  1. PROB | Missing Creative files

I had the same problem with a Dell Dimension 8300 that had the same card. The driverpacks work great, this is one of the first times that I have had any problem with them. slacler
  2. Set computer name at startup

Rob, Thanks for the update. Scripts or syntaxes needed would be much appreciated as my knowledge is limited it this area. This may be the future of unattended Windows CD's. What good is an unattended setup CD that requires you to enter settings one hour after you start it? Maybe I'm just lazy, but I think we are on to something here. Thanks, Slacker
  3. Set computer name at startup

Rob325's idea sounds like what I would like to do. The other options, don't offer much advantage to me over what I already have. My logic is... 1: Put the CD in and boot from it 2: Wait a minute or so, then put in the Computer Name 3: Go surfing (in the ocean) and forget all about what I was working on 4: Come home to a 100% configured PC Rob- Since you have seen it working, could you give me some more ideas on what to do next? Lets assume that I can somehow boot from CD and run a batch file that asks the computer name. Next thing to do is copy winnt.sif to the ramdrive and modify it by changing the computer name. What do I do now? Assuming my hard drive is not formatted, how do initiate Windows setup and point it to the modified winnt.sif file? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, Slacker
  4. Now that I have my customized Windows CD using nLite, RyanVM updates, and Bashrats driverpaks I would like to take things a step further. I use the same disk on several machines and therefore set * as the computer name in winnt.sif. It would be nice if there was some way to enter the computer name as soon as it boots from CD. Any ideas??? Slacker
  5. Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta

I like it. I find that it does a better job if you have it on your system before you get spyware. I've encountered some systems where I just gave up and reloaded when Adaware, Spybot, and MSAS were unable to clean the system. I haven't seen any problems on systems that already had it loaded in advance.
  6. auto install from 7zip archive

That hit the spot. Thanks, Slacker
  7. auto install from 7zip archive

Yes, that is what I am trying to do. What options do you use in Winrar to do that. When I tried it, it would ask me where to extract the files to. I would like to use 7zip to do this if anyone knows what options I need to use. Thanks, Slacker
  8. I am having trouble figuring out how to create a 7zip archive that automatically extracts the files to a temp directory and executes my setup.exe. Ideally this is what I want to happen... 1-Create a self extracting archive that extracts my files to a temp folder. 2-run setup.exe in that temp directory. 3-delete temp files after setup completes I assume somebody has already covered this topic but I'm getting a little frustrated trying to find it so if anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Slacker
  9. I would like to know how to replace a driver in the driver.cab file. I have an Adaptec RAID card that already has a driver in the driver.cab file but I would like to replace that with the updated driver that has the same name which is dpti20.sys. Could somebody please give me some instructions to extract driver.cab, replace the file, and then repackage driver.cab. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I am trying to turn off the "Enhance pointer precision" option which is on the Pointer Options tab in the Mouse Properties in Control Panel. I have a KVM switch that gets goofy if this option isn't disabled. It would be nice to have a script to set it automatically. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
