My invisible sig goes with my invisible Avatar. And that's a good idea... Dodo Birds! Each time I make a sig I like it for like 10 minutes, then I'm like, eh that's dumb.... let's see if I can do something else.... than the cycle repeats itself.

:-) Oh, Larry. LOL. All those PNG files take forever to load on my dial up connection. Took like 5 minutes just to view this thread. Mostly just farting around anyway with these sigs.

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
ZortMcGort11 replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Well, at this point, I've done a few scans through the "Last Versions" thread... collected most of the software titles and links. Went over all the links on page #1 numerous times, counting how many broken links are on there (lots of them). A lot of those anti-virus and security links are totally gone (Symantec tools for example), not to mention you can't purchase a lot of those $$$$ programs anymore. You'd have to track them down through different channels, used, or on Ebay. Good luck! Kinda pointless at this point.... as time marches on. I've tried to avoid any $$$ programs on my new list, as those types of things are the quickest to disappear. I'm going to keep checking this thread, because I've probably skipped some things. And whatever thread people post their software in, I'm going to try and keep my thread updated and fresh. Take it easy fellow Win9x users :-) What else was I goign to say... oh yeah. Some of the programs that were listed as ONGD ceased supporting Win9x. The link takes you to their website but the file you download no longer is supported on Win9x. As it stands, there's no place to find the previous version that worked on Win9x. Therefore, those programs are lost. Unless they show up someplace like Oldapps.com or somebody kept a copy :-/ -
Oh sorry :-) I just can't pick one. I'm fickle like that. Here's the green Krypton Egg Larry was talking about

LOL Thanks, Larry, for your semi-intelligent post :-) EDIT: I made a newer one, more appropriate for my name :-) It's Mr Astronaut Stuck in a Universe Bubble in Another Dimension.

From another article, I disagree. Who's to say that Windows 9 won't be completely Metro! Or some other terrible thing which isn't compatible with Firefox. Brilliant! http://www.techtimes.com/articles/4450/20140316/mozilla-pulls-plug-on-windows-8-metro-version-firefox-days-before-release-flat.htm
-
Being the cynic that I am, I'm wondering if Metro wasn't just one huge plot to destroy Mozilla. Or at the least, drop Firefox's market share even lower. Scorched earth policy . http://venturebeat.com/2014/03/15/mozilla-kills-metro-windows-8-firefox-plans-claims-interest-has-been-pretty-flat/ But wouldn't it be a blow to Firefox if their browser isn't supported? Last time I checked, Mozilla doesn't have a desktop operating system of their own. They have to rely on Windows. What if Windows 9 is incompatible too? LOL. Brilliant!

How do I recover files off NT formatted drive?

I don't have any spare power supply units. If that's all that's wrong with it, it could still be salvageable you think? -

The fans are the only things that do anything, all 3 are spinning. The hard drive light is a permanent yellow/amber color, never blinks. Turn the computer on, the fans come on, the hard drive light is a solid yellow... never blinks. Computer doesn't read the CD-Rom during boot process, I don't think. Well I can't open it anyway. -
Can an acer aspire one aoa150 run windows Me
ZortMcGort11 replied to Flasche's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Just out of curiosity... are you trying to install from the actual Windows ME CD, or some other way? Maybe a thread worth browsing: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/149743-question-about-using-a-sata-drive-with-windows-98se/ -

Does Windows finish installing? Or does it abort. What drivers exactly is it missing? I installed Windows ME onto some Dell Optiplex (can't remember the model) that came with XP originally. After Windows ME installed the video was VGA 16 colors 640x480, there was no sound, no modem detected, no nothing. I had to track down some older parts and make sure they had drivers. Eventually I was able to get most of it working. I don't know if that's quite like what your describing, because In my experience, Windows at least installed, albeit looking like something from the Windows 3.1 era. But to answer your question... I don't know :-) -

It may not be the capacitors after all. I think Charlotte is right. I started scraping them with my thumbnail and removed some of that built up "gunk." Underneath they didn't look that bad, nor were they bulging either (thank you Jaclaz for the pictures of bad capacitors). And no visible leakage at top or bottom. Sorry for giving you guys the wrong impression. I still suspect that either the motherboard, power supply, or CPU is ruined. Here are the reasons why: - when turning the computer on, there are no beeps or other booting noises which are part of the normal process - no error messages (just a total blank screen) when turning it on - I can't get into the BIOS at all, pressing the F1 - F10 keys does nothing (I tried hitting all sorts of keys out of desperation) - no signal to any monitors I've tried, they just power down automatically or go to sleep (at first I thought his monitor was broke) - I tried installing a different hard drive (with Windows 2000 on it) and got the same exact results as above. - when trying to read HIS hard drive using my Windows ME computer, the NTFS reader couldn't access the drive, although it did report its existence and gave me the size in GB I really wish his computer had a floppy drive.... since that is my preferred way of running computer diagnostics and fixing things when stuff goes haywire. His CD Rom drive has no little hole thingy in front to open it manually either. Otherwise, I would pop in my FreeDOS bootable CD, just to see if his computer would work :-( I also looked around for any unsecure cables, but everything appeared to be tightened. I think the USB hard drive reader is the best option at this point. It sounds like the easiest way to recover his files. I can simply plug it into my Ubuntu computer and hopefully that's all it will require. And by doing so, I can determine whether his hard drive is functional or not. -
great... i accidently deleted my horse sig... and lost my Doors one too. Oh shucks :-(

More pics. In the second picture, compare the capacitor at the top left corner and the ones to right of the CPU. The ones next to the CPU have a corroded hard material on top, while the rest are neat and shiny looking. Computer is an "Emachine T6410." -

How do I recover files off NT formatted drive?

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. I will probably get both the adapter and the external docking station. They both will be handy. -
Another one you might try, if you haven't already, is Lubuntu. It's a nice looking one, and it requires less resources than Ubuntu. I have tried Puppy a few times on live CD, and I have a machine with Ubuntu installed. If I had to pick I'd take Ubuntu over Puppy, just because I think configuring the options is more user friendly in Ubuntu. I had problems detecting my Lucent Cheetah modem under Puppy. Good luck.

Alright, thanks. I won't worry about it now :-)

Nice sigs... one of the designs reminds me of Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger album cover.

I was removing some drives today, and one of them had a black rubber "case" of some kind. Anyway, I couldn't squeeze the thing back into the slot, so I just cut it off. Will this affect the hard drive in some bad way? I mean, it still works. So, what's the use for them. Never seen one before. It was some old 40 Gig hard drive.
