  1. So..... whay don't you try it out and let us all know? w00t LS_Dragons
  2. Couple of questions. Are the systems that are having problems logging into a domain or is it just peer to peer internet sharing/file sharing that you are having problems with? LS_Dragons
  3. Are you on a network? Many hard disk access issues are caused on XP because of a win98 computer sharing a drive on the XP computer. Also - if you have office installed - try turning off the indexing feature. Here is how: go into Word 2002, bring up the Task Pane, switch to the "Search" Task Pane, and switch off Indexing Services under Search Options LS_Dragons
  4. Funny one MissKelliBad1. Where have you been lately - avoiding the board? or just working to much. lol LS_Dragons
  5. Thanks ALL for the kind wishes. Had a great birthday and looking forward to MANY more. LS w00t

  7. You can also use "WINDOWS KEY + D" which minimizes ALL windows. It is the same as the Show Desktop icon. LS
  8. ****! Thanks MSNWar -- now we ALL know everything we need regarding Hard Drive Health and Maintenance. Excellent summary. Now - how long before FthrJACK pipes in to elaborate and show off his great knowledge on the subject. :-) LS
  9. Elite - I agree with you.... a backup is much cheaper. However, as I did not have a backup (I was actually using that drive as a sort of back up - I didn't install ANYTHING to it) I figured a recovery program was worth it. *cough* By the way.... I did not pay $60 for it *cough* Hey MSNwar -- I noticed that stuff about the computer forensics. If you do it, I would be really interested in your experience. Sounde very interesting LS
  10. It was not only formatted - but XP was installed on top of it. This application does a deep scan on every sector on the drive and can piece the sectors that make up each file back together. Formatting does not destroy data - just re-initiates the file system - that data is still there. I have found a couple of items that when I tried to open - would fail. But, I recovered over 500 files. If only a few are 'bad' out of that many - I will take it. If I had used this application after only formatting, I would likely have had 100% success. I did not mention that before I used the application - I had started to re-use the drive, so I had saved new data to the drive. That messed up the success rate a bit. All in all - I am very pleased. 11. As many of us have done, I recently had a major UH-OH moment. As in UH-OH, where the hell did my "E" drive go. I tried to do a dual boot install of LINUX and ended up hosing the MBR of my C: drive - which held the database entries for my dynamic volume (the long gone E drive). Anyway, I finally gave up and just reformatted the E drive and actually ended up installing WinXP onto that drive (long story - but I had to do that to get it to format). Then deleted everything from E: so I had a blank 80GB drive. That 80GB drive was where I had EVERYTHING - My Docs, My Pictures, My Downloads, My P*RN :-) , My Everything. I came across a recommendation for FILERECOVERY for Windows - and decided to give it a shot. 4 hours later - ALL MY STUFF IS BACK. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! http://www.filerecovery.com/index.htm LS_Dragons
  12. OK - someone has to be a GEEK and point out that the BILL GATES III equals 666 if you add up the ASCII codes iswrong. Why do they have to switch from adding ASCII codes to adding 1+1+1 (not the ASCII code for either I or 1) to get there? Anyway - how people have the time to come up with this SH*T is the really funny part. LS_Dragons
  13. Pretty sure we had a thread about this here on MSFN not too long ago. Anyway, my 2 cents - YES - I think it is true, and makes sense as said -- get free beta testing from those who will likely be the first to adopt anyway. Why p*** those customers off with the finished product when you can let the m use it 'before' it is released and tell you their main complaints. LS
  14. Tris - I think Thanksgiving has something to do with a bunch of unsatisfied folks who were doing there best to get away from the King of England - ran into a bit of trouble - and were helped out by native Americans..... something like that anyway..... LS_Dragons PS - even if you are not celebrating this holiday - those of us who are will include this community in our THANKS Peace LS
  15. Good one rstryker -- Bailey's is excellent. Almost a shame to drink coffee without it. LS
  16. I have heard of Naked PC - but cannot remember where... Anyway - went ahead and signed up to give it a try LS
  17. No other newsletter readers out there? I was sort of hoping this thread would reveal sources I did not currently read. Come on guys and gals! LS_Dragons
  18. Dr. Pepper - even better if you can get it at a soda fountain. They always seem to make them heavy on the syrup at soda fountains with TONS of crushed ice. Nothing better! LS
  19. It is very easy for these people to generate POSITIVE feedback. I have read that many many many are eastern europe/russia criminal organizations that have enough people on the 'payroll' to "buy" then give good feedback - without ever having a real transaction. However - people selling real things for a fair price are probably OK - if feedback is ok. Like everything else - beware. Also- use a creit card - so you have recourse. Almost all legitimate sellers can take credit cards (or paypal). LS
  20. I came across this PC World listing of top Tech Newsletters. I personally receive 5 of these newsletters, and usually learn something from each issue. Check out the list here: http://www.pcworld.com/features/article/0,...857,pg,2,00.asp and then post your own favorites in this thread. The ones on this list that I get now are: LangaList Woody's Office Watch Woody's Windows Watch Anchor Desk ZDNet Tech Update Also recommended are: Mike's List Windows Update LS_Dragons
  21. Yeah - I know I can do that -- but I don't want to lose the XP install already there -- basically, I want to split the drive so I can set up a dual boot with Lindows. The drive is NTFS. If I have to get Partition Magic, I will - but was hoping I could do this without it. LS
