  1. Hey there, If you're looking for a program to convert PNG files to ICO or vice versa, check out AveIconifier from the creator of AveDesk. It's a great stand-alone app that does the job really well. Cheers!
  2. I don't think that they'll interfere with each other. Just disable Diskeeper's real-time scanning service and you should be fine.
  3. Hey there, What you assume is perfectly true. PerfectDisk manages the free space on your drive, while Diskeeper does not. I was working on a computer last year that (when I scanned it with PerfectDisk) had a largest contiguous free space of 75 MB while the drive still had 2GB of 20 free. With Diskeeper, all that would happen would be that the fragmented files would be put back together. With PerfectDisk, the files were put back together and put in order on the drive, leaving a nice big 2GB free at the end of the drive for new files. I would recommend PerfectDisk over Diskeeper anyday. Get the evaluation and see for yourself.
  4. I agree.. it could be some really nasty spyware that's tracking your mouse movements... eep...
  5. Very well put... Since Firefox is still relatively smaller in terms of usage worldwide, we've still got some time before people will try to see if they can find flaws in it. When they do, we'll probably start seeing the same types of updates from the Mozilla group. Oh.. and I like Opera better than both. Much cleaner interface with less bugs and wrinkles to sort out.
  6. 12 whole megs... *shudders*
  7. Yeah, I tried the beta of MSN7 and by golly! using an astounding 43MB of 512MB of RAM (at the time) for simple chatting! If that's what the final release is going to be like, I just might roll back to the much stripped down Windows Messenger... only 9 MB while logged in.
  8. MavereX, I think you need to relax... You're not going to convince anyone that XBox is better if you keep telling them that they're idiots for spending money on a system other than XBox. As for the XBox itself, yes it is a good console with many good features. BUT, it may not appeal to everyone. Some people actually prefer games like Zelda and the Final Fantasy series to Project Gotham and Rainbow 6. I personally prefer the PS2 to the XBox myself. I did own an XBox for a while, but then I returned it because I just couldn't get used to the controllers and the lack of games that appealed to me. So I returned it and ended up getting a PS2 with 3 years warranty (just in case, *touch wood*) and I still had money left over. The thing has never let me down yet, and it's much more portable than the XBox by any means. Money has different value to everyone. Some people prefer to spend it on their favorite console (whatever it may be). Others like to modify their cars. Others still, like to save it so that they can retire those extra few years early. If someone has earned their money fair and square, then they have every right to spend it as they choose. Oh and I must agree that MGS:2 is a really well made game, not just play for 30secs and then a long movie. Try playing through it on hardcore mode... not being detected by anyone, if you do it's game over, the moment that they see you (let me tell you, it's a helluva lot harder than any FPS game out there. The fact that it's such a different gameplay style (stealth vs shoot-em-up) makes it unique as well. Please respond, but do so in a polite manner with viable arguments (not just "I'm right, you're an id***").
  9. Hey there, My laptop is a Compaq Presario X1050CA Specs: Intel Pentium-M 1.4GHz CPU 1.25 GB PC2100 RAM (came with 2x256MB) 80GB 5400RPM HD (came with 40GB 4200RPM) 15.4" WXGA display 32MB ATI Radeon 9200 Mobility graphics card The base model cost about $2000 CAD with taxes (on sale for $1700 before). There was a problem with the original HD, and it took me a while to get HP to actually look at it... they told me that it's normal to take 25-30 seconds waking up from hibernation with 512MB... stupid tech support. They took it in in the end and ended up giving me a new drive. I've put another $400 into it for the RAM and HD over the past year. Hope that helps!
  10. Do you mean the disk cache? I've already got that set to zero. I've tried setting the memory cache to zero but that doesn't help either... Cache Options I'll play with kiosk mode tomorrow when I've got some time inbetween/in classes... Thanks for the help!
  11. <div id="console" style="position: absolute; left: 351px; bottom: 1px"> <span class="title">c o m m a n d l i n e : : . .</span><br /> <input type="text" class="textbox" onkeypress="if(event.keyCode==13) { ShellExJ(this.value); this.value='' }" /> </div> Hey there, Do you need any other type of code in the active desktop html file? I've tried inputting this, but I can't actually enter any commands from the box that appears. Thanks!
  12. Well, here's one! I've tried using SP2 on my laptop, and it causes everything to simply bog down like mad! I've tried installing SP2 by just about every means possible... WU, Network Installer, Slipstreaming, nLite, AutoPatcher, etc etc etc (I know the last three are pretty much the same). I also don't like the new wireless config at all... it's big and bulky... I like things small and lean. I might throw my old HD in my computer and give it another shot later on...
