  1. The biggest difference between the 2xxx and the 7xxx series is the die-shrink from 65 to 45nm, SSE 4.1, 1 vs. 3MB cache, new core design thus optimized, lower power consumption, higher speed and some more minor points. With the stock cooler you can go as high as 3.0GHz without letting it break out in sweat. But, since you are a budget OCer I would get a better cooler and there are some nice ones around 30USD to get close to 4GHz on the E7200. For the price I would get 2x 2GB 800/1066 1.8v, the same type and in dual channel mode. Your last statements are untrue, although they don´t make a big difference but they do have influence on stability and performance. Your OS will not “see” the complete 4GB but the price of 3x 1GB and loosing 128bit bus (it will be 64bit now) would make no sense in my eyes…
  2. If you want your CPU run at max speed, turn of EIST and other features in your BIOS. Just remember that if your CPU is under full load, it will run at the speed it is rated for .Other than that, it´s completely normal what you are getting…
  3. It´s not related to your monitor but to the configuration of your PC. About what OS are we talking about and did you use the latest drivers? Did it work before? Indeed, and the power setting of your video card.Looks like the VGA card doesn´t power up as it "knew" that the screen was powered off...
  4. Welcome to the forum Walter o'dim. Now, let’s see what components you picked, not bad but it always can be better for the price . The motherboard with the P31 is a bit outdated, especially with the Intel ICH7 South Bridge, besides that it only has 2 memory slots. With a few bucks more you have the GA-EP35-DS3L with all solid capacitors, 4 memory sloths and the well performing P35/ICH9 chipset. This is not the newest chipset but it performs well and has a good price. Price 85USD before tax. Then there is the new P43 based GA-EP43-DS3L, it´s basically the same setup as the GA-EP35-DS3L but with better chipset cooling, 6 SATA ports and the new P43/ICH10 chipset witch does support PCI-E 2.0. Price 95USD before tax. The CPU and RAM are a good pick, but go for the OEM version of the Q6600 CPU, saving you 15USD that you can spend on a good aftermarket cooler. That VGA card isn´t a good pick; You will end up having 512MB at just 1180MHz while the normal speed for a 256MB version is about 1400MHz; the size will not make up to the speed. Check out the newer cards like the GV-RX387512H Radeon HD 3870, way more speed especially in Vista. The HD4850 would be the sweet pick, but there is one question you have to answer: What are you planning to do with this system?
  5. There you have a good point with laptops; Always go for a 6 to 12 cell battery, most of the time each cell count can provide 15 minutes of normal computer use. Besides that, make sure you get enough RAM with the computer but as far I can see that looks right with 3GB; it will swap less to the harddisk thus using less power. Remember that RAM always uses less power than a Harddisk as a harddisk is just storage medium...
  6. Yes, it´s normal for those cards, mostly due to low number of shaders and the 128bit memory bus.If you are looking for a new video card, then take a look at the AMD Radeon HD4850, it´s the best pick at the moment with his sharp price of less than 200USD. It outperforms most single cards except for it´s bigger brother, just higher clocked, HD4870.
