I'm downloading the game to just test it for you. What trouble shooting steps have you done if any? I heard there are 3 differn't versions of the game. 1 of them is a DOS version. Have you tried setting your resolution to 640x480 before you run the game,? Have you tried deleting the game and registry keys and reinstalling? Have you tried editing the games config file. You asked about Config.sys and auto exec files but you are trying to run the game from windows? That seems to me that is irrelevant. Unless you are trying to play a dos game. If its a DOS version than you were checking your directx that would make no sense at all. And if thats the case have you tried running it from pure dos? There are so many things that you could be doing to trouble shoot the problem. Have you run a scandisk since your HDD crashed? Have you run memtest86 to check that your ram is still good? Have you tried down clocking your CPU in case the porblem is your computer is too fast? ?????? Have you checked that you have no hardware conflics on your audio card from the device manager? Why do you have so much stuff in your autoexc bat file. Have you tried backing up your files and just creating a blank new one? You can always put it back Would you mind posting your autoexc file for us so we can take a look at it and your config sys.

why do you want to use IE6. Better question is why do you want to get a virus, trojan, botnet, or something so bad that renders the computer unusable?

In the context of the discussion MS wont retaliate. There is absolutely no precedence for it. I have never seen a case ever of MS going after a single end user for something like this and it wont happen over XP. System Builder pack = OEM here we go around and around again. Everything I stated has been true. I know this because that used to be my job. It's is not illigal to keep an unused OEM license and CD aka a system builder pack. If it has not been used it can be sold with hardware. It doesn't have to be a motherboard it can be any hardware that is going into the system. Perhaps the new rules are different but the old rules which are the rules of XP are the same. "opening packaging refers to peeling off the sticker from its paper it came with." If the sticker has not been peeled off and the license has never been used it is "unused"

Exactly there is legality differentiating "OEM" keys and "Retail" keys. If it was a retail key you can just destroy the hardware and resell the license you own that out right. You can resell the OEM key provided that it appears to be unused and you can get around it with providing like a stick of ram (computer part) /w key and media. Otherwise the only way to resell the OEM key is to sell like the computer case with it. Note. You asked about the legality of it, weather or not you would be prosecuted for it at this stage 2018 is entirely different. I am not a lawyer and I am not giving you legal advice but its my opinion as a end user you probably wouldn't. I say this because there is no legal precedence for that. MS generally goes after business not end users.

theres no difference between a SP2 license and a vanilla license. A license for XP is a license for XP provided that it is not a blocked license due to piracy reporting. Service packs install or slipstream regardless. There is a difference in the media only by changing the pid in the setupp.ini you can convert like a retail disc to accept OEM keys or a OEM disc to accept retail keys etc.

Licenses like that are not transferable. If it was a new license unopened w/ unused sticker and meadia you could sell a OEM license with accompanying hardware only like a CPU or a motherboard or just a graphics card.. Provided that it is not past some sort of date that MS has set. But if its a old license no. You can only sell that license with the computer it is on. So if you still have the computer like even if it is broken you could technically sell the broken computer /w license.m ofcourse he person who buys such a thing could do anything they want with the lcense at that point but it is illegal to specify that. My guess is there is not a lot of demand for such a thing, and an XP license is worthless pretty much even if its a legit license. I cannot say why that is on here but I think most people just pirate XP at this point and don't care. lobo I only use 9x as a toy, I have a big boy system that I use normally. yea I tried it, it's utter crap on a pentium 3. Might work ok on fast computer with 9x. I have no use to run 9x on a later computer when I can run win 7 7 64.

100s sounded very reasonable to me, its probably an underestimate to be honest. I don't really know for certain but I know 100 sounds really low to me. But thats the point. PS I know you can instal higher version with kex betas but the point is the wiki says that its 1.6.0.31 not the other one that OP said it said. But I'm not gonna suggest to install higher version with kex to somone who can't get what pretty much just works tested by everyone who has tried.