  13. Whoops... sorry... I misread your post... Ignore me... I tired...
  14. Just a note.... make sure that you replace your key with X's...
  15. Hey prathapml, I still can't find anything about that, even with Kiosk mode. Isn't Kiosk mode meant to be used for things like Internet Cafe's, so that the user has less control over what's going on? Cheers!
  16. MUAHAH!!! 7.23 Seconds! Score of 68.03! Beat that!
  17. Hey everyone, I've looked around on the opera forums and on google, but I can't seem to find this answer. Is there anyway of preventing Opera from storing the downloaded files that I simply want to open? If I wanted to save the files to my harddrive, I would do so, but when I want to simply open a file (say for example a PDF from a link in Acrobat, not the browser plugin), the file is stored on my hard drive instead of being stored in a temp directory or something of the sort. Thanks in advance!
  18. It says the VS style in his original post... As for the icons at the top of the screen, I'm guessing that it's ObjectDock which can be found here.
  19. Quick answer, you shouldn't have any problems re-assigning drive letters to your drives after you plug everything back in. If they're out of order, just put one or more of them to a letter that you don't use (like X, Y or Z) and then move the rest around as you need them).
  20. Hi there, This should really be under the Software discussion forum, but a moderator can move it if they please. As for your Outlook, all of your e-mails, contacts, and calendar items are stored in a single file. Simply copy the Outlook file itself to a CD or another media before you reformat. The default location for this file is C:\Documents and Settings\Nicholas\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook You can either paste that directory into a run box or enable the viewing of hidden files and browse your way there. Once you're at that directory, you will find a file named Outlook.pst. Simply copy this file for now to a CD (or something else, USB key for example). Reformat and reinstall Office 2003. When you're done, run Outlook and go through the process of setting up your e-mail accounts. Close Outlook and go to the above directory and delete the new Outlook.pst file and replace it with your old one. You should be good to go from here! If Outlook complains about it being a new file, simply point it in the direction of your old file and go on from there. I currently keep my Outlook files on a separate partition and I follow the above steps whenever I reformat my computer. I've kept the same contacts and calendar for about a year now. Hope this helps!
  21. I know I'm digging up an old topic here, but I just got my hard drive this past sunday, and WOW!!! This thing really kicks a**!! Despite the fact that it's a faster hard drive, I'm actually getting longer battery life since the hard drive knows to turn itself off when not in use. (some Hitachi drive S.M.A.R.T technology or somethin) The extra speed and storage makes a huge difference too... I have enough space to store my Acronis backup on the drive itself, as well as a couple of VMWare hard drives, and still have more than enough space to spare. Waking up from Hibernation takes no time at all now too! For anyone else in the general Vancouver area (hey, you never know), Atic computers has really great deals on computer parts. They're where I'm gonna be going to build my next desktop computer.
  22. Whoa dude... chill out a bit. There's no need to bash anyone or anything here. Thanks for letting us know that nothing would happen to either machine. Do you know what WindowsXP says about the PS2 or XBOX? And the PS2 doesn't break every year... I've had mine for about 3 now, and my friend has had his since they came out (and he's never had the laser replaced).
  23. 12.20 seconds... a score of 40 something
  24. Well, as someone who's been through what you're going through, matrix, I can say that I understand. My best suggestion would be to follow what everyone else has said, and make sure that you stay on top of things. I know it's cliche, and easier said than done, but in the end you'll end up doing less work to get to where you are. I'm in third year engineering physics at University of British Columbia, and let me tell you, it's not easy! I'm taking 7 courses, as well as juggling tutoring (for others, not me), a girlfriend, and trying to keep my place clean. All I can say is that you just gotta buckle down, hammer away at the work, and you'll be done before you know it. I can remember just two weeks ago, I had a lab that took about 20 hours total to do the analysis for (I'm not exaggerating, either). I had done a bit of it, but last sunday, I just sat at my desk from about 10:30 in the morning and just beat the crap out of my lab book. Another really good study tip: Reward yourself. The first thing that you should reward yourself with is food. Your brain needs energy to work, and without food, it has no energy. Second, after 45 mins of work, allow yourself 5 mins to do something else (like post here). A small break from your work will actually keep you more focused while you are working. Third, make sure that you get enough sleep. You're 14 and your body is growing. In order to grow, your body needs food and sleep. Be sure to get lots of both. If you have any questions about studying or math, physics, chemistry, etc, PM me. I'd be glad to let you know the things that I've learned from experience. Hang in there!
  25. Here's my desktop for now. Same old VS, different wall, more desklets! I can't wait for AveDesk 1.2!!! w00t!
