There are plenty of threads regarding network connectivity problems. When you come back to the computer, is it just the web browsers that can't connect? Can you log onto an IM network? Ping? Check under Device Manager to see if Windows is perhaps turning off the device. It should be under a tab called Power Management in the device properties.

Have you done the usual spyware and virus checks? Look at the malware section of the forums for more info and the latest programs.
  3. Yeah, the 5 year warranty is good... if you can keep your reciept for that long... I've gotta set up a system for storing those important little pieces of paper.
  4. ^^ lol... should I start some circular reasoning...? Same as Soulin... oh... and ripken204, you never said what style you used... classic or category.
  5. I don't quite think that's fair. Chirac was trying to campaign for a 'yes' vote, but it's the fact that the French are very patriotic and don't want to be controlled by another group. Like it or not, there is still quite a bit of resentment from WWII lying around in France, and that's not a situation where they got everyone else involved and then did the "I Surrender" routine, as you put it. If the States were right beside Germany back then, it would have been just as ugly. Oh... and without France as part of the EU, things would start to fall apart. France is a big hitter in the European economy and without it, the Euro would hold even less ground than it does now. The rest of the EU would eventually fall to shambles. jroc, it seems like you don't follow EU politics very much and only get what the American press feeds you. I know what that is, since I live in Vancouver, Canada, and the news feeds aren't much better here. But since the majority of my family is in Europe, I try to follow along as much as possible. Please don't make insults to the French. I know a lot of people who could make anti-American statements regarding the war in Iraq (myself included) and such, but don't because this isn't the place.
  6. Ok.... unless someone comes along with a big reason why I shouldn't get the 7200.8, I'll be heading over to NCIX after work today... Man... 5PM can't come soon enough...
  7. Are you referring to my question about the hard drives? That's a whole other topic!
  8. Yeah, it's about $100USD. Here's the 7200.8 model... for $5 more and I get the full 5 year warranty. Link Apparently this one seeks faster since the data density is higher. You haven't had any problems with reliablility? It's hard to find a good source on reliability since I've heard from lots of people that all of the big three are either great or horrible...
  9. They're supposed to be fighting... but it looks like they're... *ahem*... you figure it out.
  10. Hehe... sounds like a relationship I had a couple of months ago... the crappy part was that it was in the middle of exams... so little time!
  11. Wow... now there's an idea that I had never thought of...

    Bedroom Joke

Hehe... nice one... I'll have to tell that one to my friends...
  13. I just posted about this a couple of days ago... Link I'm still trying to get help with this though...
  14. I did read your post above, and I had tried setting up the system with BootItNG, but when I went to install the second OS, the first partition showed up still, listed as C:. Is there perhaps a guide where I can find more information on how to set this up properly? Thanks again for your help.
  15. Hey everyone, I need a quick bit of input for this clearance item that I saw today. I don't know how long this price will last, since it's a clearance item. Specs: Model Number:ST3200822A Capacity:200 GB Speed:7200 rpm Seek time:8.5 ms avg Interface:Ultra ATA/100 Link For $125 CAD, I'm guessing that this is a pretty good buy. I've been looking to upgrade my hard drive in my desktop for a while, and I've been waiting for a good deal. Any input would be appreciated. I'd like to buy this either later on today or tomorrow. Cheers!
  16. Hello hello!!! Welcome to MSFN! Hope that we can all help you in some way with the vast amount of information available here. Just be sure to use the Search function before you ask questions. Chances are that someone has asked the question that you have already. Cheers!
  17. Full Story (BBC News) Keep your eyes on this one. It'll have very interesting consequences for the world...
  18. It does sound like hardware error. Do you see your BIOS screens as before? Any settings in BIOS changed? Disconnect everything except the harddrive, 1 stick of RAM, 1 optical drive, and the keyboard and mouse (connected to PS/2 if possible). Can you boot into WinPE or Knoppix?
  19. Unmarried, no kids (not yet... gimme about 6 years...). It might also help to put people's ages in their replies to put things into perspective. I'm 20. Just got out of a 3 year relationship a couple of months ago... single life feels wierd again...
  20. I have mine set to Classic View for when I actually open it up. Most of the time though, the Control Panel is expanded from my start menu, with only the entries that I can't find elsewhere on my system. For example, I don't have the display properties in the control panel, since I can access them by right-clicking on the desktop.
  21. Interesting point. I can say from a personal viewpoint that the value of the things you own changes as you grow older (I'm 20 now). A few years ago, everything software-wise that I used was pirated. Since it was free, great. But now that I'm starting to earn my way through life, and I've come to realize how hard it is to make the money that I need to keep a roof over my head and food on my table (I have enough clothes to last me a while... ) I come to appreciate the work that those people who develop the software I use and appreciate the time and effort that they've put in so that they can provide for their families. I guess you could ultimately turn this into a question about personality. Are you the kind of person who cares more about yourself or more for others? If you only care about yourself, then you'd probably pirate more often than not. If you care about others, then you'd never pirate. Of course, there is a fairly large grey zone there, into which I fall somewhere. Like I said previously, I use pirated software to test it out and if I find enough of a use for it, I'll pay for it to support the people who wrote the code.
  22. Hehe... those Japanese always have dirty minds... Just look at the excessive cleavage in any japanese fighting game... I voted Monster movie pr0n.
  23. Hey there, Thanks for the replies. I'll look into some of the boot managers listed. I'm wondering about the second thing on my wishlist. Is there any way of hiding the partition for XP while I'm installing 2K3? Are any of these boot managers capable of setting up OS partition "groups"? i.e. When an OS is loaded, this group of partitions are visible. Thanks again for the help.
  24. Hey everyone, Don't know if this is in the right place... please move it if it isn't. I've got a quick question about dual booting. I've done some searching, but nothing's come up with what I'm looking for. I've got the trial version of Win2K3 and my copy of XP Pro. I'd like to set up my system so that when I choose my OS (either by the default boot.ini method or a boot loader) it loads into that OS and has the OS installation partition set as C:\ and the other system's partition is hidden. What would be the best way of going about this? Are there any good boot managers that will allow me to do this easily? I've tried installing XP first and then 2K3, but then the partitions don't show up as I'd like them... The reason I'd like to do this is because I'm thinking of setting up my system as a server (either with Win2K or Win2K3...) but also being able to play games in XP. When I install games in XP after the above mentioned, they try to put themselves on the wrong partition... Thanks for any help!
  25. I said 17+. While Microsoft definately got a better start with 2003-SP1, than XP did, there are still going to be small updates every now and then for issues that come up. SP1 (for 2003) added quite a few updates in itself, so we might not see any patches for a while... but they'll be around. You gotta remember, Windows is the biggest target for anyone trying to make an impact (albeit malicious).
