every time I've seen this issue it was leading up to a hard drive going bad... You might want to go here Maxtor.com and download the diags to check your drive.

Did you run a repair from the OS cd?

C-Girl, Please don't ever be afraid to speak up...For the most part everyone on this forum seems to be a pretty stand up bunch of guys (and gals)...and don't forget, you can always PM one of the Mods...I am a fairly new member but I understand that this forum is for us...to help each other. not quite correct Doggie...as long as a UDF reader is installed it will read any disk that has been written with Direct CD. not meaning to step on toes Bro...

There is no minimum. The system and OS wil run fine with nothing in startup, but I would leave PC Health and *statemgr.

I know that if the cd is formatted using Direct CD, part of the Roxio SW, it is possible.
