that's none of your business, LLXX. just kidding! just wanted to comment on the FMLFNS tool MDGx mentioned earlier, that's all nice idea, Andromeda43 to use DELTREE but I would first run SMARTDRV and then DELTREE as SMARTDRV speeds up deletion of files when using DELTREE after SMARTDRV is loaded. Using DELTREE to delete a lot of files on a slow HD takes a long time and loading SMARTDRV makes DELTREE remove files a lot faster.

recommended way to obtain M$ hotfixes
erpdude8 replied to sybesma's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
speaking of KB918899, there are the KB923996 hotfixes for XP SP2 and WS2K3 SP1 that fix the problems the WinXP SP2 and Win2003 SP1 versions of KB918899 cause. unlike MS revising the KB918899 patch for IE6 SP1, MS will NOT revise the KB918899 patches for XP SP2 and WS2K3 SP1 to include KB923996. -

the unofficial KB919587 patch and the official KB919587 hotfix are not yet posted at MDGx's web site and it has been almost 2 weeks. have you obtained the actual KB919587 hotfix yet? -

in what section of the MSBATCH.INF file does the ProductKey line have to be entered? be more specific, LLXX BTW - the MS Batch 98 tool used to create the MSBATCH.INF file is located on the \Tools\Reskit\Batch\ folder of the Win98 SE CD.

what kind of AC'97 sound drivers do your AMD boards use, Waywyrd? also, what does the error message say in Device Manager for the AC'97 audio driver? well the WinME sound drivers may work under Win98SE ONLY if they are WDM-based drivers. WDM-type drivers are drivers that work under Win98se/2000/ME/XP and they usually come in .SYS files and NOT .VXD files. ex. the DFI CM33-TL mobo on my XP computer that uses VIA VT8601 chipsets use Realtek AC'97 Audio driver [alcxwdm.sys].

I have made some mods with 4.72.3812.6nn of shell32.dll files in Resource Hacker that will either remove the "shortcut arrows" on shortcut icons or replaced the regular shortcut arrows with light arrows.I will have to assume that the SHELL32.DLL MS04-024 and MS04-037 security updates for NT4 also prevent the ability to change or remove the "shortcut arrows" on shortcut icons. This behavior began after installing the SHELL32.DLL MS02-014 security update for Win95/98/NT4. Much of this site goes against M$ EULA anyway - nLite, some unattended setup files, etc. Also, remember that M$ provides no support for Win9x anymore. If they were to complain about the contents of this site, the projects in these subforums definitely won't be their first target. I'd say http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=23719 is more vulnerable to legal threat....although a certain Mr. Loew might be a bit irritated by Enable48bitLBA I have to agree somewhat of what LLXX said. I dont have a problem with these "patched" files being redistributed as long as they work correctly and not cause crashes. besides, M$ ended ALL support for Win98FE/98SE/ME on July 11, 2006 and have left these OSes in the dust. ah forget what Mr. Loew thinks about Enable48bitLBA; if the unofficial ESDI_506.PDR patches work better than Loew's solutions, then they might be a nice alternative than having to pay for his software.

Unofficial Internet Explorer 6 SP1 Updater
erpdude8 replied to the_guy's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
you can "work around" this problem by deleting large amount of files from File Manager [winfile.exe]. File Manager deletes files faster than Windows Explorer and will not freeze your computer with IE6 installed. more accurately, I would NOT replace BROWSEUI.DLL with the IE 5.5 version. Better use version 5.50.4948.700 of the BROWSEUI.DLL file from IE 5.5 SP2 KB905915 patch to get the security benefits of the latest BROWSEUI.DLL file from IE 5.5 SP2 and use version 5.50.4807.2300 of BROWSELC.DLL file from IE 5.5 SP2. -
98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
ok. I was supposed to release beta 5 of the 98FE SP2 today but I had to hold it off so I can include the kernel32.dll v4.10.2226 file to fix the 2-4 GB Copy problem. I'll post it up later this week. -

erpdude8 replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
MDGx, I have some questions about the "MORESTAK: Windows 9x/ME 16-bit Programs Stack Memory Patch" listed on your page. How do you use it? Do I have to run MORESTAK.EXE in native DOS or while Win98/ME is running. Do I have to specify which 16bit EXE files (like WINFILE.EXE and PROGMAN.EXE) that needed to be patched by MORESTAK.EXE.? Documentation on using MORESTAK.EXE is still unclear and the utility is not in english. How do I really know MORESTAK.EXE did its job? -

what version of wextract.exe is included in the latest beta of Windows Vista? -
Media Player Classic download for Win2000/XP/2003 can also be used under WinNT4.

also, install and run the Organic Art - Microsoft Edition screen saver which does "work around" the problem. get it here: http://www.freesaver.com/organic.htm the empty taskbar icons are cleared when running the Organic Art screen saver and then coming out of it.

