  1. When I ran this vbs I got an error saying "Permission denied". This is what I would expect from my experience with the Temp Int Files folder. Perhaps someone else would care to try this out. Recently someone posted a cmd script here to do something like that, but it only clears the whole of Content.IE5 folder (which is a subfolder).
  2. Is the theme service running? Have you applied some reg tweaks?
  3. Perhaps you can use for /f "usebackq" in do to parse the contents of a filename and run reg query.
  4. hothouse_57 was not asking this. A decoder is not needed to burn a DVD disc, AFAIK, so that's besides the point.
  5. Not AFAIK. That should work. Check that you apply the reg correctly. PS. Unless you're auto-installing a 3rd party firewall during uA, I do not recommend disabling Windows Firewall in the uA install. <EDIT> Security Center files can be found in i386, I don't know what the consequences are if they're removed from the source: wscsvc.dl_ Windows Security Center Service wscui.cp_ Security Center
  6. Setup normally also writes an entry to the boot.ini.
  7. I quite agree with InTheWayBoy. It's time to move on. Apart from the options listed above, there is another simple one - to have another NT OS as a dual boot, like a 2nd XP. I boot into the 2nd XP to maintain the first.
  8. I said: So you must have inadvertently deleted your own account from the ACE. The "big string of numbers seperated by dashes" are the SIDs of the users. In general for a shared folder (not a system folder) you only need the Administrator or an admin user or the Creator Owner to have Full Control. In my shared folder > Sharing tab, I only have Authenticated Users (which means not Everyone (without password), nor the Guest can access it). Have a look: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;810881 Folder sharing and security are part of MCP exam and if you can, have a look in the exam books and books on Win XP. I find the systematic approach a lot better than the bits of info you get on the internet. There're quite a few things to learn.
  9. It might have been possible to get around this if you do this first. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...125120121120120
  10. The desktop is not where My Docs folder is. Why would you want to move to X anyway? It's not a real drive. In the above subkey, the path to My Documents is under the value name Personal.
  11. You're not tackling the problem in the right way. Anti-virus publisher's websites usually advise getting rid of all previous SR points when there is infection as you can never be sure that they are still there somewhere. Nowadays, malware don't just hide in the registry (if that's the case it's easy because the list of startup entries are limited and well known). Quite a few of them are dlls, for example. And SR does not necessarily do daily SR points, as it depends on the period of the computer is running and how SR interval is configured.
  12. I still cannot find disk.config in English SP2 ver of ref.chm.
  13. It shouldn't be REG ADD for the ShutDown.cmd, just run the cmd there and then.
  14. See also: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;304148 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;831403
  15. XP's ntbackup will backup the whole registry in the backup System State option, and in advanced mode allows you to schedule a daily/incremental/differential backup. It can also be run as a command-line.
  16. The script in #2 would not clean the index.dat, which gets more bloated with time. I usually clean the whole IE cache offline, deleting the whole Content.IE5 folder.
  17. If your PC joins a domain, it won't use autologon as you said. So why not just cancel autologon by deleting the autologon entries in the registry after install? (The admin pw is 'encrypted' in the SAM so it's possible to do it, but this is not used by autologon.)
  18. That is the WinSock kernel-mode driver. So it could be NIC related, or related to malware. I don't know if it's related to tcpip.sys (if you've patched it). If the errors are random, it could also be RAM.
  19. This method would work as it bypasses the winnt.sif in the CD so making it "attended".
  20. Thanks Rambler. If this really works consistently it would be useful to many users , perhaps even worth a mention in the uA guide.
  21. There's something not quite right. The icon label drop shadows are applied by default in XP, so there must be a reason for not getting applied. Perhaps it conflicts with something in the uA. Only the ListviewShadow"=dword:00000001 is relevant. In my computers with drop shadows applied, the other values (ListviewWatermark and ListviewAlphaSelect) are both set to 1. They're also 1 in the VisualEffects subkey (as in the 2nd reg above).
  22. What does it say in Local User and Groups about the account? When are you applying useraccounts.cmd?
  23. Just omit the entry altogether and see. There's no valid value of 1, according to ref.chm.
  24. Nor can I. Haven't seen this before.
