  1. Agreed!!

  3. Oh I see.. its been a while since I've used ccleaner actually, it doesn't detect basilisk or new moon I suspect because they are not installed - rather standalone programs.
  4. If you toggle the following setting in about:config.. the browser should clear itself at shutdown. Those 4 are "false" by default. user_pref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps", true); user_pref("privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings", true); user_pref("privacy.sanitize.migrateFx3Prefs", true); user_pref("privacy.sanitize.sanitizeOnShutdown", true);
  5. Below are the setting (about:config) I currently use in my prefs file to disable Firefox telemetry, but I'm unclear on how to disable activity steams - any further information on this would be appreciated. Hope this helps and please feel free to let me know if I'm missing something or if something is incorrect user_pref("app.update.service.enabled", false); user_pref("app.update.staging.enabled", false); user_pref("browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl", "https://127.0.0.1"); user_pref("browser.selfsupport.enabled", false); user_pref("browser.selfsupport.url", ""); user_pref("browser.send_pings.require_same_host", true); user_pref("datareporting.healthreport.service.enabled", false); user_pref("datareporting.healthreport.uploadEnabled", false); user_pref("datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled", false); user_pref("devtools.webide.autoinstallADBHelper", false); user_pref("devtools.webide.autoinstallFxdtAdapters", false); user_pref("devtools.webide.enabled", false); user_pref("experiments.activeExperiment", false); user_pref("experiments.enabled", false); user_pref("experiments.manifest.uri", ""); user_pref("experiments.supported", false); user_pref("extensions.update.autoUpdateDefault", false); user_pref("extensions.update.enabled", false); user_pref("extensions.webservice.discoverURL", "http://127.0.0.1"); user_pref("network.allow-experiments", false); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.archive.enabled", false); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.cachedClientID", ""); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.reportingpolicy.firstRun", false); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.server", ""); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.unified", false); user_pref("toolkit.telemetry.unifiedIsOptIn", true);
  6. I appears, Basilisk 52 (latest update Sep 29) is being updated very regularly, rather, version 55 which was last updated Aug 28 to a lesser extent. I've been using 55 without any issues thus far, along with New Moon 28.
  7. I think I'm getting a [new to me] laptop this year with Win 10. From what I've read/heard, it seems like a resource/bandwidth hog, but looks like it will keep me busy regardless. Just seems (from what others say) It make things that should be, straightforward, difficult in comparison to XP; I will be skipping over 7 and 8 totally, and jumping right into 10, so this will be quite the learning curve for me - I used 98 (and 95 for that matter) right up until 207 until I even went to XP I have XP trimmed down to the bare-bones basics and will find it annoying to have so much running in the background.. maybe better from a security aspect, though seems not the case in the privacy department. Oh well.. here's to progress lol
  8. Thanks for letting us know roytam1...be safe!!
  9. Ah.. I see. Thanks guys :)
  10. Thus far.. this link is still working and reporting as up-to-date on my system - using 0mpam-fe.exe (from the link above), it updated with the green indicator - PC Status: Protected. Antimalware Client Version: 4.4.304.0 Engine Version: 1.1.15200.1 Antivirus definition: 1.275.932.0 Antispyware definition: 1.275.932. When clicking update directly within the program itself, it reads.. Virus and spyware definitions: Connection failed The virus and spyware definitions didn't update on 08/09/2018, 12:04 AM because of an Internet or network connectivity problem.
  11. Well, there aren't that many left that do support xp really. Older version of Chrome I guess (including other Chrome based browsers as well seem to use old versions). I would've thought they could've made at least up to 56 compatible before they jumped to quantum. Glad Roytam1 has taken on the task to keep these browser up to date for us. I intend to use xp so long as it still works until my hardware dies, mostly because I'm a rebel at heart.