Does not inspire confidence eh, that is now a dead issue for ME as I'm getting over it. want more proof that FMLFNS for Win9xME's File Manager app is NOT no-nag shareware? Look at the FMLFNS.HLP file and in the "Why should I register and what do I get for it" section. quote- sorry eidenk but FMLFNS isnt free software. gotta pay for it if you continue to use it for more than a month.

Ms06-015 Patch-> win 2000 shell32.dll ?
erpdude8 replied to winxpi's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Quote from security bulletin MS06-015 about VERCLSID.EXE file: then DONT, winxpi! move on and forget about it. -
BUT the FMLFNS plugin for Win9xME's WINFILE app is shareware and not freeware. the FULL edition of FMLFNS can be ordered here: http://www.wincorner.com/home/orders.html does not cost much. pretty affordable. the WS_FTP LE 5.08 app is now weak. I dont use it anymore. there are other FTP tools (both freeware and shareware) that are better and more reliable than the old WS_FTP 5 applet.

thanks MDGx. what version of SHELL32.DLL file should he patch? the one from MS02-014/313829 (version 4.72.3812.600) for Win9x. or how about the SHELL32.DLL file version 4.72.3843.3100 (for NT4) from MS04-037/841356? or the SHELL32.DLL file version 4.72.3841.1100 (for NT4) from MS04-024/839645 even? I have confirmed that FMLFNS is NOT no-nag shareware (it WILL occasionally popup messages to register FMLFNS after more than 30 days of use at Windows 9xME startup). Anyway, a FULL version of FMLFNS (this one w/out the nag messages) can be ordered here: http://www.wincorner.com/home/orders.html Cost only $11 U.S. dollars or 10 European dollars. affordable

I looked up some articles on the 2GBcopy problem for Win95 and it is not just limited to Win95 kernel files. Win95's VREDIR.VXD files also have 2GB+ problem as noted in MS article 127852. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/127852/ also Win95's Explorer has a bug that reports 4GB of files as 0 bytes as noted in MS article 158045: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158045/ so yeah it's better not to even bother patching the kernel32.dll files for Win95. yup, one of them is the max. HD space (total and free space) which displays up to 1.99 GB in File Manager; noted in MS article 128794: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/128794/ This bug turns out to be a "cosmetic" bug. The WinNT4 version of File Manager does not have this problem as it does correctly display the total amount of HD space and free space beyond 1.99Gb. The NT 3.1x, 3.5x versions (and the Win3.x versions) of WinFile do have the problem. whoops, I take that back. FMLFNs and FMView are NOT no-nag shareware, MDGx. When I installed FMLFNs and after a month of continuous use, it WILL occasionally popup a message to register FMLFNs.

Maximus-Decim Native USB Drivers
erpdude8 replied to maximus-decim's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Apple iPOD's and their software are incompatible with Win98/ME. ipods require Win2000/XP and USB 2.0 ports. can your friend upgrade to Win98 2nd edition, Wijono? -
but at least i dont get the warning message when i just unplug the I/O Magic Datastation 2 usb storage device from an XP machine so it is safe to do that. If I'm in a hurry, I can unplug the Datastation 2 device under WinME w/out using Safe Removal icon and the warning message pops up. Here are the Mitsumi USB Floppy disk drivers for Win98 FE/SE for those who use I/O Magic Datastation 1 [iEFD7N1] or Datastation 2 [iEFDS2] devices: http://www.iomagic.com/Drivers/FloppyDrive.zip Win2000/ME/XP/2003/Vista should have built-in drivers for Mitsumi USB Floppy disk drives.

can you also add Wintop into the ME service pack? PROBLEMCHYLD made a suggestion to add Wintop into the 98se SP. I will add Wintop in the next beta of the 98fe SP.
-
you need to ask Gape, Marius '95. As Gape stated on his 98se SP page, it will only provide IE updates to embedded IE 5.0 originally included in Win98se. It will NOT provide IE updates for IE 5.5 & IE 6.0. quote from his page-

you might want to switch to another antivirus prog. I use older Mcafee antivirus tool and I dont have subscriptions to it. I just download Mcafee DAT files manually from the Mcafee enterprise downloads page and then install them. BTW - Tihiy's RPLite pack may require IE6 SP1 & WinME files when installing the Shell portion of RPlite. RPlite Shell wont work properly unless IE6 RTM or IE6 SP1 and the WinME files are installed.

Ms06-015 Patch-> win 2000 shell32.dll ?

Yes. It runs without problems after header patching. I'll write my researching later. what's the status on patching verclsid.exe, Tihiy?
