  1. "Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows Embedded 8 Standard for x64 systems (KB3174060)" It came along with Windows Malware Removal Tool this patch Tuesday on my Windows 8. I had to uninstall it because it made IE10 almost unusable but... Windows Embedded 8 Standard? From when are they around and can somebody port their updates to Windows 8 as the Windows POSready 2009 ones to Windows XP (although the mentioned update makes me hesitating to do it anyway)?
  2. I suppose you mean Macrium Reflect Free (in which I trust).

    Undelete?

On Windows 8 you can easily disable this from C:>Properties>Tools>Disk optimization (Translated from greek, it may say "utilities" instead of "tools"). I suppose it is the same on Windows 7?
  4. Bad news guys, forget the whole thing. Windows XP Mode can't be activated on Windows OS that it is not meant to be installed on (I mean its VHD on a VM), the only way to use it is with VMlite XP Mode (in fact VMlite Workstation) which was a freeware once but now you must pay $199 in order to get it (they don't state it in their webpage but every internal or external link to the installation file just redirects to its homepage and in the "Buy" page you see the mentioned price for one license of the software).
  5. You can also cleanup WinSXS with Disk Cleaner, it is much easier I think. I have Windows 8 on my laptop and I made it look like Windows XP as much as possible with the Windows settings (Folder Options etc.). The only Apps I use is the Mail and the Reader for .pdf files. I replaced the missing Start Menu with Start Menu X by Ordinary Soft and I use Macrium Reflect to backup the Windows partition. Windows 8 are stable and my laptop works almost flawlessly (no BSODs, an application error from time to time). The good thing is that Windows 8 aren't contaminated with the "Feedback and Diagnostics" telemetry stuff (only some compatibility telemetry for upgrading to newer versions of Windows - I won't anyway). In overall I am fairly satisfied, yet I still have Windows XP SP3 on my old Pentium III desktop and I still believe that the Windows XP user eXPerience is incomparable.
  6. Continue reading on http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/forget-end-life-woes-windows-8-xp-mode/. Since this method relies on VirtualBox (probably VMware Player will also do the job) it must be useable on any Windows OS that these programs support.
  7. I think that it means your SATA HDD and not the CD drive... At some point it must access the hard drive and it probably can't.
  8. I don't think that Microsoft wants world domination, they just want more money in my opinion. The question is if they are "sharing" with (or selling to) their "telemetry" data with someone else and if yes who they are.
  9. I suppose you must turn your Microsoft user account into a local one (at least that's how the thing works on Windows 8/8.1).
  10. The simpler solution is to run regedit.exe, search for "kgb" and delete all the related entries.
  11. Maybe it is just the ID of the first delta? Interesting information about the windows updates anyway. By the way by updates we mean the .msu files?
  12. Oh, I thought that it was out of use until now, obviously I misunderstood.
  13. I had exactly the same problem with my Lenovo laptop. One day it stopped connecting to the wireless networks it could (barely) detect. I sent it for service and had the wireless network card changed, it cost me about 150 euros and nothing changed. Luckily I found a guy who explained to me that in fact the cables of the laptop's Wi-Fi antenna were to be blamed and the only thing that I could do is using a USB Wi-Fi adapter, which I did (that's how I'm connected to internet right now). Have a look in the device manager: if the wireless card is reported to be working OK then you probably have the same problem with me. You can also try to set your laptop very close to the wireless router and if the cables are the problem it will connect to the internet and work normally (the cables/Wi-Fi antenna aren't necessary for very small distances). If this is the case just buy a cheap USB wireless adapter and do your job with it as I did.
  14. Perhaps just changing the BIOS mode back to SATA before trying to install the driver may do the job.
  15. Well, I don't know if or how it is possible, I don't use it myself but I don't bother more about it.
  16. I'll stay with Windows 8 as far as I use my current laptop. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 twice and returned to Windows 8 because I didn't like what I saw - many features removed and a lot of problems and bugs. As for Windows 10 I prefer staying away from their spying as far as I can - until I have to buy a new laptop at least. As for my Pentium III old desktop with Windows XP it doesn't support Windows 10 anyway.
  17. Both Windows XP and Windows 8 are good operating systems. They are not supported anymore but this may be an advantage (not "Feedback and Diagnostics" telemetry stuff which is inherent in Windows 10 by the way). I would suggest Windows 8 for better compatibility with newer hardware but if you can find drivers for Windows XP you can go with it too.
  18. What is exactly your problem and why you want to do that?
  19. Out of topic, but what's going on with the GeForce cards? NVIDIA sold them to ASUS or something?
  20. If you search "android on windows" in Google you will find a plethora of ways to do it.
  21. Maybe you could try to contact them again?
  22. Are you sure that you want Microsoft programs from 2015 and later in your computer? (Think of Windows 10 to undersrand what I mean). Perhaps one day we will all be forced to use these products but let Windows XP in their innocence.
  23. I did my research and they indeed share non-personal data in order to "make money from their free products", as they say. Well, who can you trust today anyway? Are they the only ones that do it? At least they changed their privacy policy statement to inform their users about what they are doing... I am satisfied by the program and l will go on using it, for the time being at least. Anyway, thanks for the information.
  24. Well, I just don't really believe it.
