  1. Can you install those updates manually or does that not work either?
  2. Assuming that you are running XP, have you tried a System Restore?

Yeah, Sedative...I don't like McAfee either
  9. Be sure to post a followup if you don't mind. That way we'll all know how you did, what you did to fix it, and maybe help someone else in the process...
  10. One thing to check is whether the DVD movie installed PC Friendly DVD software. Now they have changed the name to Interactual DVD player. It's another DVD decodeer SW that lots of others have trouble with. Power DVD will tend to skip or stutter during playback if the other DVD SW is installed...
  11. You might also try a different cable.
  12. This is the best place to go for networking info that I have found. It covers all the MS OS's and how to network them together. It sounds like you will just have to go into the 2k systems and set your permissions for the other systems. This page will also have the instructions for that. It's the World of Windows Networking. Hope it helps... http://www.wown.com/

  16. Welcome...don't be afeered to get your feet wet...
  17. 1st it needs to be enabled in the bios under your proc info. After that the OS should see it and treat it as 2 procs...I've not seen an option other than in the bios to enable/disable that feature.
  18. From what I understand what you want is not possible. All the user settings are kept in a file locally on each system. You would have to recreate and duplicate each users settings on each machine individually to accomplish this and ensure that all files or apps that they work on are available on a common drive somewhere in the network. It can be done but not as easily as you are hoping I'm afraid...

    Hello

Guess I should say Hello. I've been hangin out for a short while now, just listening and tryin to keep my mouth shut. Easier to learn that way...for me anyway. But Regards to all in this forum. Hopefully I'll be able to lend a hand as well as learn from you guys.
  20. Busta Dunno if you've gotten it fixed yet or not but one thing I have done in the past is deleting the 2ndary IDE channel from Device Manager, then booting into the bios. From there you should be able to find the option to clear the MB's NVRAM, sometimes referred to as resetting the configuration data. Upon reboot it will reinstall the 2ndary channel, reidentify all it's HW, and *should* set the drive back to UDMA as long as it is turned on in the bios. This can and has been an issue in Windows since Win 2k but it seems to be happening even more now with higher speed drives.
  21. I've been an Nvidia fan for a long time but the new Radeons Rock! And regardless of the 3D Mark 2003 scores...from what I've seen using Unreal II as a test, the ATI graphics are just amazing both on the 9700's and 9800's.
  22. In Task Manager ensure that it is set to show one graph per cpu under "View/CPU History". If not it will only show one graph for both even if HT is enabled.
  23. Well, X, I've been using version 5 on XP Pro for about a year without problem...It isn't the Platinum version tho. It's the Basic OEM version, and has had the patches run from the Roxio site and (maybe I've just been lucky) it's worked fine. Now Franke, There are Upper and Lower filters in the registry that may be causing the drive not to show up under "My Computer". Randomly when the Roxio SW is removed they will disappear until the filters are deleted. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlset\Control\class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Both the upper and lower filters can safely be deleted, then restart. The optical drive/drives should reappear then. As always be careful in the registry, and good luck!
  24. I enjoyed both. Unreal II is a very cool game with great graphics...but my advice to others is don't waste money on it unless you have a very high end system. I was running an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro on one of the new Dell Dimension XPS systems at the time and it played very well.
