  1. Just to put that better:The 945G series supports officially 667MHz of RAM and a 800MT/s bus. Since Dell isn´t using high-end components and just basic motherboards it´s unlikely you can do anything more than the basic specs. Remember that out of specs RAM (voltage over 1.80-1.85) needs a motherboard that can give a bit more power to the chipset as well else it will drop the timing of the RAM but rise the timing of the chipset.
  2. Sure .
  3. 38.06706% - Major Geek humm...
  4. Just set it to IDE in the BIOS and all should be back to where it was (besides some REG entries and files that will not be used but are present on the hard disk ). It´s the same, but some 32bit drivers would not work 100% on a 64bit system...
  5. You can force it the non official way but it won´t work smooth.that system is totally NOT made for Vista so IMHO the BIOS will not support Vista 100% and there you have your problem, a part of the BIOS is the VGA BIOS so even if you would install the latest drivers it´s hard to get it work like you want (but you already noticed that ).
  6. Only to most states in North America less Mexico...
  7. Strangely, I have had problems* with 6GB on that motherboard and Vista 64bit. With 8GB it works perfectly and 4GB too, so you could be ending up selling your 2x 1GB.* An example was the card reader that would not read anything from the flashcards.
  8. No, you will be spending 160AUD on something that was outdated and not worth upgrading 3 years ago. It´s time to look for a complete new computer.
  9. Who´s xper? Happy Birthday for the king !!
  10. I use the same DVD-RW drive here and on the 780G chipset before, no problems here with slow transfer speeds. I must say that I don´t use the cable that came with it nor do I use the ports at the front of the case as some cases still use poor wiring that only qualifies as “good enough” for USB 1.1.
  11. Cheap and it runs well: HD4350 .
  12. It´s the Acer Aspire One indeed. The older version had 512MB and 8GB, I´m installing Windows vista Starter on them (not sold in every country).
  13. What I wrote was not a typo , it’s a E5200 and not a E4700. I can tell you that you will not "feel" any difference between them and since you are not willing to spend more cash on the system you would be better of keeping the difference in price in your pocket or get a better VGA card that serves you in the future. Remember that more and more applications (not the ones you use now, but who knows in 2 years?) will start to use the GPU to take some tasks over from the CPU (FPU). +1 for Samsung . SATA and 22x, not needed but a plus.
  14. ATI cards are better in many ways over nVidia cards, especialy with blueray, HDMI and Vista. Did you check out their HD4670? I know they are not 100UAD but those 30UAD are worth it. About the motherboard: forget the ageing G31 chipset and get something you can build on; a P43 based motherboard would be an excellent pick at this moment. You might spend a bit more, but in a year from now you would know why . If you like to get down in price, check out Transcend and ADATA/VDATA RAM, they perform as good OR most likely better than Kingston... And if you get even more picky on the coins than why not go for the E5200, same specs as the E7200, just less cache and lower FSB (Good OCer by the way).
  15. Why is it that you don´t border to look at those brands?
  16. Well, get another PSU, this is never going to work with a rated 11A on the 12V line. Look for something that can at least do some 19A and up, better 24A and up.
  17. Before you start hacking into the card: - Did you try another PSU, what is the model you are using now? - What kind of motherboard are you using? - Did you try the card in another system? - Is this a clean Windows install?
  18. You´re welcome, but this puzzles me a bit too. I do repair laptops but never seen this behavior before. I would check: - The Memory with MEMtest, - Take out the battery and see if it helps, - Look if the ventilator is spinning up when pushing the start button, - Reseat the RAM, - BIOS reset/restore defaults, - Use a life-CD/DVD, Linux based so it´s legal and for free, - Backup the important data and reinstall Vista. That´s all you can do, flashing the BIOS isn´t an option in my eyes and if nothing helps than I have to point to the motherboard itself or the HDD and DVD-RW drive.
  19. At least SHE kept the same crap at the same place... I wonder how she looked like...
  20. What happens if you leave the DVD-WR drive open? This seems more a hardware problem than a software problem.
  21. Err, no you are not, leave EIST on, so leave it as it is or your battery will work half the time .When the CPU load goes up, your CPU speed goes up too! I would use Vista on that laptop, and I think it already came with it shipped. EDIT: XP SP3, I thought it was a "core2" but it´s a "core", so 32bit only OS.
  22. MemSet is a bit too advanced to start with, sure it´s easy to use but you can mess your system really up with that and the RAM is the last thing to tweak any way, start with the CPU .
  23. I don´t think so! We are not a wares site... ahum...
  24. yeah, I have zero of them at home too .
  25. You could try but I can tell you that for 99% I´m sure it will be unstable or not even start/boot up. Stick with 1.8V DDR2 DIMMs .