  12. Thank you for the clarification Roytam1. That's great to know they are both receiving security updates. Both FF45ESR and Basilisk work well for me for the record. I'm glad I found this site and specifically your New Moon builds EDIT: Caught your posting Mathwiz just after I hit reply. Thanks! "supercalifragilistic-XP-paranoid" Lol :D
  13. Quick question.. Are the changes and fixes included into both browser builds (FF 45 Esr - Basilisk) - by that I mean are they equally secure in relation to the other, or is Basilisk superior in other aspects over FF 45; or are they just too different to compare? Also.. since FF52 will soon be done like dinner, will Roytam1's FF45 build be more secure that 52 would be going forward? Thanks you in advance!!
  14. I've already uninstalled it and started using roytam1's FireFox (Nightly) 45ESR SSE build, because I was looking for tracking protection without using any addons (Options -> Advanced -> General - Select [Use TenFourFox AdBlock] seeing it isn't available with Basilisk. Between that and New Moon.. I'm good to go :)

  16. Thanks for the links :) Yeah, its very basic with not much in the way of setting. And actually, on the UI there is a contact button that does nothing (when you click it, it takes you to a 404 page not found) Lol. Reading over those forums, might be better to keep looking.
  17. Hey all.. I Just wanted to say, I've been using Skyshield Antivirus; and 'so far - so good'. I saw it was updated reading another website (not sure if I'm allowed to link on here), Came up on softpedia under antivirus category as updated August 6 so I gave it a shot, and so far, it doesn't noticeably slow performance very much at all for (supposed) real-time monitoring. I say that, because, I'm unsure it isn't actually just scheduled scanning the computer. Simple interface though. I understand its mainly a reconfigured Clam Antivirus wearing a different suit. Anyone else using it? Know anything about it?
  18. Hello jaclaz.. I read over the links you posted here, and I guess I can see the difference now. I don't use Windows 8, so maybe I should just stick to what applies to my situation, apologies for that, and I should bow out of this section. Thanks again for the links and help.
  19. I've searched this thread and don't see it listed. http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/ClearType-Tuner-PowerToy.shtml Makes it a lot easier on the eyes.
  20. I assume, in this thread, people are inquiring about real-time antivirus software for XP. They slow they system down to the point of being a miserable experience, so I'm only using on demand scanning. Have MBAM installed (and set to start up automatically with Windows), seem to delay startup by 25 seconds (as apposed to set to not start with Windows - and the service disabled). Comodo Cleaning Essentials and https://www.avira.com/en/downloads PC Cleaner seems to work as well. Once the database downloaded, you should be able to copy the cleaner folder from your local temp folder and you have it forever (right click on the shortcut it creates and find target - copy folder and save elsewhere)
  21. I prefer Acronis True Image Home (Home is good enough for the average used, I think). I payed retail for it years ago, cost more now from what I see. Not sure about free software.
  22. I highly recommend when making changes on XP and using old software and making major changes without knowing how it will effect its stability, make sure you have backups of your previous functioning system so you can revert back if needed. I am using Acronis True Image Home 2012 which I purchased maybe 2011. Its been a lifesaver, because I've lost count of the times I've hosed my system, and have recovered it back. I'm not sure the backup utility in XP can save you as well. Thus far.. I've grabbed all but 1 update that came up with the internal updated system; all but 1 for framework 2 that I declined. It feels more secure now Lol EDIT: I actually have system restore disabled on my system.
  23. Hello guys.. Quick question here.. Do the following settings do anything in this browser? user_pref("privacy.trackingprotection.enabled", true); <--- Its my understanding that disconnect.me was involved somehow with FF. The setting seems to have true/falst regardless. user_pref("privacy.trackingprotection.pbmode.enabled", true); user_pref("privacy.resistFingerprinting", true); Thanks in advance :)
  24. Will explain what I did later, somehow, resolved the COM+ error, hasn't return at all today. This still is remaining.. The description for Event ID ( 54 ) in Source ( ADIHdAudAddService ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: \Device\0000006a. Not a big deal really. Good luck otherwise guys :)
