  1. can your windows wrappers launch a decent web browser for 9x
  2. I am pretty surprised that they fixed that. There must be enough customers still running XP embedded to warrant that,
  3. Ya OSR 2.1/5 was really solid. Micro 98 Lite is basically the same as OSR 2.1 without the bugs tho.
  4. Could be because the card isn't complying to ACPI. The only fix for that maybe is to not run ACPI. It's impossible to fix unless someone else has the same card and hardware as you and just happened to be able to fix it. But I would recommend turning off ACPI and see if that doesn't work.
  5. That maybe true but in order to sue for copyright infringement and win in the united states you have to be able to prove that you have suffered damages. GL with that. Thats the reason why it's never enforced for abandon-ware. . I originally wrote something longer but I deleted realizing that it would be a waste of time. But to add to that its even harder to sue and win in that scenario if you only link to software hosted on another site. Basically it's impossible and I am telling you that as a matter of fact. Rules are Rules tho.
  6. In ME you are losing booting to DOS instead of windows. Thats why it boots faster. It's not a good trade off imo. In 98s if you just want to use DOS you can use it. You don't need to restart in ms dos mode, which you can't do in ME anyways. without a custom boot loader. If you are gonna use a custom boot loader in ME to work around that than the same rules apply to doing the same in 98se. IMO the only reason to use 9x is because of DOS. ME cripples DOS support. If you don't care about having all the features on ME on 98 there is always 98 lite and the ability to use the 95 Shell which is so much faster on older hardware, all in all the support for 98se by programs such as 98lite, make it a better OS.
  7. welp since all of the stuff that the OP mentioned can be transplanted on 98se with 98se2me than 98se is clearly the best.
  8. Theres nothing you can do. Youtube don't use flash at all anymore. HTML 5 is forced and you cannot go around that, Worst part about this is not that flash no longer works its that there is generally not GPU or hardware acceleration for HTML, so even if you could get HTML 5 videos to play on 9x it would be unbearable unless u have a really fast CPU.
  9. That doesn't matter. That setting is just for the default init. Bios just scans for AGP vs before scanning the PCI bus for a display device. It makes no difference. In your circumstance. That setting is for tweaking boot speed. Flashing the BIOS wont help you because you are trying to run a unsupported CPU. You cannot run 133 FSB CPU no matter what bios you have. The only way you can program that kind of bois without booting is a EPROM flasher with like a Genius G540. It's difficult to give any unrelated opinions about graphics cards, which kind are better and for which purposes. Without knowing the purpose of this PC or what games you will be trying to play if any. Rage 128 will be fine for windows games up to DX7 and Dos games with VESA support. I beleive that its a good card because it has display modes like 320x480 or whatever I am not totally sure if thats the exact resolution but I know that it is a very low number that are needed for some really older games. That and dos games cannot utilize AGP so it doesn''t matter. For windows games AGP will be better. Personally I use a 3dfx voodo 3 in my machine that is similar to yours, It is only AGP in name but it doesn't support AGP specifications. But i like the 3dfx alot for other reasons. Mainy for the GLIDE API which is needed in a lot of older 3d titles. Depending on what games you are wanting the play the sound card is more of the issue i think because it is PCI. Really older games that run in dos prefer ISA cards, but sometimes you can still get the PCI cards to work. Newer games I think it's not an issue, it all depends.
  10. The cab fixes the issue for windows 7 machines that are configured for Microsoft Update not windows update. XP and windows 7 could always receive updates from normal windows update. XP uses microsoft update through a website which still is broke because the way It authenticates to it is totally different. So there fixed but not fixed.
  11. on a test VM, I tried a lot of things. I wasn't able to reinstall "Microsoft update" note: not windows update. Windows update works. Once I removed Microsoft update and tried to reconfigure it by clicking use microsoft update instead, I was presented with the usual page, however the page is broken. There is no EULA just a button to accept it, then when excepting it, I never get a pop up to install the active X or browser control. It then proceeds to tell me it's installed and then takes me back to the 1st page I clicked to install it. Endless loop.
  12. Ya you can run 1000MHZ + CPU on that board because you have the SE440BX-2 revision. Only with the right BIOS revision. Must be 100 MHZ fsb 440BX chipset is capable of running 133 but not on that board. Would have to be an ASUS or MSI 440bx or something.
  13. disable auto disconnect. net config server /autodisconnect:-1 reboot. Map your network drive. This is a perm fix for Mapped drives disconnecting. your issue is yes it is 20 max session but that doesn't mean 20 computers connected. A single computer can consume multiple sessions. Becasue windows 7 isn't flushing those connections it is building up to 20 and locking you out. So either flush the connections or Map the drives and turn auto disconnect off.
