  1. I you are sure it´s not your CDs, then look at the hardware. A bad: - CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD-ROM/DVD-RW drive or; - Memory; - Hard disk; - Motherboard Would be most common. Still strange that it only hits that file every time with different CDs...
  2. Speechless... But still going to say the same: Unless I´m not mistaken, there are no commercial dual AGP boards for sale.
  3. Hi there, What size of graphics are you talking about? I do some 1 by 2.2 meter 300dpi printout designs with a few layers myself, that hog up more than 2GB, so how about you?
  4. puntoMX

    What

Cool, this should be a sticky in the Windows 98 section!
  5. Check if you run dual channel with your RAM, which will boost it to 3 WITH the latest Intel driver. If you use it with single channel RAM it will give you a 2.5 score in vista and with the stock vista driver 2.0.
  6. Better forget about it, you will have to go with two PCI cards instead... EDIT: 2 ATI 9250 cards would be cheap and works well, also are passively cooled.
  7. What Windows version are we talking about?
  8. I double checked it; they should be releasing the ICH10 Southbridge soon in combination with any of the 3 north bridges you spoke of.
  9. *taken from the compTIA site. Any way, it´s not only software, I would like to repeat that you need the hardware to run it to, don´t think that a build for 98/ME machine can run Vista... I personally don´t give much for the looks and Vista Bar myself, but the 64bit version of Vista does the job faster than every other OS Microsoft ever made...
  10. Sorry, I got interrupted in the office, so I’ll continue… But you need permission first... To write How-To´s would be the best way, hacked and recoded stuff will not do indeed... Ahem... I would revise that if I was you, as you stated it here you say that unsupported software can be modified? And by the way, IF we can work this out together then there is no need to move from MSFN.org. I would like to remind you that the staff isn´t against the activity here, but needs to protect the people and thus the forum with it. I can´t repeat my self enough times...
  11. As long if you can download the packs you made from Microsoft it would be legal, however, Microsoft would never let you do that so it´s against the Microsoft EULA... I think you see the problem there...
  12. Linux text based? The man already said it... But to get DDR3 to get a stable system... and just 2x 1GB. I would look further and get a stable combo of RAM and motherboard and put in some 4GB RAM and good timings at a normal 1.8 working voltage.I thought that the P45/ICH10 was going to use DDR2, but even that chipset will natively support DDR3. As a side note, I didn´t play much with DDR3 as its 5! to 6! times the price of DDR2 here in Mexico *sigh*...
  13. The illegal part is what we try to keep out of the forums, I think you agree that the "plans" that were made were not quite kosher, and a hair away from illegality. I would only swing the ban-hammer if it was really needed, AIO released for download would be a direct ban, also it depends on how you react and how many posts you have (think about 10 to 100, 100 to 2000 doesn’t make a difference to me.) If you don´t know if it´s on the edge or not of legal/illegal then PM me with your questions. I’m here also to help you guys out by following this topic from the beginning as I kind of provoked this topic to be made... It´s the part that you have no right to use without "owning" a license, you don´t own the code when you buy a product license. IPv6 will be implemented if you like it or not, Internet2 is still a question... Thank you Tihiy for your words .
  14. And then you say "7. also if possible to be legal.", but it´s not legal. This is not to kick you in the balls, but M$ will take it down...
  15. cluberti, AMEN man! I can´t add more to that other than people that don´t know how to build a PC that will work flawless with Vista and users that don´t know how to read AND understand what is writhen. Hell, even on "not supported" Intel 845 chipsets it runs flawless with 640MB (Home basic if you have only the onboard VGA). Sure it gives a 1.0 performance rating for gaming . Who´s next?
  16. Well, when you update your BIOS, you are updating the GPU part too (if there are any changes, most of the time it´s only CPU IDs). Just go to the manufacturer website and check the support pages. if you can´t find it then give us the model number that is written on the back of your laptop.
  17. DinsTheTechDigger, Are you going to run Virtual machines of any kind? Then go with AMD like the Phenom 9550. There are more reasons to go with AMD, like the graphics performance in Vista with ATI/AMD chipsets (less RAID, Intel is better in that). To stay in your budget, take a look at the ACER 20" screens. It could be that you need to spend 45k, but it will be worth it.
  18. Same here, no issues of what so ever, even my old games work fine on x64 and that on a cheaper setup then nitroshift has. Specs would help indeed; sound more like instable hardware then software...
  19. Why don’t you make a shortcut and place it there?
  20. I know it´s 133MHz each module, but check out what´s on the labels, some would say for example C2 or C3, or CAS 2 or CAS 3. When you have 2 modules with C2 and 1 with C3, then place the C3 module in "bank" 1 and the C2 modules in "bank" 2 and 3. I´m sure memtest will fail...
  21. OUCH! Good one, had to laugh .
  22. When you enter the BIOS, there should be something like advanced settings or chipset settings, if not, then place the slowest module first, also try to lower the RAM speed from 133 to 100MHz and see if that helps.
  23. Correct, creative is a dead end for now when it comes to Vista. Besides that, creative is attacking everybody (example) that makes modified drivers to push their new, "specially made for Vista", sound cards...
  24. If it boots up with the right amount of RAM, then the single/double sided issue and chip count would not be the problem in most cases.I would set the timings for the RAM, in the BIOS, at the slowest setting. In this case at CAS/RAS/C2R on 3 and see what happens.
