  1. is there a way to see when (date) was certain rule (app blocked or allowed) ? I don't see in fw settings anything that shows it
  2. actually the "3D windows" was more than necessary move XP has GDI object limitation imposed, for example I had problem when used a theme(skin) and opened 10 apps OS would refuse to work, no new window would open nor draw, task manager would refuse to run no explorer window would open I'd be greeted by beep-error sound this was common problem and the only solution was vista's desktop composition engine (desktop window manager/DWM) with that user has no such limitation problems at all
  3. you're too paranoid yes devs will make apps for win8, win7 won't be abandoned for a long time the worst that can happen is that devs start massive making metro apps, which are actually very much crippled comparing to desktop/win32 which in other words again backfires to how win8 sucks and even if SP2 for win7 don't come out, hotfixes will hell win7 is proven to be next best OS after XP so why would they shoot themself in legg over tablet OS pfff
  4. then cry to microsoft for NOT ADDING THEM its NOTHING new that other dev's are re-adding, porting or adding features to Windows OS that "should" be there
  5. actually its roots go back as year 2003 so its more like 9 years old by time winblows 8 sits in homes, it will be 10 years
  6. except there s the human (consumer) factor where people if hate X product simply dump it hence why XP is still used in both private and state companies to-day
  7. I switched from 2000 to XP SP1 it was smooth enough for me then (1.3 ghz, 384 mb ram) loved the os and been using it for 5 years with SP3 it was even better would've stayed on it if my hardware didn't require win "7"
  8. sorry but I disagree XP SP0, SP1 and 2 are gone from any support Vista SP 0 and 1 same by support I mean hotfixes and telphone help/support
  9. both web based UI both suck
  10. problem is with their policy SP should be just hotfix container, but they enforced on themselves to treat it as new product thus extend support
  11. only newbies would fall for that metro is only IE full screen UI in other words its disaster waiting to happen (ask yourself why Windows Neptune failed miserably)
  12. actually they did both just not exactly so by metro taskbar i guess you would imagine thumbnails or pictures (of sort) and not icons this was done in pre-alpha versions of windows 7, even before they did "superbar" the giant icons were thumbnails in some prototypes as for metro desktop to be active desktop of sort, not exactly so but they did have phodeo built into explorer in vista alphas which basically made moving file objects (icons/thumbs) (yes in 3D) while (in build 4066) you had aurora animation moving in background MS had many great ideas in past, even that date back to pre-NT 4 but at the end they are enterprises company and not home-user oriented (this is where apple wins)
  13. another warning that id*** kid brags about cracking beta1
  14. I'd be dead before I let any provider store my data
  15. I can give you start orb from win7 alpha build 6801 which is different from both RTM and RC
  16. I personally consider win "7" to be tweaked vista with better file manager (UI wise) and taskbar nothing more but since it is newer, and more polished (yes I think vista was rushed), I chosen to use win "7"
  17. you can install these packs but atleast for your own safety be sure its from verified source, for example from deviantart where people commented on it usually when explorer or ieframe is patched, they make it so you have info panel in explorer below address bar (as Longhorn had) and not at the bottom (as vista/7 have) also by patching explorer they are changing start button icon which isn't in .msstyle
  18. its only unsafe if you install "packs" which include modified dll's (ieframe etc...) and explorer.exe (longhorn themes often have this) but .msstyle itself is harmless also you don't have to patch uxtheme, you can use (not advertising) rafael riviera's uxstyle (which is service running and in-memory patcher - thus theoretically not illegal )
  19. we don't care what you are there again we don't care doing something onto either a project or creation of another without original author's permition is disgusting
  20. you can see on picture that time is freezed
  21. unfortunately user from BetaArchive called Pwned cracked Startisback and distributes it on his own
  22. finally a metro killer
  23. believe it or not, I didn't have time kinda rush last 2 weeks and I always planned to do it I'll report back when I do
  24. you missed quite alot

    Windows 8

@rant of start screen the concept behind start screen is good bud terrible executed (like all MS ideas ) screens are big and long these days and could remove need of start menu but only if you could have either tabbed (or "modern" buttoned) sections instead subfolders that menu has and you'd simply have icons with names below nicely named and sorted just like in folder there's no need for useless scrolling or intrusive full screen crap this don't take rocket scientist to make but they fail at any UX design and make it crap I still fail to see how they can say they spend hundreds thousands of $ on user testing and experience when in final product they always serve garbage