  7. Indeed, besides that take a look at what isn´t needed: C:\Program Files\Common Files\iS3\Anti-Spyware\SZServer.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec_Client_Security\Symantec AntiVirus\DefWatch.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\Evidence Eliminator\ee.exe C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSub.exe C:\WINDOWS\webshots.scr C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://my.netzero.net/s/sp?r=al&cf=s.....;N=PLHS&O=I O2 - BHO: (no name) - {13B42F27-D7AB-48D2-B60B-DAF796DEAD28} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbXOFUoL.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {33DA9E3C-935E-4EC2-977D-AFE3A3B5E727} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qoMeEUOh.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: {88a2b195-7f4f-5808-ee84-9993f2fb6587} - {7856bf2f-3999-48ee-8085-f4f7591b2a88} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jxwbmp.dll (file missing) O2 - BHO: QXK Olive - {923C5BC4-222D-4765-8B05-1DA745853776} - C:\WINDOWS\wbxdpgfekal.dll (file missing) O3 - Toolbar: sqvgnrpx - {6A25115D-10F0-4897-9866-A8350EEEB16A} - C:\WINDOWS\sqvgnrpx.dll (file missing) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZoneAlarm Client] "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [20ddfb3d] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\tejvfwey.dll",b O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WMPNSCFG] C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\WMPNSCFG.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Evidence Eliminator] C:\Program Files\Evidence Eliminator\ee.exe /m O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe O4 - S-1-5-21-2822928581-3459612616-898833586-1016 Startup: spamsubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSub.exe (User 'Admin') O4 - S-1-5-21-2822928581-3459612616-898833586-1016 Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe (User 'Admin') O4 - S-1-5-21-2822928581-3459612616-898833586-1016 User Startup: spamsubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSub.exe (User 'Admin') O4 - S-1-5-21-2822928581-3459612616-898833586-1016 User Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe (User 'Admin') O4 - .DEFAULT User Startup: spamsubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSub.exe (User 'Default user') O4 - .DEFAULT User Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe (User 'Default user') O4 - Startup: spamsubtract.lnk = C:\Program Files\interMute\SpamSubtract\SpamSub.exe O4 - Startup: Webshots.lnk = C:\Program Files\Webshots\Launcher.exe O4 - Global Startup: Belkin Wireless Utility.lnk = ? Try to de-install them. I would backup your system and reinstall it again, this time without the HP software that came with the PC (laptop?), just use the drivers and the small programs for the extra buttons on the keyboard. Never install all those "toolbars"...
  8. No issues here so far, it must be the AHCI BIOS version of the P5E3 board in combination with that drive, check out this topic too. You´re welcome, and again welcome to be on the board .
  9. I hope she isn´t accounting serious on a machine with access to internet, that would be a time bomb as people never backup their stuff, even if you tell them too. Make sure there is some automated backup that scans for malware before backing up. Uberskin and XP Icon Raider are really a waste of space, time and speed, leave those things of if it´s a work-machine and not a toybox like my windows Vista based system . The Duron 1300MHz was one of the hottest chips ever made in the socket 462 line, only the 1400MHz Athlon could beat it .
  10. No it´s not, and it´s well stated in the "MSFN law" too: -CLOSED!-
  11. Samsung SH-S223F: tested on ICH9 IDE mode: works (boot/read/write) AHCI mode: works (boot/read/write) RAID mode: N/A Thank you for updating jcarle.
  12. I would take a look at the build in "Outlook express" in Windows XP and "Live Mail" in Windows Vista. You can use multiple email account in just one email client. I do it myself for hotmail and 2 other accounts too and can access my hotmail account without any problems while the webmail (hotmail.com page) gives problems indeed.
  13. We are working on it .
  14. A 8400GS works for Crysis too on "low" settings on 1024*768. You will need 1GB of RAM and a Celeron 420 too...
  15. What email client are you using? Welcome to the forum by the way .
  16. Ouch... yeah, a USB 2.0 add-on card, mostly supplied with a VIA VT6212L chip, would be the way to go (others said this already, but we tried to see if there could be other options first without spoiling some cash .)
  17. Wow, looks like some fast express service here! Couldn´t do it better my self. You want like to ad a TV tuner card too...
  18. Well, how do you know the HDD starts to read too? If it´s the LED on front of your PC that shows activity that could also indicate to the optical drive. By the way, I would always set an optical drive on its own cable and not on the HDD cable if they are both PATA/IDE.
  19. Use the Teflon series and you will have the best ones I can think off but I can´t find them on there site.
  20. Since it´s detecting the device, does the name show up under the device list? It looks more that the drive is NOT partitioned and needs to be made active BEFORE usage. Are there any services disabled in that OS? What chipset are we talking about? All USB ports provide 5 volt. It will see the drive but will give a message like "This device could operate faster".USB 1.0 was never integrated on motherboards, Version 1.1 and up were...
  21. No they are not, but they are trashed. Trashed topics/post can´t be seen.
  22. Just to save 30CAD? o.ORemember that those smaller drivers are slower so I would keep it as it is, with that 640GB drive .
  23. Note: This case has a 8cm fan that blows from the right side (seen from front) over the harddisks.
  24. Optional? That case comes with 2 12cm fans stock and some useless side fans, well, they don´t do much to cooling. Why don´t you check out an Antec 900 for example?
