you mean WAN Miniport (IP).? open your registry editor to go to "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318}" look inside from 0000 to 000X (X is the number such as 9 or 10) registry keys. and look for "driver description or drivdesc or something like that". You will see WAN Miniport (IP) . In my computer, it locates in 0009 registry key, i delete 0009 and go back to device mananger and right click on troubled WAN miniport and choose driver update. Everything should be FINE now. About this problem, I will post another version of my script sometimes this week to correct this problem and to make everything goes smoothly. Keep checking back this thread for further update. thank you for letting me how everything works.

Hello everybody, Here is another updated version of my script. I strongly advise you to use this version instead of a previous version because it is better than the first. Instruction how to use 1-Download it in your computer. Open a "notepad" to rename it from fixnetwork.txt to fixnetwork.vbs, click it to run. Please only click it 1 time 2-After your computer restarts, windows will detect and automatically install driver for your network card. 3-Open "Device Manager", if you see any yellow mark next to "WAN Miniport" devices, right click on each of these and choose "Update Driver". Click "Next" and "Finish". Select No if computer asks you to restart. After doing that to all yellow mark devices, you will see some or all "WAN Miniport" devices disappears. Good News! 4-If one of these "wan miniport" devices still shows up there , open registry editor and locate this registry key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002bE10318} In this registry key, you will see other registry keys from 0000 to 0009 or more, go through each of these registry keys and look for "driverdesc" (driver description) to know which registry key number. For example, After you go through step 3, the only thing that has yellow mark is "WAN MINIPORT (IP), go to step 4, look into registry keys from 0000 to 0009 if you see "driverdesc" which says WAN MINIPORT (IP)". In my computer, this key is in 0009 registry key, all i do is highlight on 0009 and delete it. go back to "device manager" and use step 3 again. At this point, everything should be OK now 5-If you want to know where all "WAN Miniport" devices go. Click on "View" and choose "show hidden devices" in device manager. 6- Don't forget to test your internet connection or any program which uses your network adapter such as VMWARE. Hope it help. If you have any question or problem, please post it here. don't forget to let me know if it works in your computer. It runs fine in windows xp. thank you for using. Don't forget to backup everything FIRST. fixnetwork.txt

to resolve your problem, you need to go to below location hklm\system\currentcontrol\enum\class. in this class registry key which control all shown devices in Device Manager, go through each of them until you see "network adapter"and following registry keys such as 000, 001,002, and so on. Important: DO NOT delete the class itself. If you do, windows won't be able to install the driver for your device. Next you should delete these above registry number keys and restart computer. windows will detect and re-install device without any number next to your device. Next, you want to take care of "local area connection #" too. I don't remember where in this registry it stores. When i go home, i will have this information right away. Yes, the procedure can be lengthy and it works. NO, it is not that difficult if you know what you are doing. do you know why you have these numbers.? =========================== rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic #2 rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic #3 rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic #4 rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic #5 rtl8139/810x family fast ethernet nic #6 ========================== The answer is because of 000, 001, 002 registry keys under "network adapter" class. In fact, I experienced this kind of problem before and i'm tired of going through the whole processes again,i wrote my own scripts which deals this kind of problem. I found a way to fix this problem and wrote my script to take care that. How cool.? i will post my script tomorrow morning so that you can take care of this problem in 2 seconds. Yes, it is SAFE and FAST and it works. Of course, you or anybody can KEEP it for future reference as long as you don't tell anybody you wrote it or sell it to make money. Other than that, you are FREE to modify and learn my codes .

possibly memory or driver issue. why don't you use different memory stick to see if winxp installation goes smoothly OR use 1 RAM stick at the time to isolate bad RAM stick.?
-
try to use default setting in bios for memory. Just because you tested them on another computer, it doesn't mean they work.! remember you didn't test them with INSTALLATION, you tested THEM with winxp machine. It is a different right there. if i were you, i would look for another brand new memory. If you keep using the current ones, error message will pop up here and there and it will drives you nut.

xp is the best. Stick to XP your computer is pretty fast. I don't know you say it slow? did you check to see if you have windows prefetch running.
-
if you have autoreboot thing, try to go to safemode and uncheck automatically reboot from "computer properties". if it is a driver issue, download a new driver and uninstall old one and install the new one

the only easy way to fix corrupted windows xp services is to export the following registry keys from a good and working computer and apply them to your computer and restart computer. Here they are. 1-HKLM\system\currentcontrol\services 2-hklm\system\currentcontrol\root i don't remember the exact location but "root" and "services" which are the one you need. Just look under currentcontrol registry key in HKLM and you should see them Important Note: if you export above registry keys from another computer to yours, some of services from that computer will be IN your computer. the only way to take them OFF your computer is to use service manager and DELETE them OR manually delete them from service registry key. If you don't feel comfortable doing above suggestion, don't do it. if you have another computer, just install windows xp WITHOUT any programs installed in it EXCEPT windows xp and import above registry keys from this computer to yours and you don't have to worry about anything. hope it helps.

-
use repair windows installation to fix your boot problem

some programs are trying to access to this folder. Try to restart your computer and delete. if it doesn't work, try to delete it from command prompt or recovery console. It should do the job.

Anti-Virus to become obsolete.
member11 replied to rhythmnsmoke's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
if i were you, i would not bother with this kind of advanced AV stuff. it's totally BS and wastes your time. simply use your current AV if you think it's the best or SWITCH to nod32. -
instead of going through 8 mini dump files to find out what you are looking for, why don't you do the follow things: 1-put another memory stick in her PC after pulling old ones out to see if she has the same problem 2-if she has the same problem, tell her to uninstall any driver / software which she installed BEFORE experience this kind of problem. is she using any DVD encoder /decoder hardware driver.?

counterspy or MS beta is the BEST for the speed and detection. Webroot is also good but not FAST. btw, counterspy and MS beta use the same engine because MS bought a company who licenses counterspy company.

Internet connection is dead, not ISP side issue
member11 replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Windows XP
No problem.I'm glad everything is going well and reading 2 above MS mentioned articles will give you the answer you look for. I feel your pain about formating hard drive. I was in this kind of situation last month and i don't want to be in it again when you have zillion things installed in your computer. it's a pain to go through the same process again. It's not a fun thing to do. -

in order to fix your problem, you need to to do a search in microsoft support page for "reset TCP/IP" and "repair/ restore winsock" article by using command "netsh". these articles will help you fix your current problem. i'm at work and i downloaded and read these articles 2 days ago but i don't have them with me at this point. if you can't find it, post your post here and i will reply -
Anti-Virus to become obsolete.
member11 replied to rhythmnsmoke's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
i have 2 things to say 1-NOD32 is still considered the BEST overall AV out there including price and detecttion rate. 2-I knew 1 AV like the advertised one in this thread in the past. I asked this kind of question to AV company and they told me there is no way you can have AV without an update thing because if they do, we don't need to update our AV every week, do we.? AV is like adware program. You need to keep updating your software if you don't want any virus / adware in your computer. -
when i look under "network adapters" in devices manager with "a check on show hidden devices", i notice some of my WAN miniport are gone. i tried to re-install netword card but they are still gone. how do i get them back.? thank you

i'm thinking about creating my own windows xp drivers. It's like the one ryan is doing (putting all your drivers into a cab file and tell windows xp to look for it when performing unattended setup). I'm looking a guide how to do it so that i can install the drivers that i need on my computer. if you know a guide, pls share. thanks
