch.com
  4. You might want to try reading the forum rules, especially rule #1. MSFN Forum Rules
  5. Maybe you should look into AviSynth. AviSynth.org I usually use VirtualDub for cutting, then AviSynth for filtering/resizing, then pass the avisynth file into a video encoder for encoding (HC, MainConcept Mpeg Encoder, VirtualDub to Divx/Xvid, etc). You can even use AviSynth for cutting as well. The nice thing about AviSynth is that you can cut/filter/etc without having to create another temp file since the processing is done on the fly. Trust me, it very powerful and useful once you get into it Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  6. What kind of video editing are you planning on doing? If you're looking at just cutting (like commercials, etc) and cleaning (filters, resizing) then you can use Virtual Dub. It's free, easy, and has both 32bit and 64bit versions. VirtualDub.org Also, you can browse around the following sites for more video related (capture, edit, encode, author) tips: doom9.net VideoHelp.com Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  7. Open up a command prompt and type the following, then hit enter. systeminfo After a few seconds of processing you'll get a long list of system info. Look for "Original Install Date" it's the 10th item down. Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  8. You can have both (1.1 and 2.0) .NET Frameworks installed at the same time. Just download the installers from microsoft, then run them. That's all there is to it. Why do you have .NET Framework 2.0 Beta installed though? 2.0 became final in November 2005.
  9. Before you used fdisk and did a clean install, did you have a service pack installed with WinXP Pro? So, you did an install using WinXP Pro without Service Packs correct? If I remember corretly, WinXP Pro (No Service Packs) has a hdd limit of 137 GB. Your drives are much bigger than that. You need WinXP Pro with SP1 to over come the hdd limit. Do you happen to have a WinXP Pro disc with SP1 or SP2? If so, you can try making a BartPE disc to see if that can read the drives. Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  10. Asking for warez isn't allowed, try reading the rules next time. Forum Rules: 1. This is not a warez site! Links/Requests to warez and/or illegal material (porn, cracks, serials, etc..) will not be tolerated. Discussion of circumventing activation/timebombs/keygens or any other illegal activity will also not be tolerated. If you ignore any of the aforementioned you will receive a final warning. If you choose to continue, you will be banned without notice.
  11. ASUS doesn't make the Neo2 boards, MSI does. Is this the board you have? http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec....ition)&class=mb CPU • Supports Intel® Pentium 4 Northwood/Prescott/P4 Extreme Edition (Socket 478) processors. • FSB 400 (for Northwood only), 533, 800MHz • Supports up to 3.2GHz or higher speed As long as the cpu you get follows the specs above you should be fine. Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  12. Here's two ways: First, open the word doc. 1) Go to the file menu, choose save as, then choose html. That will create an html page and a directory containing any images from the word doc. So, just go into the newly created directory and all the images will be in there. 2) Or right click on the image in the word doc, then hit copy (that will put it on the clipboard), then paste it into a paint program and save. Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  13. You'll have to shop around till you find an older version of the remote that comes with the IR unit. I haven't seen them in stores, but you can still find them on Ebay. Here's a link to one of them: ebay - ps2 remote + ir unit SomeoneElse
  14. I don't have that camcorder, or any other camcorder actually, but according to the specs I found you should be able to get the video from it to the pc using firewire. RCA Capturing to RCA from you camcorder will lose quality. You need a capture card to capture it. Try to avoid this at all cost unless you have no other option. USB If you don't have a firewire port but have USB, then use USB. This will keep your video it its digital format which is better than capturing via RCA cables. Firewire If the computer supports firewire, use it. It's faster than USB 1.1 and will keep your video digital. Usually automatically supported in WinXP Pro (at least my ADVC100 is). As for software, there is a lot of free stuff out there, you just have to look. Some stuff is better, some isn't, you just have to know what you want. Here is a small list of what I use when working with video: Capture: WinDV (free), VirtualDub (free), Scenalyzer (paid) Editing: VirtualDub (free), AviSynth (free) Rendering: FreeEnc (free), MainConcept Mpeg (paid) DVD Buring: Tmpgenc DVD Author (paid) Check out these sites for video rated info: http://www.dvdrhelp.com http://www.doom9.org Also, make sure to have lots of space with working with the DV format. It takes about 25MB/sec so a 30 minute clip can take around 7GB of HDD space. Hope this helps, SomeoneElse
  15. If by see you mean download and install and you are not a beta tester or msdn member then there is no legal way. If you want a legal way to get vista you can buy an MSDN subscription. MSDN members can download and try Vista beta 1 legally. So if you really want to play with Vista Beta 1 legally then you're going to have to pay some money, somewhere between $700-$2800.
