  2. You have to be kidding, right maLiCiOuSoPtIoNs? I get an AOL cd in the mail every 3 weeks and in my newspaper once a month. You can also pick one up at any computer store - usually by the checkout line. Just pop the cd in and install - the installation will detect you connect by LAN and there you go. LS_Dragons
  3. Yeah Drew - If you renamed the workgroup so that all are the same - it is most likely the XP firewall. When you re-installed XP, the firewall probably is on by default. Also - be sure to enable File & Printer Sharing on the re-install. One other thing - workgroup is the default - you might want to change all comuters on your network to a less comon workgroup name. 4. Miss Kelli - that was a BAD 1. LS
  5. WOW. Some people are getting a bit testy around here. Sounds like school has started back up and it is TEST time or something. LOLOLOLOL LS_Dragons
  6. A properly tuned Windows XP Pro is by far the best OS I have ever run. Win2K (pick your SP) just too limited multi-media-wise. But with any MS OS, it takes some time and effort to learn what you need to know to 'properly tune' your system. Guess that is why we spend so much time on MSFN and other boards. To learn! CHEERS MSFN and user communities!!!! LS_Dragons
  7. Have you checked here? http://www.hauppauge.com/xp/xpinstall.htm has step by step instruction for what you are trying to do. LS_Dragons
  8. And - if you need a good explanation of what the service is/does: Start Up List
  9. Probably need to uninstall and reinstall your virus program. LS_Dragons
  10. Here is mine. A new VS by ChaNinja and my own custom icon creations (still working on the rest of the icons).

  12. Actually, you can use the network setup wizard - and just tell it you connect through a LAN and get your IP address automatically. If you don't want to do that - just make sure all computers are in the same WORKGROUP and then anable file and printer sharing. Then share the drives and printer and ta-da --- you are done. 13. I know we have all used WINIPCFG on our previous Win98 systems - and are now aware of the IPCONFIG tool in XP that can be used from the COMMAND PROMPT in XP. Here is a link to the XP version of WINIPCFG. Enjoy: WNTIPCFG.EXE
  14. Sedative's link will show you tons of boot disks - but you will have to find the one that is right for you. There are several utilities out there that provide NTFS support from DOS - so that is what you really need. Try this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...G=Google+Search good luck - LS_Dragons
  15. Simple item to fix. You need to update your UXTHEME hack. There is an updated version at TGT Soft that you should install AFTER installing SP1. good luck LS_Dragons
  16. Roadrunner cable modem 216kbps down / 115 kbps up not bad since I live in a fairly rural area. LS_Dragons
  17. If you only have one language installed - you could still get the language bar by enabling (or even installing) speech recongnition - usually with Word 2002 (Office XP). You can remove as follows: Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panel. On the Languages tab, under Text services and input languages, click Details. Under Installed services, click Voice Recognition under the language you are using, and then click Remove. LS_Dragons
  18. You guys are not reading the question (except for AaronXP). I am asking what NEW TECHNOLOGIES or FEATURES you would like to see between NOW and LONGHORN. I do not really think MS will 'build a new OS' to release between now and when they release their next 'new OS. I am really looking for serious input. I will be presenting any of your serious thoughts (through the company I work for) to Microsoft - so give it some thought and maybe your wish list will be granted. Oh - and piaqt - I will make sure you get a free copy :-) LS
  19. Hey all: If you could talk to Microsoft about features/technologies that should be implemented into Windows XP in the 2 years between now and Longhorn.... WHAT WOULD YOU ASK FOR and WHY? Note - I plan to use your input so please be clear in what and why. Thanks All - LS_Dragons
  20. Check your BIOS and make sure it supports advaned power management. You may have to update the BIOS to get the advanced features. LS
  21. AaronXP -- TFT stand for Thin Film Transistor and is one way on creating the sc-called flat screen technology. It is the best type of LCD because it is Active Matrix vs. other types that can be Passive Matrix. Active provides better contrast and responsiveness. Actually, it starts to get confusing - because there is also a CRT technology called 'flat screen' which refers to a TUBE with the visible 'screen' being flat. More correctly called flat tube. 22. Many times, the "padlock" symbol will not appear until you enter the CHECKOUT phase - this is when you will be giving personal info. You can go to this point as is you would purchase then just close browser if you decide they aren't secure. Also - just like any purchase - check them out with BBB (better business bureau) etc to make sure they are legitimate. Finally, if you really want item, but decide not to trust the site's security - email them and ask for telephone number and complete transaction that way. LS
  23. Here is a suggestion: http://www.msfn.org/index.php?act=ST&f=50&...ecd9fb7665ae5ee LS_Dragons
  24. There are several possibilities - check the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q258034 http://search.support.microsoft.com/search...=false&numDays= good luck - LS_Dragons
  25. Best 'patch' is to dump that big ole piece-o-crap and use a real email application. Personally, I recomend Outlook - but some people think Eudora is the best. Seriously, take a close look at the 'send error' message and give us a clue to what it is saying. You have not provided enough info for us to help...... LS_Dragons
