ordinary progressbar should be in .msstyle but the graph is something different - most likely hardcoded (just like 2k/xp/vista/7 have that green one with black background)

main question is, why would anyone sane even use new office at all ?
-
p2p will survive in form of magnet or simmiliar some torrent hosts have switched to it as apparently magnet doesn't show IP's unlike torrent or gnutella type as for cloud storage privacy, forget it, it was doomed the minute it was made up

shellbrd.dll has some parts basebrd.dll seems partial

1. DOS or any DOS app for complex things is dog sh*t, you can't compare win32 app with complex UI to some DOS app that can't do half those things and/or even efficient at that 2. all 9x systems were unstable, why ? DOS as foundation and its crappy VxD drivers ! 3. game building ? for which era ? seriously, 9x system are lightweight but can't be compared to NT ones, NT if nothing else gives stability, something that 9x sucks at hourly I hated the switch too, I used winME for years (that's right... 98/se sucks), then used win2000 (NT 5) for a while, and my 1st impression was: "I don't have to reset PC when explorer crashed ? no BSOD ? - SUPER !" I could finally use my OS without fear of BSOD crash later I didn't touch winME, this was 9 years ago later I got hardware for XP which had much better multimedia and game support, and I sticked with it up until 2011 today switch to either 2000 or XP will cost you minimal as hardware for that OS-es is nothing new yet you get far better experience and stability in long run

Video files crash Windows Explorer (and desktop)
vinifera replied to OldCodger's topic in Windows XP
its always a codec problem or an multimedia app set as default that can't even read files because it doesn't support them (WMP - yes its crap) for test, I'd uninstall any codec pack you have and then install VLC player (you say you have it), set it as default player for ALL videos reboot PC/OS and see if it still happens it would also be helpful to post event viewer error logs when that crash happens -
well either way, questions stand

I know that this service is being used by Server NT, but what about client NT ? do XP, Vista and 7 use or launch anything related to this service ? (like welcome/logon/oobe screen in XP) wiki says its IE dependant and I know that XP's welcome/logon/oobe screens are html based (dunno if NT 6 has anything like this) I see on my win7 its still there in System32

guess I missed that then

just for history sake actually version 9.8 is minimum, it was 1st to pass acid 3 it was released for VERY short period of time, internally called wingogi it was developer test version, has minimal UI (nothing fancy) - you can see it here http://timaltman.com/acid3/acid3_full.png

didn't read all, but there is easier solution to defrag files, simply those fragmented you have trouble with put into ISO (make ISO of them) 1. then either copy iso to this another disk you have and extract those files back 2. or burn the ISO on DVD, but as single file and again extract those files back to your FAT disk 3. OR extract them back from same HDD from ISO back reason I'm annoying with ISO, is because files in image file are being put in sorted order, so they are being defragmented there by default therefore when extracted (again they are sorted extracted) they become defragmented, under condition your primary hard disk is properly defragmented without small free spaces

many people write that MS did "bold move" with win8 and this touch crap but to me it looks like same scenario with vista, they try to predict what devices will be used and force people on using them but as it was, vista was mostly skipped, then years later hardware/pc's ment for vista became "normal", but vista blew its chance at least to my thinking win8 will follow same path people will mostly stay on win7 and/or xp (at least smart people ) and wait untill dust called win8 gets blown away by wind the only problem will be how stubborn MS is, will they ever learn like it was with vista-7 scenario, or will they pretend it didn't happen and go blindly forward with this crap

or none of that listed since there is no law-breaking rule for lying, they can make up whatever number just to keep stock positive if they admit they are in the loss... well we all know what happens then
-
too bad (or good), this is "hear-say" as they would say in court... and to who did they sell so many licenses? - does this number include poor countries like africa where you get legal windoze for 1$ ? did they sold 50 mil licenses to running bushman and other 10 to "the world" ?

afaik 5048 has same DWM effects, its only huge annoyance to install it properly

after playing with tools recommended, and get this crappyness the DVD's that got screwed got only 1 bad sector, rest was fine still unclear to me if it was manufacturers fault or my burner
-
that's not even being fanboy, but being retarded
-
ah nice, thank you, will try those proggies no the right image shows properties of 2 movies on harddrive that try to be burned on "empty" DVD they are both 3.12 GB, so they are smaller than "empty" DVD shown which MS's burner asks then for additional 1 GB for whoever knows why
-
I seriously don't know what title is correct but problem is this my Samsung DVD RW screwed few DVD's at the start with "lead in" it blocked and nothing happens after I force killed burning app, and ejected disc's, no visible changes were to bottom regarding recording, then when inserted in DVD RW back again OS and app burner see them as empty disc even rclick properties show "4.7 GB free of 4.7 GB" (yes I know its unreal size - all winos show this hhhh) BUT, re-using them always fail and when using windows inbuilt burner (yes I never used it too hahaha - I hate MS half baked products) this shows taking as possibility something was written - altho I doubt it SO I need some sort of program that can diagnose or read or show, what the hell is on those failed discs - if possible or if they exist ?
-
yes, but big plus is that you can control sound per application and not just global
-
sndvol is present on my 7 pro dunno what was so better with *32 they are both mixers... beside sound graphic manufacturer driver gives so much than windows standard crap so why use it
-
it doesn't matter to be honest by "vista" standard user needed DX 9 for blur (shader 2) if you're worried about DX version being used, I don't think there's any disadvantage of 10 being used over 11 for window draw
-
well he/she could download vmware player, and install win 8 init, if wants to see what "it" is much painless