You should go back to the page and carefully read. The last version is 1.6.0.31. 1.6.22 is too high of a version. You should also change your clock. Or roll your clock back to a reasonable date taht would be aplicable to the signature date. You need to select 2000 sp4 as the compatibility mode on the EXE file then you have to run it silently.(its both) Unless you already tried that. make sure you are using a full install package not the web version. Not that there is anything wrong with that but no one is going to be able cure symptomsbut you.. If you want to fix your problem than its up to you to trouble shoot it by reinstalling windows different, trying different drivers on fresh installs, installing updates like SP 3.5. trying 98se2me. Using different installer packages instead of stripped down or bugged ones. Figuring that out. Incrementally installing DX like try install DX 7 then 8 then 9 who knows on top of each other. What you have is a rare problem. It could be that it has to do with the way you have set up your computers that other people dont set it up like that thats why only you or very few have the issue.

well I have 98lite chubby + SP 3.5x + 98se2ME + RP9 and mine doesn't hang. I'm using Directx 8.1 btw But my setup is really different than yours. I am not using sleek. I am using ME shell + IE6 unofficial patched + RP9. I run a 3dfx Voodoo 3500 for glide gaming and I have a voodoo 2 in the same box for compatibility with some games like Shadow Warrior. SO i don't use DX9c. I think anygame that uses DX9c I can run on my XP computer that actually runs the DX9 games better than 98 does. I see no point in DX9 gaming on 98. I use the simple registry tweak from Speed Guide sguide_tweak_9x.zip btw. I dont use the full optimizer.

I suspect that it's bad drivers or a bad direct x install. Could be a multitude of things but I doubt that your card is bad. I have actually heard of compatibility issues with DX9c on windows 98 despite the fact that it runs. That could very well be your issue. If you are not playing DX 9 games or you Graphics card doesn't use Direct x 9 there is absolutely no reason to use dx9. Higher number version doesn't mean better when its irrelevant. I use DX 7 or 8 general rule of thumb unless ur card is dx9 and your games are dx9.

Before we blame the operating system (win95) or blame it's configuration. We should do a few things. Make sure VMware bridge protocol is binded to your host machine LAN adapter. 1. On the host machine/hypervisor run start run CMD type in the command prompt ipconfig /all Take note of your default gateway address, your DNS adress, and you iprange and subnet. 2. Edit the virtual machine adapter and change it from NAT to bridged. This should be in VMware settings or whatever for the VM you made up. 3 Boot up 95 and open network from the control panel. Find Item listed TCP/IP click properties. Specify and IP adress. if your host machine IP is like 192.168.1.2 as example. Make the adress 192.168.1.50 in the same IP range. Enter in the same subnet mask as the host machine. usually its like 255.255.255.0 example. Click DNS configuration tab. and enable DNS. type DNS as the host. Now add your DNS settings. that you got from IPconfig earlyer. 4. click OK. It may want you to insert the 95 CD or point it to the windows system folder whatever just dont overwrite newer files. 5. Reboot the computer. and try to ping google or use the internet. 6. Stop using internet explorer. Use Retrozilla link below. Your issues have nothing to do with IE but IE is terrible none the less. 7. if this worked than the problem is with your NAT configuration. If this didn't work than your problem is windows 95 config. 8. I 100% bet this is not a problem of 95 but a problem of how you configured your system.

Dead horse but also I don't think he is using the latest osr2.1 explorer. Can't find the update online but I know i have it on a CD somwhere. Its Explorer.exe shell update for computers without IE4. Doubt that would fix his problem but it might fix problems he doesn't know he has.

If i really need to web browse on my 9x box I just use realvnc/mirror driver to a VM i have setup on my main rig and map a share from my 98 to it. sad days but atleast it works well enough,

loblo I respect your views but I disagree that it worked better now. Flash has wide industry support hardware acceleration in gpus, and cpus. HTML5 does not then and does not now. HTML5 video is still in it's infancy compared to flash and has little to no hardware acceleration support especially on 98 lol

OP go to phils site and follow his instructions download his starter pack. If that doesn't work for you than maybe you do not have a soundblaster or your hardware is not correct. Being such a beginner I would really suggest you just make a boot disk floppy with phills files cuz i think there is a 100% chance you will not understand how to fix your windows startup. You could add a menu item to phills menu that loads no drivers and just dumps you into the comandprompt or simply add a menu item that loads no drivers and runs the win command if you want to just run windows normally. I was running it on a AMD hyperviser so thats irrelevant AMDs are not susceptible to meltdown, All of these detector programs don't check to see if your CPUs are vulnerable, becasue they are not made from a meltdown or spectre sample code. They only check to see if you are patched,. Which is irrelevant in some cases. For example P4s do not do side channel. That technology doesn't exist is core duos or pIIIs either.
