What power supply are you using? The red spots point to the memory so or the power isn´t enough or your memory is bad on that video card, that´s what I would check out first.

Hardware and software required to transfer VHS to DVD
puntoMX replied to Bad boy Warrior's topic in Hardware Hangout
The analog video capture card has hardware MPEG-2 onboard so even on a P3 500MHz it will work flawless. First you capture, and then you edit, no need in real time . Nice link by the way, very helpful.Bad boy Warrior, I would look at products too from Pinnacle, most are external USB capture cards and come with a not to bad edit capture program, and like crahak pointed out, there are nice "filter/capture programs" that will give you a smoother image. -
Can someone explain this to me? (Personal Education)
puntoMX replied to adrian2055's topic in Hardware Hangout
Well, the onboard video is way better on the laptop. The CPU in your laptop for sure outperforms the ageing P4, so I´m not surprised there. I can´t say much about the hard disk drives but even there I would be not surprised if the 80GB 2.5" drives runs circles around the 160GB 3.5" drive. I would throw in another GB in that laptop, it´s worth every penny... -

Well, those drives aren´t that bad, they might not be the fastest but they are not much behind on the WD 640GB drives either, plus they are reliable.EDIT: Access time shows high indeed, 18.7ms, burst 124.8MB/s, and AVG 78.5MB/s... this is on HD Tune but there should be better programs, any tips? -
Okay, so what do you really want?; A complete under build report of each component used on every computer part? That I can´t give you that but when I say 3 to 4 years than I´m talking about "general" life of a computer under "normal" use, without the screen and input devices. In accountancy the value is set to 0 (zero) in 3 years so, not only to be "obsolete" but also because of the MTBF AND CTO.The numbers 3 to 4 years are taken from my own experience, as this is my profession for more than 12 years now, and my hobby for 15 years before that. Remember that there are chemicals used that EVEN degrade when using or not using the equipment, and yes, some fail even out of there package... And there are more points...

Well, they are just not made to work that long, nor are other brands. Remember that a computer-life is about 3 to 4 years, sure it still works after that but there is no warrantee it will work well...

Well, you can split it up easily, just take the DDR2 and DDR3 boards and put them in their proper group. Anything lower than an i7 based mobo has no need for DDR3 so you can leave that part out.The Ultra Durable 3 boards from Gigabyte is where I would look at, so the GA-EP45-UD3P, GA-EP45-UD3R and GA-EP45-UD3 . -
There is nothing you can do, however, check the capacitors on the board; if they are faulty you could try to replace them.
-
Well, if you tried the RAM and it had no effect, than your motherboard is dead enough; It would not see the RAM any more. I´m not surprised as it´s already a 9 year old system. You are right, just don´t finish him off .

I have good experience with IOgear too. The model you posted I don´t know but the analog VGA version I do, I must say it works as it should be. The downside are the not to well shielded cables but if you keep them always from the power cables then all should be fine. Just beware: , it´s not 2.0, and you can see that most people looked over that spec and complained about it later (dumb asses , but 90% of the reviewers are at newegg).

The 12V line looks realy short, is there no way to give it some play?Nice setup John, did you OC that X2 monster too? -
No, it´s not that, it´s the: "How do I get things back, HHHEEEELLLPPP!!!" topics... Just reinstall with the original disk .

They don´t look that bad in the picture, are you talking about the gumm like glue that´s on them¿
-
I hope you go for something better this time, something that doesn´t have bad capacitors and a fan that lives a bit longer. The name Ultra says it all, it´s "ultra" cheap and there for "ultra" dangerous to use (if you like “ultra” dangerous I would go for it, makes life less boring), you should be glad that the PSU didn´t take out your motherboard and other devices .

Seagate got a new firmware for their 1.5GB drives, just go to their support pages .

I´ll put my money on the motherboard; a defective CPU is less likely but could be the problem too.

puntoMX replied to srk999's topic in Hardware Hangout
You don´t need any jumpers on that one unless your motherboard has an older chipset that is only SATA 1.5Gb/s then you would be better of placing the PHY jumper. What chipset are you using any way? -

He´s talking about the video RAM. Either way, your card is bad, RMA it . Overclocking has it´s price some times... -

puntoMX replied to Messerschmitt's topic in Hardware Hangout
I would think that the card is overheating/bad timings and if it´s still in warranty I would send it back ASAP; before you do so test the card in another system first to be sure it´s defective.
