  1. Yes. That and opening the "shading" section. UPDATE: not anymore after upgrading my driver from 261.19 to 320.92, which adds support for up to OpenGL 4.3. So Windows 2000 is cleared for the final 32bit version of Blender! except if you need to use your keyboard, as it only seems to respond to mouse input. is it using raw input much like PCem/86box which also have this problem?
  2. Windows 2000 exkernel v3.0e actually has all the necessary functions, but the lack of D2D1.dll is a real killer, as Direct2D needs Vista with Platform Update. I've managed to change incompatible NT6 functions to compatible NT5/6 functions by editing import tables using CFF Explorer, with varying success. It's apparently not supposed to work, as the functions' signatures usually don't match, and the replacement functions usually don't have the functionality of newer functions, but it worked for Blender 2.80 and Chess Titans from Vista build 5270 (versions from Vista 6002 and 7 SP1 didn't work). On XP/2003, you might be able to solve your advapi32 issues with xompie (keep in mind I've never used it or even looked at the wrapper DLLs) but D2D will be very difficult if not impossible. UPDATE: here's what to do if you want Sumatra PDF 3,2 on Windows XP (only tested on 2000 though): -download win2k exkernel v3.0e, open the executable in 7zip and extract msvcrt.dll from the vista folder (seems to rely only on XP functions) -place msvcrt in program folder, rename to "msvcr1.dll" then hex edit all instances of msvcrt in Sumatra exe to msvcr1 -copy all wined3d for 2000/XP files (contained in dx folder in exkernel exe) to the program folder. that or get d2d1.dll from Vista/7 and hex edit all instances of msvcrt in it to msvcr1 -it should work, as a similar procedure with windows 2000 works. But you will probably not have titled tabs or a toolbar.
  3. Reading facebook messages about where to get your fix of toilet paper is not covered by any of the above buzzwords. I think that consists of 60% of Windows 10 usage, whilst 8% is for real productivity, and 32% is being hampered by OS bugs or forced updates. What a contradictory statement. There is an illusion of choice of 80 000 models, but: -the only difference between laptop models may be the colour of the lid -or the only difference between models could be that one is intended for Walmart (model ID is suffixed "wm") whilst one is intended for Lidl (suffixed "ld") et cetera. Overall, there are probably no more than a few hundred hardware configurations at a few price points and certainly little choice in OS. NVIDIA mobile graphics drivers for RTX don't even support Windows 7 so you can forget it on the newest of those so-called 80 000 models. Why do mobile graphics have less legacy support than their desktop counterparts? So people are always being forced to run Windows 10, even if it's not automatically downloaded to 7 and 8.1 machines anymore. There were a few steps in between 1.0 and 10 that went wayyyy above 10, but never mind.
  4. It does when using fcwin2k/application verifier to tell Blender that it's running on Vista or above. If it's set to win2k/XP, the message doesn't appear and it runs.
  5. Yes, blackwingcat's extended core patches Windows 2000 Professional and the lesser servers to see up to 64 GB of RAM.
  6. Some interesting news regarding Blender 2.80, the last 32bit version. If you install extended kernel (v3.0e) with all Vista/7 functions enabled, it almost runs, but it doesn't due to the missing API import CreateEventExA. If you change it to CreateEventA, it runs. This procedure should also work with XP/2003 with xompie, but cannot confirm. It crashes for me when trying to render, but I believe that is due to my GPU not supporting OpenGL 3.3, not because of win2k.
  7. @blackwingcat made unofficial drivers that support up to the 980 Ti/TITAN X, and he uses them with a 780 Ti. @bluebolt uses a GTX 960 and I've seen a few reports elsewhere of up to 980 Ti being used with win2k, all with no complaints. So you should be good with a 750 Ti.
  8. Last I heard, ReactOS is similar to Server 2003 API-wise. So all of roytam1's browsers would be worth a try, especially NM28/Serpent 52.
