July 9, 200521 yr I don't know how much of difference swapping your original hdd with a new 160GB hdd will make since I don't know the specs of the original hdd.More ram will make your computer faster, especially 2GB
July 9, 200521 yr Go for the RAM,If this is your first computer, start with an ATA/133 hard drive. Yes this forum is excellent for slipping drivers and mod'ing the XP disc, but you will want to focus on other details first.A minimum spec for your hdd would be 7200 rpm and 4 MB buffer. Higher RPMs give better performance, larger caches only make a difference depending upon usage.Also, don't place your Hdd(s) and cd/dvd on the same cable. Your hdds go on the primary IDE channel and you optical devices go on the other.You might consider two hard drives, a 40-80 GB and a 120+ GB for everything else.
July 10, 200521 yr no i'm building my computer<{POST_SNAPBACK}>If you are building your computer, chances are your new motherboard will have SATA. Actually, your new motherboard will DEFINITELY have SATA.Get a SATA drive.
July 12, 200521 yr well u will hardly notice ne difference in ata and SATA hdd's with same speed say like 7200rpm so well...u can have ATA also.if u really wanna speed up PC get a SATA controller card as @someoneelse suggested and get SATA 10,000 rpm hdd or SATA-2 specification hdd