  14. Create a batch script .bat Paste this command. c:\windows\system32\NET.exe SESSION /DELETE /Y Schedule the task scheduler to run it once a day. This will disconnect all sessions and clean up the sessions on a regular basis. There maybe another way to just set the idle session for each connection to the computer. I would investigate that. So you can disconnect idle sessions to free up resources. The problem is not that its max 20 connections its that some of your computers are creating multiple sessions and its not disconnecting them,.
  15. Why have a requirement for new old stock. I bought tons of used parts off ebay and have been incredibly lucky in the past for everything except for ram.
  16. Ya gl it should probably work. I have a similar mobo its TYAN and with the latest BIOS is will take 800mhz 100 FSB it will not accept a 133FSB Coppermine at all. To get the 800mhz to work I had to use a 500MHZ and flash the bios. Then I had to change all the CLK jumpers. After that it would take the 800mhz.
  17. Ok so some bit of advice. 1st issue A lot of times you can upgrade a CPU in a mobo that doesn't support it. But. Most of the times that requires you to flash the BIOS and when flashing isn't enough setting the bus speed with jumpers and configuring things like memory timings. Here is your problem. You cannot get your mobo to post so you cannot flash the bios. I see nothing in your MOBO manual that would suggest that it will take a 133FSBmhz buz CPU. It looks like it will only take 100MHZ. 2nd issue Your board supoorts 100mhz ram and while I didn't check what density, just because something has 4 ram slots doesn't mean that it will accept 4 double sided sticks of ram. Next just becasue PC 133 should be backwards compatible it not always is. Becasue some Mobos are extremely picky about rams, Those ones are usually made by intel, TYAN, Supermicro, ITOX-DFI etc. You should take all the ram out and individually test trying to turn it on 1 stick at a time. 3. What you should do is go to ebay find a cheap slot 1 CPU that is 100% compatible with that MOBO. Take out the 733/133FSB one. Install like a 450/500 MHZ/100FSB See if you can get it to post then flash the BIOS. Once you flash the BIOS you can play with Bus speed jumpers and ram timeings to see if you can put your desired CPU in. Everything that I read said the board takes 100MHZ FSB CPU You want P13 or P16 BIOS Revision. Yea you can run like 1ghz 100FSB but only with the right BIOS. I havn't read anything that says you can run 133 fsb
  18. I just want to focus all my time into getting something better than what we have right now. What we were able to accomplish with KernelEX was amazing for the time. I want to make this thread to help share ideas on what is possible. I have a few ideas of my own that I plan on working on but I want to hear from others. I think trying to get newer versions of Opera is a waste of time because even the latest versions on XP seem to work pretty bad imo. Firefox is a total hog and just gets worst and worst the higher the version the more bloated and slow. But we need limited HTML 5 support at the very least. SSL and updated certs. We need script blocking and add blocking to help slow machines.
  19. Ya I have ran Vista, and honestly, Vista may feel smother than 7. But just my opinion I have also ran 2003 server X64 and it blew the hinges off Vista or 7. But like I was saying 2003/XP x64 isn't as mature which is why i don't run it, I deleted Telemetry from my 7 box thats a non issue. I have never felt forced with windows update on any version of windows I ever ran. Thats what disabling services and tweaking update settings are for.
  20. Absolutely not. I have a machine that is win 7x64 with a X3380 Xeon 3.17 Ghz QUAD core w/ 8GB ram and a Nivida GTX 960. Never has what you described happened to me ever. But the difference between your computer and mine is yours is a DELL. Mine? Is a SuperMicro home made. Ya and my comptuer is designed to be able to run that. But you could be right that it's just your hardware is not designed to run that and it should otherwise work for everyone.
  21. but y tho. This thread was never about installing IE 11 on 8.0 this thread is a face palm. I am willing to bet this thread is about, microsoft webserver reading the users browwser string and giving a defualt web page to anyone that has windows 8. I bet you I can change my browser string to windows 8 on my windows 98 computer and it will say the same d*** thing.
  22. seems like this topic is already answered. Display port is digital only, you cannot convert that to VGA with a simple adapter. Your adapters work fine on DVI-I because DVI-I has both digital and analog signals. Those DMS-59 Y adapters to VGA work fine because DMS-59 caries both analog and digital. There is no such thing as a 64bit graphics card. Unless you are talking about PCI-X which is a 64bit PCI slot that nobody uses or Nintendo 64. 64bit is simply the Driver that interfaces with the card and the OS. The same Card can work on 32bit with 32 bit driver. All of the computers you are talking about use PEG or PCI express Graphics. get a PCI-E X16 card and put it in there. Find one that has Dual DVI-I or atelast one DVI-I since you are using analog monitors. Stay away from HDMI ports on cards since you can't use that with your set up.
  23. try installing it in a VM, to see if it just doesn't like your computer. Buffer error sounds like it's trying to read your CD rom drive. You can try using something like VCD virtual Clone drive and make an ISO image of the CD? Mount the ISO in VCD. You cannot fully install the program so that it doesn't need the CD?
