If I have read it correctly, since you don't need the 2nd reg then this should no longer be necessary: "REGEDIT /S quicklaunch2.reg"
-
This reg key is actually a link to the corresponding ControlSet00N key. One of these is used to boot your PC. The CLSID points to CDROM device. It might be more productive to say what hardware problem exists than just to delete a subkey. I don't know if you can actually delete the subkey but removing the device first might help. PS. In XP, there's no need to use Regedt32.exe any more. Regedit will do.

I'm afraid I disagree. It may save 20-30 MB of RAM but in my experience the speed up is not considerable. In fact bearly noticeable on systems with >256MB RAM. The main reason for trimming the services list is not speeding up but security. If you really want to examine your start up items (apart from services), use HijackThis and do a startup list. There are other things you can do, like adding RAM and clean out junk.

The question of reg tweak to speed up shutdown is hardly relevant to the original questions posted. This and the others have been posted many times before here and elsewhere and as I understand, the last system cache and disablepaging tweaks are not particularly helpful in Win XP machine. I've tried the disable paging tweak without noticing any obvious difference (with 1.25GB RAM). Since Ghost has been brought up, by coincidence, on another forum today, someone did an expt. and said that Ghost does not backup the page file. The Gho file size is the same with different page file settings. I've not have time to verify this.

They can be in one of the following places: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Internet Explorer\MenuExt HKCR\*\OpenWithList HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers HKCR\Directory\shell HKCR\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers HKCR\Drive\shell HKCR\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers HKCR\Folder\shell HKCR\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\ Sometimes as mentioned above you need to look up the CLSIDs.

=> you need to disable Simple File Sharing (in XP Pro) first; Then in the Sharing Tab > permissions allow the highlighted user only read/write If possible, remove Everyone and Full Control apart from yourself. There're more options in the folder Security tab but if configured correctly in the Sharing tab you won't need to modify anything there.

The DELL XP CD key used to install XP is different from that on the COA. Changing the key to the one on the COA might be a long term solution. Adding RAM should not lead to the need to reactive. The methods in the link may not work if you have a significant change in hardware.

You can also use Acronis True Image. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

This never works for me. Even if I'm logged on as the Administrator, I can never delete the other account that XP forced me to make during installation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can't do it in User Accounts but you can in Local Users and Groups.

Try using the default Luna theme and see.

sysprep with different chipsets?
Takeshi replied to Rob325's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It's possible to go from IDE to SCSI so perhaps also SATA, by manually adding the drivers in the [sysprepMassStorage] section in sysprep.inf. -
When to execute the vbs? And where to put it?

'Windows will adjust your resolution'-prompt
Takeshi replied to Mojo's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I think if you're testing uA in VMWare it wouldn't use higher res than 640x480 initially unless you install VMWare Tools in the uA. -

User Account without Password
Takeshi replied to Wesmosis's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=52164 If you don't use autologon then my method should work (not sure about if you use autologon). I haven't tried it. -
Mistake in the Unattended XP CD guide
Takeshi replied to ericreiss's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
The intention {Now click within the box where it says your filename] is to click the [browse] button and navigate to the SP2.exe file and the whole path will show up without you typing it. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=Reg&CODE=05 That is the account activation page! Any reports of errata should go here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=48249 -
I didn't think it was a virus before or after checking MD5: f4dfd83153e8c9088ae2db704107060d f4dfd83153e8c9088ae2db704107060d Many thanks to all of you who replied and esp. to midas. The MD5 is a good idea! => that's really what I wanted to know! What do I use to find out the CRC?

Aplication Install in First Boot
Takeshi replied to Leviathany2k's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Try adding /Passwordreq:no to the user user command something like: net user Leviathan /Passwordreq:no /add -
I've tried it on other XP systems with the same result. Other threads say it's safe to remove. Anyone know what it actually does?

There're two copies of taskman.exe, in WINDOWS and system32 directories. I tried running them from Run, cmd or direct clicking but nothing happens. Taskmgr.exe works normally. No virus found by F-Secure. What do they both do? http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...mb_tol_aubc.asp

Just what to be sure: Why is it necessary to use space after delims? Isn't delimis space or tab by default? thanks

The preferred WAP is not connected if it's not in range or if there's a problem with connecting to it. It can be a problem for some wireless network if SSID broadcast is disabled. The key renewal interval might also be a factor.

I've found that if the policy changes are made by other means (not via GP Editor) then the settings would not necessarily show up there. So it's worth doing the same again in GP editor just to make sure the restriction is lifted. The entries are stored in this reg key so it's worth checking this also: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;283084