  16. Here's something I found using google ("split tv signal into 4 quarters"): http://kontek.net/davidwonn/4tvs.html They don't talk about what equipment it took, but mentioned that it was about $2000. I've never thought about doing this since most games I have are either one or two players (a few four player party games) and usually all the action is on one screen without splitting. For shooters, I won't play those on consoles, only on a PC and then each person has their own screen Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
  17. Here's the beta dvd sizes: Windows Vista Beta 1 x32 DVD 2.46 GB Windows Vista Beta 1 x64 DVD 1.73 GB Looks like the x32 build will probably need more hdd space than x64 build.
  18. Sounds like you got your hands on an MSDN Win2k3 disc. MSDN = Microsoft Developers Network How is it possible to fit three on one: When creating the image they use an "optimize" option which checks for duplicate files. So rather than writing three of the same file, it writes it once. CDimage and UltraISO are two programs I know of that support the optimize option.
  19. Because you coded your app in vb.net that means you have to have the .NET framework installed to run it. Just like if you code something in java you need the java runtime to run it. If you want your program to run without the whole framework then you'll have to package up the pieces of the framework that you do use. Last time I thought about trying to only provided the needed dlls it turns out that they came out to 10-14MB so I dropped that idea and just said get the whole framework at 21MB. Nowadays you can get the RyanVM .NET package which is the whole thing + updates at about 12MB. If you create an msi setup from visual studio it can determine what dll files your program will need packaged with it. As for Ram usage, that sounds about right for an average vb.net program with a GUI. You shouldn't worry to much about 16MB of usage since most people usually have between 256MB-1GB of ram. Even if you make a new vb.net or c# window application then hit run without adding any buttons or code it will still take about 16-17MB because of the overhead from the .NET framework.
  20. If you want to include the mdb with your program you should use an installer. I use Inno Setup for the projects I deploy. It's quick, easy, and free As for program setup: Is the path to the database hardcoded or can it be changed by the user? I'm just asking since not everyone has an F drive on their computer. If all you have is an exe and an mdb then I would keep them both together in one directory. Then use Application.StartupPath & "\db.mdb" as the first file check and if it doesn't exist then prompt the user to select where the database is at.
  21. What does the code look like that is calling the database? Do you check if the path exists before loading? Do you have a setting file that keeps the path? Did the file exist on the other computer you were trying to run it on? If you post part of your code that is giving you issues I might be able to help. I would do something like the following that way if the hardcoded path is not valid then the user will be prompted to enter a new one if they want to contine. 'hardcoded filename to load dim path as string = "f:\db.mdb" private sub btnConnect(sender as system.object, e as eventargs) if system.io.file.exists(path) = true then me.LoadDb(path) else dim filename as string = string.empty dim ofd as new openfiledialog with ofd .filter = "access mdb (*.mdb)|*.mdb" if .showdialog(me) = dialogresult.ok then filename = .filename end if end with ofd.dispose me.refresh if filename is string.empty then 'no valid filename selected, exit subroutine exit sub else 'valid filename was found so try loading it me.LoadDb (filename) end if end if end sub private sub LoadDb(path as string) 'if the path does not exist, then exit if system.io.file.exists(path) = false then exit sub 'if we get here then the path is valid 'connect to database 'grab data 'close connection end sub

  23. I don't know how much of difference swapping your original hdd with a new 160GB hdd will make since I don't know the specs of the original hdd. More ram will make your computer faster, especially 2GB
  24. Nope, they're totally different interfaces. If you want to get an S-ATA drive for your computer then you are also going to have to get an S-ATA Controller card.