  9. Windows 2000 Advanced/Datacenter Server, as well as other versions with extended core, can address up to 64 GB of RAM using Physical Address Extension. It really helps if you want to use multiple VMs simultaneously. XP SP2 and up cripple PAE so that Data Execution Prevention can be used, but not large amounts of RAM. That ~1 GB is reserved at the BIOS level, and it cuts into the available RAM because most consumer-grade 32bit OSes block the use of memory addresses above 4 GB. Non-crippled PAE pushes that area of reserved memory addresses above 4 GB.
  10. RT could also imply endorsement from the eponymous news network. I like Whistler, partially due to the Canadian connection and also because good quality branding has been prepared already.
  11. I also can't vote.
  12. I am also supporting Whistler now that my initial choice has been omitted.
  13. I think that this thread should be expanded to cover all kinds of peripherals. For example, I bought an EasyCAP SM-USB 007 composite video capture device to capture VHS content. It seems to be quite popular as it's sold on Amazon for a very low price. The drivers on the included CD are only for XP x86 and Vista x64 and up. But a small inf mod is all that is needed to get it working in Windows 2000 (and XP x64), to capture with something like VLC 3.0.x. Please note that the drivers from shady sites do not work for this purpose. Now back to printers. When we got an HP DeskJet 3632 a year ago, I was surprised to see that XP was still supported. Now it's no wonder that HP printers continue to work with such legacy OSes since apparently not much has changed between 1998, when the LaserJet 8500PS came out, and now. So theoretically you could you use Windows 3.0/3.1, which also have 8500PS drivers, to print with your new printer! I tried to test with the DeskJet but couldn't obtain its IP address (printer kept printing blank pages instead of the one with network info). I have an OfficeJet 6600 which is older (early 2010s) but the generic "HP OfficeJet" driver did not work with it. When the "LaunchCondition" table was dropped from the MSI of the 2015 driver package, I almost got the user-mode drivers installed in a wireless config but it ultimately failed (probably expecting XP's native WLAN client). Kodak Imaging picks up the TWAIN device but doesn't allow me to scan. I'm now betting on the Officejet 6500 official win2k driver from 2009 to work with my printer.
  14. Yes. I have done a few Server 2008 installs with Vista drivers on desktop hardware without issue.
  15. Then there were necrobumpers, but no forums,
  16. What threw me off was a later post by @Mathwiz has an icon for Moebius. I thought it originated during one of the earlier incidents but I can't find that post. So everything stands as before.
  17. Just voted. But I think @Mathwiz came up with Moebius (ex-Serpent 55), not Matt Tobin.
  18. Thanks for clearing the differences up. I suppose this happened because this is actually the proper HWID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B29&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller"
  19. I'm chalking up my problems with weather.cod.edu (as well as a couple other sites) to an issue with the new router here and Windows 2000 (NT 5.x all affected?). Maybe finding a newer TCP/IP driver from XP or 2003 will help (if compatible and XP/2003 has no issues of course). It appears I made a mistake with some reg entries that are supposed to optimize the TCP/IP stack yet cause some undesirable effects. So routers nor the browsers are to blame for this mishap. I fixed everything by uninstalling and reinstalling the TCP/IP stack.
  20. What is missing? If you install BWC's extended core v16a, you might get some/most/all of it to work.
  21. This seems to work best: https://github.com/tumagonx/xompie/ A wrapper that allows XP/2003 to run some newer NT6 stuff that BWC kernel for win2k can also run, I believe, like Blender 2.79b. There are a few others, like Dibya's ExtendedXP, One-Core-API, and BWC's Extend Kit for XP/2003 but they are buggy, not very advanced and/or contain non-redistributables.
  22. Is anyone able to load weather.cod.edu? I haven't been able to do so for several days in New Moon or Serpent (cancels as soon as I enter it in), yet it still works in a chromium browser on my smartphone. Even setting a Chrome 80/Win10 user agent doesn't change anything.
  23. Just replace riched20.dll with the version on your installation media.
  24. Do you have Update Rollup 1 or USP 5.1? That happens when trying to install the extended kernel with base SP4.
  25. Sounds good. >My only idea is perhaps updates were signed in some special way starting in 2016 so they can't be integrated into a SP2 ISO? I don't believe that there were any signing changes for Windows Updates until 2019 though (when they became SHA-2 only). The change to update rollups was only for W7 and up.
