The contact strip on top of the screen has come loose and the is no way you can glue that. Over time it will get worse; they just used bad glue. You have to replace the screen completely sadly enough.

Just another thing: Try to install the drivers in safemode. You can curse Vista for it, but that laptop seems to be designed for XP. And there is always the computer manufacturer in between .

That's no bad gain indeed, but can't you set your PCI/PCI-E speed to 33/100MHz in the BIOS?
-
Indeed, as they don't use "In-house" technology and Intel isn't going to give theirs.2009 Still isn't the year for SSD .

Where can I find out what chipset I have exactly?
puntoMX replied to anthonyaudi's topic in Hardware Hangout
OCZ PC2-5400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-667 CL5-5-5-15 200PIN SODIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit For example, kingston has 4-4-4-12 RAM as well, but the BIOS might not use it with those timings. When you were a kid? My name does remind me of something? I hope it was something good . -

First of all, the guy at that computer shop is a novice, the laptop takes for sure memory from any other brand rather than Kingston. Now, you will not get more out of faster RAM, keep it with basic timings (5-5-5-15 if posible), but what you should do is maxing out the memory. Even dual channel will not give you much of a performance boost although onboard GPUs will benefit a lot from it, but that's not your nVidia card. -
I would try a few things: - Update the BIOS - Disable everything in Power Management in the properties tab of the NIC - manually install the latest chipset drivers - Set BIOS power functions to S3 or if it was already on S3 you could try S1 As you can see, I give it a little chance that it might be a driver problem...

Darn good album.I'm listening to the new album of The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die.

I use mostly winRAR to unpack a file and burn it after that, but I don't know if it can open an UDF image. Besides that, it works on Windows 7 .

Upgrading the CPU would not do much. I don't know if the notebook came with 1x 256MB DIMM, if so, you could try another 256MB to get 512MB but that's about what you can do with that notebook. It uses PC100 modules and I would get them from eBay or so.

It's always better to use the new drivers directly from ATI, most companies mess around too much with the drivers or use outdated versions.
-
g-force, you are right, moved it .

Ow yes, I forgot to say that the HD49xx cards are on their way to the shops , more performance, same price.

Hi novice tinkerer, welcome to the forums. You don't need a driver for your SATA Hard disk however, you need one for your VIA chipset to tell windows setup how to use the SATA controller. Without the disk Setup will not "see" the Hard disk at all. This is by the way no hardware fault so I'm moving this topic to the XP section, you will get more replies on this topic over there...

I would change some parts: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...acture=Gigabyte http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...acture=SAPPHIRE The ASUS S1366 mobo is nice but the SAS part isn't needed plus the Gigabyte "Ultra Durable 3" series do perform as one of the best OCers and stable board out there. The Sapphire card uses the short PCB design, about 3cm, making the card bend less in the PCI-E sloth and placing the voltage regulators to the back of the case (personal preference I must say) seems to stay cooler. Other than that, nice list except or the LG DVD-RW...

Looks like a Memory problem to me. Disconnect the power cable from the wall-outlet and put the "start button" for a few second. Take out the RAM and reseat the RAM again, check before you put it back in if the contacts are not dirty and use a pensile eraser to clean the memory contacts. Put back the power cable and turn the PC on again and see if that helped. If it didn't help than replace the memory but don't forget to do it like I told you above. if replacing the memory doesn't help than replace the motherboard. let's see if we can fix this baby .

You should get this option in your BIOS: Go to "Advanced" and then to "JumperFree Configuration" and set it to "Manual". You should now be able to set the "CPU Frequency" and "DRAM Frequency" Just set it to 800MHz but beware that some 965 chipsets don't like the 800MHz setting on the RAM.

No you are not, but the PC you bought is for basic stuff like Office applications and the Internet. You bought a small family car and now you want to throw in a turbocharged intercooled 6-cyl. 166kW diesel, that's just no go. I would sell it as it is and build a new one, yes build as you will find nothing good for a nice price that can pull computer games, but those are just my 0.02.

FireGL V3100 has dual monitor support, can I add a 3rd LCD
puntoMX replied to ceez's topic in Hardware Hangout
No, not a Matrox card, it's indeed the box that splits the signal over the 3 screens, so, your video card will see he box as a monitor itself, the box just splits it onto 3 monitors after that. -

Yes there is, Matrox has it's Tripplehead2Go in a VGA and DVI version. I think that Tain (super moderator) still uses the VGA one. -
For sure, and don't forget the airflow that is needed to cool a video card. Low profile cards are more expensive and are mostly low budged, even in the professional line 64bit memory bus video cards (nVidia Quadro/ ATI GL) which are not good at all for gaming.
